Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

So... I've just read the spoiler of the movie.
Spoiler
Show
So much for "Never visiting Megaroad-1". Lady M is literary trapped inside Megaroad-1 and still somehow finds a way to command Xaos. I don't know wether to applaud to critize Kawamori for keeping up the charade for this long.

Things that makes a mech looks "cheap" or "industrial"

Too bad that I know nothing about design or design language. I've been wondering for the longest time what can makes a mech looks "cheap" or "industrials". Like, I always find mechs if they appear in steampunk works are painted in jet black or a shade of grey that are reminiscing of the steam trains...

Decals/painting on mecha

I have just having a talk with an old friend now living in Russia, and we talked about cars in Moscow that had all these wild-looking images hand-painted on their bodies. That makes me wonder if there are that many mecha that have unique paintings or decals. I mean, in animated shows you do not alwa...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Going on the left field, have anyone played a PS1 game called Space Griffon VF-9? The titular mech though does not transform look suspiciously like the VF-11 and other Valkyries. I haven't looked into who did mechanical design for the series, but I wouldn't be surprise if there is an interview which...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

I hope the next movie better give a good explanation where did Xaos get all the expensive components to make their YF-29. Anyway, I've discussed about sci-fi stuffs in the West that lifted designs from Kawamori and other Japanese mechanical designers, but never talk about Transformer. Is it true tha...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

How cheap is the Nemo actually? Because I wonder if it's so cheap, then why the GM III became the EFF's main fighting force during the First Neo Zeon War? It's very likely that the GM III is even cheaper than the Nemo, but I think there is also one factor (that also applied to the Rick Dias) that we...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

What are the chance of Max actually turning himself into a cyborg... nah, I don't think it will be the case.

That said, we haven't got a good look at the YF-29 Max pilots, right? I wonder if it belonged to NUNS or Xaos?

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Max is confirmed in the movie and is using a custom YF-29. Please don't tell me that they put the old man in a Valkyrie?! Also, here is the poster for the Evil!Walkure: https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/4787143 I can't help but to think they were made for Uta Macross because, you know, there are ton...

Re: Why the Guntank's tracks look like that?

Looking at the E.F.S.F.'s attitude toward the "big gun" theory of naval warfare between 0080 and 0083, I honestly think that the Guntank II was some kind of gesture toward pleasing the "old guards" within the E.F.G.S. Basically after OYW, a lot of people would've had said': "Hey, our tanks will be o...

Why the Guntank's tracks look like that?

Has it been discussed anywhere else why the Guntank and the Guntank Ground Assault Type have their tracks designed that way (raised tracks and elevated sprockets) instead of the Type 61 and Guntank II's parallel-looking tracks? I know that some old tanks have tracks look like that, but I have no ide...

Your favorite "frankenstein" machines?

I always like when some kind of "improvised" machinery shows up in any show, something that is pressed into a role that it was definitely not meant for. Examples included the AT-TE that the three runaway Clone Troopers lived in, or the cars in Twisted Metals. And even if they are explicitly designed...

Re: Where did the "big thighs, small lower legs, no foot" design come from?

If we are talking about Junya Ishigaki, then we'll have to talk about the Xenogears, which he designed alongside other Gears from that game. From this interview (https://xenogearsxenosagastudyguide.blogspot.com/p/interview-with-xenogears-staff-1998.html), it seems like SquareSoft staffers had alread...

Re: Where did the "big thighs, small lower legs, no foot" design come from?

Probably the 80s with Mamoru Nagano in Five Star Stories. The design of several of the Motar Headd's evokes this and it fits really well with Nagano's design style. As for when it became more popular elsewhere , that is kind of hard to say. You can see this design in some of the Seinen Mech OVA's o...

Where did the "big thighs, small lower legs, no foot" design come from?

While watching the Mack Knife in the latest G-Reco movie, I suddenly want to find out which mecha is the first one to have the "big thighs, small lower legs, no foot" design? You know, like the Jehuty and Hazen-thley II. I always find it has something feminine about it, you know, with the long legs,...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Has it mentioned anywhere how the gunpods are reloaded? I heard that for real life gunpods you usually have to use some kind of device to reload them; and, I imagine the helical magazine of something like the GU-11 would not make things easier.

Re: Buying anything without a microchip?

It'd have to be quite an old car... computerized engine controls entered common use in the mid-1970s, and multiplex computer networks for automotive use were introduced in 1991. Here in Vietnam you could still buy old models of UAZ trucks and minibuses that actually were produced less than 10 years...

No, that's not common... he's just mentally ill. That whole schtick about microchips is a classic paranoid anti-government conspiracy theory. It usually links into a belief in related, deeply antisemitic, conspiracy theories about a "New World Order" run by any of several alleged, and fictitious, s...

Buying anything without a microchip?

I personally know a guy who tries to buy as many stuffs without any microchip as possible because he is afraid of being eavesdropped or messed with. It translates to he uses a lot of refurbished stuffs originally made by the Soviets. Is this kind of guy common in the US? He is not a survivalist guy,...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Say, after the VF-4, how many years does a VF model usually serve in the NUNS before it is replaced? I suddenly have the thought there is pretty much no reason for any big budget VF project by the time of Delta. I mean, the whole spectrum of cost-to-performance has been filled by then. If you want s...

Re: The first recognizable "chicken leg" mecha

No, Syd Mead's designs do not have chicken legs, and the inspired AT-AT also isn't chicken legs. The one with chicken legs is AT-ST. Sorry, my bad. The Giant Claw , which is gloriously bad. This maybe it. Thanks! BTW, talking about cheap knock offs, Tokyo Marui(Now famous for its airsoft products) ...
