Re: Railgun Type Weapons
yes, but in the current state, railguns will produce a lot of heat and heat is very obvious in space unless you are near a planet or happens to be in front of a star. True, though it's not likely to stand out significantly from the body of the ship carrying it... spacecraft can get quite hot when t...

Re: Starship Troopers Power Armor
Is it true that Sunrise didn't have permission to adapt the book? Is that why it was never licensed internationally? No, Sunrise did go through the proper channels and acquire a license to produce an animated adaptation of Heinlein's novel. The reason the OVA was never licensed for international re...

Re: Starship Troopers Power Armor
It is, AFAIK, the closest that any adaptation has actually gotten to the book.Underrated GM Custom wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 6:09 am It's been a longtime since I've read Starship troopers, I realize I've never seen the Studio Nue adaptation so I'll have to check it out and see how it compares with the book.

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
If you see a flash under hostile conditions, you will try to change direction. and it doesn't take much to change enough to get out of the way the longer it take for the projectile to hit as the distances are great and only a very slight angle change still can mean you are a few dozen metres off of...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
The lead cannot be effective if your projectile cannot reach the target distance before your target can well have changed direction and very likely will. While this is true, it doesn't really account for the fact that spacecraft are themselves naturally disinclined to swift changes of velocity or d...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I
Somebody found an interview with Noburo Ishiguro hidden in AnimeEigo's DVD release of Macross, and posted their finding here: https://www.zimmerit.moe/noboru-ishiguro-macross-animeigo-interview/ It was an advertised extra feature, so I'm not sure how it's "hidden"... lol What are the chan...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
Depends on what you are considering as effective range. If your target has any reasonable acceleration, a projectile that will only hit 30s later is not very likely to hit, thus even if it remained as fully effective as a projectile if it hits, we don't consider that as effective range. "Effec...

Re: Other uses for plants in TRIGUN (the old one)
Have there been any other official confirmed uses for plants outside of terraforming and generating electricity? For example weaponization(other than vash's .45lc)? I did read the manga all the way through but it's been a few months and my memory isn't that great sometimes and I haven't finished th...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
Actually, even irl other than laser, particle beams are not very likely to work. They will scatter fast enough that you won't get much longer range than solid projectiles.(they scatter at the speed of sound of that particle) and also, damage relies on the momentum, in which a light weighted particl...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
Beam works because they travel much faster. Even if not talking about electro-magnetic beams, particle beams can travel much much faster than solid projectiles, thus if we only consider the time they need to travel in long space distance like a few dozen to hundreds or maybe even tens of thousands ...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
Hmm...when it come to railgun in mecha anime, the first to pop in my mind is Metal Armor Dragonar. If we count adaption, SRW OG: The Inspector does features some railgun used by AM and the R-Blade. The oldest reference I recall - mentioned but not used - is in Super Dimension Fortress Macross . The...

Re: The Official Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Anime Thread Mk I
I can't say I'm looking forward to Part II of this series. The writing has been consistently weak, the two main characters are painfully unlikeable, and there's no real sense of direction to the story. If it weren't Gundam and therefore Too Big To Fail, I'd suspect it never would've gotten a Part II.

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
Think about it, I think the first animate MS equipped with rail cannon (not counting the shot lancer) seems to be Gozzo from Turn A Gundam, and no other suit use it. When the Earth Militia modified it into Godwin , they naturally don't have such weapon and replace it with a mundane cannon (the offi...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
Is it known how the Atlas Gundam's railgun reloads and if it it has had mass/limited production? id imagine that there would at least be some sort of use for the tech post war too. found some reference images on the gundam wiki and the mag for the railgun loads into the bottom of the weapon. and ap...

Re: Starship Troopers Power Armor
Are we ever shown the exact specs of the power armor and its weapons in any starship troopers media? I was looking into it but i couldn't find anything. Maybe the tabletop games have something? Thought id ask on here since I don't know where else I could ask. So... my question would be "Which ...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
Probably worth to note that aside of Dainslef, all Pluma (Hashmal's lackeys) are also equipped with a railgun, and Bael has electromagnetic gun in its binders. As McGillis notes, l railgun shooting normal ammo is still legal, if borderline, weapon. Based on the official Mechanics and World books fo...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
now that i think about it the dainsleif might not be a full on railgun but instead a electromagnetically assisted weapon since the end of the projectile is sticking out of the end of the barrel. It would make much more sense if it was still fired by some sort of propellent and assisted using a rail...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
So the last UC mobile suit armed with railgun is Land Combat Hyaku Shiki Kai now. But that's MSV, so it's non-canon until/unless it appears in animation (per Sunrise's official policy). Many of the later MSV railguns, based on what I've read, are not even actually railguns but railgun-like weaponiz...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
oh that's actually really cool. doesn't that mean that some ships would be capable of a really souped up type of kinetic bombardment? iirc the U.S. air force made a concept for something that could drop tungsten rods that might have the power of a nuke when dropped. would something like that bypass...

Re: Railgun Type Weapons
It occurred to me a moment ago that I should mention the main area where you'll find the principles behind railguns applied in Gundam isn't even a weapon... It's the Mass Driver systems used to launch ships into orbit and the linear catapults used to launch Mobile Suits, Mobile Armors, and fighters ...
