Re: How advanced should technology be to built spaceships as spacious as in fictions

We've made decent strides towards things like 3D-printed foods, a first step towards a Star Trek -style protein synthesizer. Instead of having to carry animals or frozen meat rations, they could build steaks and other meat with cell cultures and 3D printing technology. I'd expect they'd have aeropo...

Re: How advanced should technology be to built spaceships as spacious as in fictions

So, what about food. I personally am used to monotonous meals, but it would still be a hit to morale. So I guess beside dehydration rations, we will need cloning and artificial cultivation?

Re: How advanced should technology be to built spaceships as spacious as in fictions

Recent experiments verifying the existence of gravity waves have promising implications for the creation of a warp drive similar to what is seen in Star Trek . We just need to come up with a way to create negative mass. The ability to create negative mass would allow for high-velocity sublight driv...

Re: How advanced should technology be to built spaceships as spacious as in fictions

A lot of engineers, myself included, have very little use for Elon Musk in general because he makes a great deal of grandiose promises but as evidenced with Tesla's autonomy program he cuts corners on safety constantly and he's very VERY reckless. The man's going to get a LOT of people killed if he...

Re: How advanced should technology be to built spaceships as spacious as in fictions

Modern spacecraft and space stations here in the real world are as compact as they are for one simple reason… the only way we can currently get things into orbit is with chemical rockets, and those are big, heavy, inefficient, expensive, and commonly single-use. Payloads have to remain small and ef...

How advanced should technology be to built spaceships as spacious as in fictions

One thing that has been pointed out several times before that sci-fi spaceships are too spacious, while in real life rockets, shuttles and space stations are the opposite. So I am just wondering what kind of advanced technologies do we need to built spaceship as spacious as in fiction? Just the envi...

Re: How easy can you modify a non-moveable frame MS to a moveable frame one?

This discussion really gives me the idea that the EFF had wanted something with Moveable Frame like the Jegan right after Gryps War, but then Axis came knocking and they had to raise a fighting force quickly, hence upgrading the GM II into GM III. (Did the GM II incorporated anything from the GM Que...

Re: Were all variants of the Guncannon had Core Block System?

Given that the Guncannon was more armored than regular MS in the 1st place, core block wasn't that much extra weight. It was too complicated and too expensive hence why it wasn't adopted in most MS in universal century. Didn't the Mudrock need the extra thrusters, while its primary weapons were not...

No, it seems like only the original RX-77-2 Guncannon was the only one to have the core block system. It had a limited production too.

All other variants had it removed to save on costs.
That makes sense. The Guncannon could really use that weight reduction.

Were all variants of the Guncannon had Core Block System?

Just wondering whether the Guncannon Heavy Custom, the Guncannon Heavy Type D, and the Guncannon II have Core Block System? The Mass-production Guncannon and thhe Gundam Unit Unit 4/5 show that the Federation would be better getting rid of it and make use of the lesening of complexity and weight.

How much have Colony Lasers changed?

I wonder if there is any Japanese manuals that expand upon Colony Lasers. They are so simple, that it seems difficult to improve them. The only changes to Colony Lasers betweern 0070s and 0090s UC that I can think of are better energy-collecting and cooling systems.

Imagine the trouble in the early days of Anaheim's mobile suit development

This article and others about Faraday Future remind me of how much the executives can screw up the engineering process. So I wonder if it is the same with Anaheim in the early days of its mobile suit production. I suppose their subsidiaries must already had been semi-autonomouis since then, so the o...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Is there any explaination for why did the Vajra evolve in a way that make them so deathly in war? I suppose that they Protoculture and the Zentrandi must have fought them long before human?

Re: Would you prefer more missiles or shoulder-mounted cannons?

Depends on the density of Minovsky particles. The GM III long range missiles(at least the leg mounted ones) are supposed to be VERY accurate. In a period where Minovsky particles aren't scattered like crazy, I guess missiles should be better than the skill based cannon. If the unfortunate target's ...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Eh... sort of? The original working title was " Battle City Megaroad " when the series was under development. One of the series's producers really wanted to name the titular ship "MacBeth" according to his own personal tastes, and "Macross" ended up being the compromise they settled on. And so they...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

I recently heard a rumor that the name "Macross" came from both the words "Macro" and "Macbeth", the later because its creators envisioned an epic drama?

Would you prefer more missiles or shoulder-mounted cannons?

Just thinking about the large period during which the Federation did not have a frontline MS with shoulder mounted cannons (after the Nemo 3 to the development of the F-71 G-Cannon), save for the limited-production Loto. And at the same time, we see how many missiles could be strapped onto the GM II...

Re: Gihren as father of Glemmy, Puru and Alicia

Probably for lack of an appropriate sample of Char... and the fact that the original was still very much around to get cross about it. Neo Zeon only started trying to clone Char after Char was generally believed to be very very dead. Say, we know that SNRI has their hand on two AI based on Amuro an...

Re: Gihren as father of Glemmy, Puru and Alicia

I think it's a bit of a stretch for Alicia to be in there. AOZ reboot is a bit... Disorganized? That and nothing else (that I've seen) have ever referenced what's supposedly transpiring on Mars. Well AOZ has always existed in its kind-of-a bubble, right? I can't imagine the chaos if some of the lat...

Re: Gihren as father of Glemmy, Puru and Alicia

Well, the Zabi did have Garma, so there were not-so-bad Zabi too--in fact Glemmy fell to me like a smarter Garma that actually played the power game. Now, if Glemmy is really a clone, I wonder then why wouldn't they just clone Char instead of turning people into Cyber-Newtype copy of him (Full Front...
