Hey, my game Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack is up on Kickstarter now!

Re: Mecha miniature tabletop gaming

If you consider Lego models, Mobile Frame Zero plays in 2-3 hours with skilled adults and you use an army completely built of Lego. (see the Flickr group and my recent blog post .) I'd like to write about doing it with Bandai models, too; their modularity would work really well for the game. You'd n...

Re: Mecha miniature tabletop gaming

Wyrdhunter, it looks like I'll be running Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack again this Gen Con! I'm hoping to be running it a bunch at PAX East in March, too, though it won't yet be ready for sale. I'd love to play with you (again?) I started off playing Battletech in the Controversial Age of the plas...

Re: Some Questions on OYW Stuff

The Space Zaku Cannon was just an idea I got after reading that the original Zaku Cannon suffered from recoil problems on Earth, a problem that is null and void in the vacuum of space. Of course, a Space Zaku Cannon with a beam cannon would be even better... How would it be null and void? I mean, t...

Re: Avatar: The Last Airbender gets a sequel

Yeah, the series is probably the best TV cartoon ever made in the US. The things I didn't like — the goofy humor and ease the characters have learning the secrets of the universe — I easily overlooked because the good stuff was so good. It's aesthetically sophisticated, cares about who gets hurt whe...

Re: Mecha miniature tabletop gaming

Well, there's no way I'd ever shoot for those licenses, but I'm working on both of those as ideas for Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack.

Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

Yes, G forces are highly selective. In fact, the discover of acceleration is what led to the editorial industry as we know it.

I just posted some picures of Mobile Frame Zero: Rapid Attack over at the Mechaton Flicker Pool! There are a lot of really excellent mecha over there.

Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

Totally.

I mean, we just saw them making atmospheric entry after deorbiting and we already know that to be a 3-6 G experience.

I just posted a couple of new guys over to the Flickr pool, too!

Hey, is it really not OK to post images here, even if they're from my own server or an image hosting service?

Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

Geez, even race cars experience 3 Gs. This is one of those places where we can just say, "OK." I just looked it up: the original Gundam, fully loaded, weighs about as much as an M1 tank. In fact, the tank weighs just a little more. Given that its volume is so much greater — maybe 50 times ...

Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

Here's a neat toy: it's a vector calculator! So, add in your forces, say, 1G down (that's Earth's gravitational pull. At orbit, it's slightly less than that, but let's call it 1.) by clicking one square up from the center. Now you can add other vectors, cuz if you don't, that's the answer: you fall ...

Re: Why feet?

It's obviously not a practical concern. I'm willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of the series, but I've noted that I tend to prefer series where more things make sense (e.g. Gasaraki, pre-crazypants, VOTOMS, Dougram). So when a series has guys with legs in space, or hovering around, I say, ...

Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

The forces experienced in a dogfight, as noted, are 3-6 G. The forces during entry are also about 3-6 G. The big difference is that entry is sustained but predictable, where in a dogfight it comes in shorter bursts but is in all sorts of crazy directions, given that MSes seem to be able to move in a...

Re: G-Force in SPAAACE!!

Shuttle re-entry is about 3 Gs. That means that, if you weigh 175 lbs, for the time you're re-entering, you weigh 525 lbs. It's also directional, in the direction you're moving. So in the ballute re-entry scene, everyone's on their back, which is distributing the force across their body, except for ...

It is, indeed, a shame.

I, for one, though, will be first on my block to assemble a Landmate.
