Re: The Official Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance Anime Thread Mk I
Yeah Seto understands what I meant to say. It's a common enough complaint with Gundam titles... Though, I must admit, as someone with an appreciation for Gundam I rather like how Requiem for Vengeance adds some authenticity to the fear that the Gundam stoked in Zeon's forces during the One Year War...

Re: Neo Britannia Knightmare Frames
Much like how the initial takeover of Area 11 prior to R1 was to primarily control the largest source of sakuradite in the world. Even that was arguably just a plausible excuse to sell the Britannian government on invasion. There was a Thought Elevator in Japanese territory on Kaminejima, which Cha...

Re: Neo Britannia Knightmare Frames
So, there are finally some answers about Roze of the Recapture 's badly-written plot provided by producer Goro Taneguchi buried at the back of the Autumn 2024 issue of Great Mechanics DX . Why Hokkaido? According to producer Taneguchi, Neo Britannia chose to invade and occupy Hokkaido in part becaus...

Re: Neo Britannia Knightmare Frames
Sorry about that, the map of Orb I found didn't have all the islands, and I haden't seen the size comparison chart. No worries. I have yet to find a map that shows more than just the main island and the few small islands supporting their mass driver. The ~20 islands making up the Orb Union comes fr...

Re: The Official Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance Anime Thread Mk I
That's a funny way to put it but I'm not sure if there's another Gundam entry that can be considered a "Zaku murder simulator" besides maybe fanfics. Can you provide another example of such? Maybe MS Igloo? Given the description "as the Gundams just solo the entire enemy army as usua...

Re: Neo Britannia Knightmare Frames
That's not uncommon in Mech anime. It's actually pretty uncommon for a creator to do such a poor job of exposition that the whole idea of a force is ridiculous on the face of it. Fafner had a small artifical island that doubled as a NERV stlye base [...] If you're thinking of Tatsumiyajima, then no...

Re: Neo Britannia Knightmare Frames
Its really hard to keep up with the iterations of the same mech when there is almost no actual visual design changes between them outside of it being explained via the official website. Its like trying to explain how the M16 and AR-15 are two different guns that both act and function the exact same...

Re: The Official Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance Anime Thread Mk I
Is this gundam entry yet another boring "zaku murder simulator" as the Gundams just solo the entire enemy army as usual? Yeah, pretty much. It's a mook horror show, but told from the perspective of the Zeon occupation force instead of the Federation. An unusually self-aware lot who are so...

Re: Neo Britannia Knightmare Frames
It is strange how the Camdens are supposed to be on the level of the lancelot yet act like reskinned sutherlands. The Gekka should still be able to stand toe to toe with them since they are the next evolution of tanks/heavy armor in that universe and most mainline tank models serve for at least a d...

Re: Dragonar reception
It's also worth noting that several 1980s Sunrise mech were actually a bit different from just following Gundam tropes ( Vifam(with the alien war), Votoms(having more of a Dune influence), Dougram(focusing even more on background politics than Gundam did), Galient(having more European fairy tale kn...

Re: Neo Britannia Knightmare Frames
I still think the Camden was a missed opportunity for amphibious combat kmfs adapted to work in mud and shallow waters. Since that hasn't really been tried in mecha before. Would be easy to conceal them with the flat top that chassis has. There's a bunch of UC-era amphibious mobile suits out there ...

Re: Code Geass Roze
Yeah I could see the parallels of speedrunning R1 and R2 since the Damocles came out of nowhere and they've also been doing that with the Lost Stories Gacha [...] It's a gacha game... they do that to farm microtransactions from people with undiagnosed gambling addictions. It's way less excusable wh...

Re: Fukudas best work
Oh boy! We're getting a prequel to the completely unnecessary sequel that went nowhere and added nothing of meaning or value to a story that was already well past its use-by date! Sunrise's shilling for new Gundam spinoffs is starting to read like Harmony Gold's shilling for new soon-to-fail Robotec...

Re: Dragonar reception
So in the Seed Freedom thread Fukuda's work on Dragonar was discussed. So in a bigger sense, how exactly was Metal Armor Dragonar recivied in Japan in the 80's? In a word? "Poorly." If I had to point to one primary cause for Metal Armor Dragonar 's unenthusiastic reception, I'd point to D...

Re: The Official Gundam SEED FREEDOM Anime Thread Mk I
It turned me off Gundam completely. Absolute garbage show and a horrible first impression to new fans. It may not have been your cup of tea (or mine), but the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED TV series was an unexpected smash hit in Japan that got some of the highest ratings in the franchise's history. Just...

Re: Fukudas best work
Totally, look at 0080 for example, it's a dark, tragic war story, that still has some of the most intricate mech designs in Gundam. The new designs are clealry part of a sales line, but it dosen't detract from the story or the characters at all Plus the battle scenes are patricularly brutal, especi...

Re: Fukudas best work
I think the concept of his is that the "project" was toy oriented as it was sponsored by a toy company. Which is not entirely wrong because without the sponsorship there would not have been the anime. How the Sunrise staff scam their way out of it is entirely another story of its own, but...

Re: Fukudas best work
In a followup post, Fukuda noted that series like the first Mobile Suit Gundam anime and Space Runaway Ideon were also toy anime productions. ガンダムやイデオンも昔の作品は大抵おもちゃ企画ね。 — 福田 己津央 (@fukuda320) October 20, 2024 Most of the older works like Gundam and Ideon were developed for toys. Fukuda is either misi...

Re: The Official Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance Anime Thread Mk I
I gave this one a watch, and as impressive as the mechanical and background animation is the character animation leaves a lot to be desired. Its weakest point, though, is the writing. Requiem for Vengeance is not a story with a coherent narrative, developed characters, and sense of progression towar...

[...] it really feels like the plot is going to be its own story about a guerilla war to save the population of Hokkaido from this rogue faction of Britannian Warlords. However the plot quickly deteriorates after that and has no idea what its doing with the plot by the half way point. Nah, the writ...
