Re: The difficulties in maintaining the ZZ Gundam

Yes, but considering they have thermonuclear hovers working off thermonuclear jet engines, and it is quite common even on multi-purpose(all terrain) machines like Rick Dias, it shouldn't be that hard to maintain a standard model engine for all of the ground types. Granted, the thermonuclear turbine...

Re: The difficulties in maintaining the ZZ Gundam

Points taken, but for the United Maintenance Plan I'd like to add that it created even more problems for Zeon. [...] It did, but mainly because adherence to the United Maintenance Plan was lackluster at best and there were still a lot of "pet projects" from the Principality's top brass in the works...

Re: The difficulties in maintaining the ZZ Gundam

Do we have any idea how different are the Re-GZID's and the Zeta's transforming mechanism to each other beside the obvious-the backpack? Because as I see it, Amuro's idea of an ideal Re-GZ is a Zeta with wing binders and some Jegan parts... It really show how far ahead out there the Zeta's design i...

Re: The difficulties in maintaining the ZZ Gundam

Speaking of the Theta Plus, anyone found out what the RGZ-91X Re-GZID is for? A prototype for a prototype AKA the Re-GZ? Beside the fact that it seems to have succeeded both the Zeta Plus C1 and R but being closer to the actual Zeta in Waverider mode, I don't know what makes it special? The Re-GZID...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Say, the things that happened in Macross 2036 are not canon, right? I found out about Eternal Love Song when searching for retro Japanese turn-based strategy. Macross 2036 was/is the first canon Macross video game, though as it was produced as a tie-in to connect the events of Macross: Do You Remem...

Re: The difficulties in maintaining the ZZ Gundam

In Universe it seems as though the ZZ is a case of Awesome but Impractical. It is noted (In an old Gundam Guide written by Mark Simmons) that the ZZ has issues with power supply. As the Mega Beam Cannon drains the energy, resulting in a short length of use. Although there never seems to be any real...

Re: The difficulties in maintaining the ZZ Gundam

Has anyone ever imagined how big of a nightmare is to maintain the ZZ Gundam? I mean, transformable mobile suits are already a pains in the asses to engineers, but the ZZ was a transformable mobile suit with Core Block system and a bunch of experimental components and weapons. It really put into pe...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Yeah, and I really doubt that Kawamori will do any prequel, given Zero all all. Plus, there is always this spectacle of sizes when it comes to the conflict in his works. The stakes must always be very high. I think we'll continue to see those older Valkyries in easter eggs and various games, at lea...

Re: Zanscare controlled territory.

Thanks, here is some information from the Gundam Wiki concerning the Mobile Suit production facilities that haven't previously been mentioned. Amelia Colony: The Capital of Zanscare also houses mobile suit production facilities, Where the suits are not only built but tested. Eh... it's not really u...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

I could not help but to see the parallel with Macross. I mean, the VF-5000, VF-9 and VF-11 must have had been fantastic at their prime. Too bad that we almost always see them in action when they've become obsolete. Hm... well, in Macross it's mostly because the franchise kind of skipped straight ov...

Re: Zanscare controlled territory.

So how much territory in Space did the Zanscare empire control at the start of the war? Hard to say... because the official materials for Mobile Suit Victory Gundam are somewhat vague about many details of the Zanscare Empire. Every source agrees that the Zanscare Empire arose in the Amelia colony ...

Re: Unique Mobile Suits.

It's Zeta Gundam ... they let Mamoru Nagano do the mechanical designs for that series, and it came out every bit as crazy and unconventional as everything else he does. You had all sorts of weird non-standard shapes like the Methuss, Asshimar, Baund Doc, Pallas Athene, The O, Byarlant, etc. and a fa...

Re: What could've happened to the Gundam franchise if ZZ was a hit in the '80s?

I will give one extra; it might started the whole yaoi fandom, although those fujoshi didn't reveal themselves until W. It was inevitable... Tomino devoted an entire feature film to resolving Char's unrequited man-crush on Amuro, to the point of Char sending him secret gifts, arranging a rendezvous...

Re: Would Macross be more popular/respected if Robotech did not exist?

Honestly, I feel that Robotech has damaged the preception of what Macross 'really' is in the eyes of Americans and English speakers and generic cartoon watchers. Well, perhaps in the eyes of a few of the people who actually remember it... but the majority have shown no such issue even before Harmon...

Re: Would Macross be more popular/respected if Robotech did not exist?

It might get hard because from the licensing company's point of view, getting the Robotech license is much easier and cheaper than the Macross license, and because they bought the rights to do that, it is impossible to stop it now. It's all subject to Big West's approval now anyways... so I'm not s...

Re: What could've happened to the Gundam franchise if ZZ was a hit in the '80s?

fair enough. I was under the impression that Zeta was groundbreaking and was a critical and ratings success in japan and the sequel was highly anticipated and upon airing the 'first half' of ZZ caused such a strong 'backlash' both among the fans, critics and ratings began to drop so Tomino and his ...

Re: What could've happened to the Gundam franchise if ZZ was a hit in the '80s?

Also I'm surprised to see Macross II on that list, I'd always heard that it underpreformed... "Underperform" is relative... Macross may not be as prolific as Gundam but it's one of few titles that can claim similar levels of popularity and influence in the mecha genre. When excellence is your norma...

We also have the anime making most money in each year from 1978~2021: https://youtu.be/L5cKtcFVRGM Should Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ be on a list of anime top sellers? After all, the opening credits boldly proclaim "It's not anime!".  (Incidentally "Anime Ja Nai" was one of the most popular ...

Re: What could've happened to the Gundam franchise if ZZ was a hit in the '80s?

Is it not a fact that there was a backlash from the fans and viewers when ZZ aired and the creative team reacted by making changes. While I don't have an exhaustive library of publications from that period, I can't find any remarks from anyone involved in the development or production of the series...

Re: What could've happened to the Gundam franchise if ZZ was a hit in the '80s?

Re: What could've happened to the Gundam franchise if ZZ was a hit in the '80s? So... my question to you is, what makes you assume Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ fell short of the mark? Its average viewership share was only 0.38% less than Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam 's in the Kanto region. That's not a huge de...
