Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Where is this info from, if you don't mind my asking? Macross Chronicle , mainly... though there are also some details about the YF-24 Evolution's development and final demonstration in other books as well, incl. Variable Fighter Master File: VF-25 Messiah . The exact source is Technology Sheet 01P...

Re: Unique Mechs.

Five Star Stories probably deserves a mention too for similar reasons to Dai-Guard . The mecha designs aren't necessarily all that unconventional, but their presentation is extremely odd in a way that no other title truly emulates. Mortar Headds are kind of the polar opposite of Dai-Guard in that t...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Aside from the VF-171, does Earth use other VFs of the same performance and/or combat capability as the Messiah, Lucifer, Durandal, Chronos, Kairos, and Siegfried? Earth, and the "federal"/"central" New UN Forces have the original 5th Generation main VF: the VF-24. Once the Earth/Central New UN For...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

The number doesn't always reflect the year development started, though. For example, the RX-99 didn't start development in 0099. It's wrong for most of them... because the IJA Long Type designation system that is referenced in the designations of the Federation's Gundams and GM series machines uses...

Re: Unique Mechs.

Hmm... Starship Troopers (1988) had an unconventional take on powered armor that stands out nearly as much now as when it was made. Instead of just being a bulked-up human silhouette, the design followed Heinlein's description in the novel of a hunched, gorilla-like mecha that moved mainly by hoppin...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

And can you give examples in which they failed? The RGM-79C didn't really stop the proliferation of large numbers of variants... it just became the basis for a new wave of variant proliferation. As to the fates of the pre-RGM-79C types... most are left unsaid, though one or two of the lesser varian...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

https://twitter.com/GwynCampbell/status/1441629264722362374 Is it true that Macross II is part of the main timeline? EDIT: Already got my answer: Not in the same continuity as Plus, 7, Frontier, and Delta. As I noted on MacrossWorld, this is a bad terminology problem. Macross II: Lovers Again is a ...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Tell that to ABBA They're ABBA... I'm pretty sure they already know. What are the chance of Max actually turning himself into a cyborg... nah, I don't think it will be the case. It's illegal, so close to zero. That said, we haven't got a good look at the YF-29 Max pilots, right? I wonder if it belo...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

But isn't the 79C essentially bringing as many GM variants that aren't regional to the same standard and stop all of those different minor design changes? It's trying ... but the amount of actual success it had is debatable at best. The problem - or I guess you'd say failure of realism - here is th...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

What are the differences in armament between the Kairos and Siegfried? Relatively minimal. The Siegfried type replaced the 27mm railgun pods in the VF-31A's forearms with a lower caliber, less powerful 25mm railgun model and the weapons bay in the back of the leg that would ordinarily hold a missil...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

But isn't that what's going on? In a word? No . In more than a word? No, we're seeing basically the exact opposite . Not looking at those non-mass-production units where they are basically infighting between contractors like F-16 vs F-17, YF-22 vs YF-23, etc., the actual mass production units of EF...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

The issue here is that the technology triggered a lot of developments around it. You get higher generator outputs, more powerful weapons, field motors, etc. and the higher strain they put on the frame meant they have to develop better material and better ways to handle the strain, etc. The linear s...

Re: GM Quel.

So what is the reason for the underuse of the GM Quel? Was it actually mass produced to start with? Was it too expensive(though that hardly seemed to stop the Titans before)? Or was it surpassed by later units? It was mass-produced, but because it was one of the Titans first new mobile suit designs...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

Given how Gundam does try to be more "Realistic" in Sci-fi warfare, I'd sometimes wondered if the re-used EF equipment in late UC , is the writers way of adding some realism, while dodging the demand for new products. Maybe... though in titles like Unicorn it's pretty clearly just a scramble to get...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

One of the rationales I like to give is the advancement of Minovsky physics. Honestly, I don't buy that rationale... at least not after the One Year War ended. Mainly, I reject that rationale because the defining advancements of the 2nd Generation Mobile Suits that were just beginning to enter serv...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

I hope the next movie better give a good explanation where did Xaos get all the expensive components to make their YF-29. Odds are they probably won't even acknowledge it... though you could assume from the series that they're just bad at budgeting despite being a megacorp since they were basically...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

It really seems as though the Federation is trying to cut costs wherever possible. That's probably why they insist on using either old units or upgrades of units, rather than try a higher quality new version. This can be seen with the repeated use of decades old equipment in the wars in the Second ...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

Would both the Rick Dias and Nemo be considered mass production units? The Nemo is the general purpose backbone of the AEUG, while the Rick Dias is more heavily built and armed. Would both units be given to the AEUG pilots, or would the Rick Dias be a limited commander/ace pilot unit? The RMS-099 R...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Although I don't know whose Green VF-31 using the armored pack that is... It's one of the Aerial Knights... most fans are assuming it's Bogue Con-vaart because of the red personal marking that matches Bogue's red hair, and because he's the only one of the surviving Aerial Knights who has any real d...

Re: UC Gundam Mecha Naming Conventions?

Some of the early Zeon mecha names in the First Gundam series were originally Japanese in-jokes or slightly modified onomatopoeia.

"Zaku", for instance, having been derived from 雑魚 (Zako, lit. "small fry", "nobody", "unimportant person") as befitting its status as the enemy cannon fodder robot.
