Re: Things that makes a mech looks "cheap" or "industrial"

Too bad that I know nothing about design or design language. I've been wondering for the longest time what can makes a mech looks "cheap" or "industrials". Like, I always find mechs if they appear in steampunk works are painted in jet black or a shade of grey that are reminiscing of the steam train...

Re: Decals/painting on mecha

I have just having a talk with an old friend now living in Russia, and we talked about cars in Moscow that had all these wild-looking images hand-painted on their bodies. That makes me wonder if there are that many mecha that have unique paintings or decals. I mean, in animated shows you do not alw...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Going on the left field, have anyone played a PS1 game called Space Griffon VF-9? The titular mech though does not transform look suspiciously like the VF-11 and other Valkyries. I haven't looked into who did mechanical design for the series, but I wouldn't be surprise if there is an interview whic...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

I believe the only other model besides the VF-1 Valkyrie to have individual FAST Pack model numbers cited in official Macross setting materials is the VF-11. Variable Fighter Master File  offers unofficial designations for certain packs on other models of VF. Can you post the designations? I'll hav...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

I've never seen the VF-19 (A-D) equipped with the NP-BAP-15c booster units in GERWALK and battroid modes. Odds are you never will... that particular configuration was something that  Variable Fighter Master File 's writers came up with, and doesn't appear in  Macross 's official setting. Are they m...

Re: Strength of Mobile Suit Types?

Going beyond the fact that Gundams and other specialty units are more powerful than Mass Produced Units. Within the Mass Produced units, would some types or classes be better than others? Like would Reconnaissance Units be considered weaker than than an Attack Use Unit? Would an Attack Use Unit or ...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

What are the differences between these gunpods used by the VF-22: Howard/General GV-17L and Howard BP-14D? An excellent question... and one with no clear answer. Prior to the first edition of Macross Chronicle , I don't believe there was any mention of an alternate model of gunpod for the VF-22. It...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Looking at the VF-22 Master File, it seems that when the VF-22 equips a reaction missile, it also removes the nearby compartment that houses the gunpod and micro-missiles? Speaking of that compartment, can it equip both a gunpod and micro-missiles at the same time? So... Variable Fighter Master Fil...

Re: Medieval Knight Mecha?

So when exactly did Medieval Knight Mecha first start appearing in mecha shows? You can see some examples of this in FG (i.e. the Gyan), and more examples than you can count in later Gundam entries. As for other real robot series, you have the somewhat obscure Panzer World Galient, wherein all the ...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Are those guns on the forearms of the Armored VF-25, Tornado VF-25, and YF-29? Nope, those are high-thrust verniers. Since they have different heads, are there separate designations for the Isamu and Ozma versions of the YF-29? Somewhat frustratingly, they are not. None of the YF-29s in Macross 30:...

Re: Variable Fighters and mass production.

I do remember hearing that the SMS was sort of a testing ground for new prototype units, explaining why the group is made up of so many unique variants, also the team is made up of ace pilots anyway. [...] Not prototypes. What the Frontier Government hired the local branch of SMS to do was test the...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Is there art or animation of the VF-171 either ejecting its gunpod from its leg compartment or storing it away? Not that I recall... Its writeups in Macross Chronicle and other official publications do indicate that the VF-171 stores its gunpod internally in the leg in the same manner as the VF-17,...

2: Whatever the main characters are using, which is usually not the same unit. Generally speaking, these are usually not mass-produced machines. Special Forces VFs like the VF-17, VF-19, or VF-22 are still mass production aircraft... they're just not produced in HUGE mass production lots like the M...

Re: Variable Fighters and mass production.

So how many of the Variable Fighters in Macross could be considered mass produced, and how many were customized? There seem to be so many different Variable Fighters (each main character has their own) that its seems as though they wouldn't all be mass produced. So are they variants of the design(i...

Re: Resource Asteroid?

Why not still have the asteroid attached?

Raw and processed materials are worth money. Extracting and processing those materials creates jobs, which drive a colony's economy. Even if they're not using it themselves, they have excellent reasons to want to mine those asteroids hollow.

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

I only see "YF-24" but no "VF-24" in that article. It doesn't mention the VF-24 directly, but as noted in my previous post that Technology Sheet does describe the outcome of Shinsei Industry's demonstration of the completed YF-24 Evolution in 2057 as resulting in the New UN Forces drafting and appr...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

By that logic, it would seem weird in Macross 30 that NUNS special forces unit Havamal did not use the VF-24, instead using the YF-29B... Although ironically enough there is no info about that YF-29B either like the actual VF-24. Not really, I think... the VF-24 was supposed to be the Earth/Federal...
