Re: Could Zeon have taken Jaburo without the White base?
I think this is a great what if thought experiment, but we need to clarify the question. If we are to address the Whitebase was destroyed in the Gobi by Ramba Ral, would Jaburo been taken? If the OP’s question was in regards to Char’s marine attack, I have doubts that it may have happened. If WB nev...

Re: UC Warship crew complements?
I tried to do some very back of the envelope calculations to help us out. According to a NASA study, the average person consumes about 0.84 kg of O2 a day. This is assumption does not assume strenuous activity and such; which may not be the case onboard a military vessel. At a density of 1.141 kg/L ...

Re: Minovsky Particles and Detection Distance
Thanks for the great reply Mark! The lack of long range visible spectrum based weaponry has always puzzled me about the UC setting; especially after learning about the resolution of current interstellar imaging technologies. I guess I just tried to justify it by saying Minovsky particles were the ap...

Re: Minovsky Particles and Detection Distance
This is a really great technical discussion! It does bring up a sidebar question for me though. Minovsky particle theory bring about pretty interesting tactics questions. 1) Do fleets generally do Minovsky dispersion outside of combat? Assuming real world physics (outside of Minovsky particle theory...

Re: The Acguy was really that stealthy?
One other concern in using Minovsky particles, is that it appears that both sides can pretty easily detect Minovsky jamming. While Minovsky jamming will protect you from long range guided munitions, it will also give away that you have encroached into enemy territory. So using the case of the covert...

Re: Railguns in the Universal Century?
Railgun Scenario: A fully loaded Zaku II (73.3 Tons) using a hand held railgun (7 meter length) firing a 190 gram projectile at 4,000 m/s. Best case assumptions: Zaku provides enough power to use said railgun; Rate of fire of said railgun is at least comparable to beam rifle; 100% conversation of ki...

Re: Thoughts about funnels
Being pedantic, technically you can have a funnel working even very close to the ground in a colony. Since for all intents and purposes, gravimetric forces are negligible in a colony. All perceived gravity is due to centripetal acceleration imparted by the shell of the colony onto an object on the i...

Re: MS Development before Zeta Gundam
Once you see the advantages of a full movable frame in mobile suits like the Gundam Mark II, Rick Dias, and Marasai (all of which were completed in U.C. 0086), it probably seems pointless to throw money at upgrading all those "generation 1.5" machines. I apologize for my unfamiliarity in ...

Re: A Few Minovski Physics Questions
The I-field lattice of the Minovsky Craft system can hold up large objects because the surfaces of the object are too broad to "pierce" the lattice. You can imagine the Craft's lattice as a bed of marbles. If you lay down on top of the marbles, you may sink slightly, but generally the bed...

A Few Minovski Physics Questions
I was just geeking out and thinking about Minovski Particle Physics and lead me to a few questions. * Disassociation of Mega Particles General UC theory tells us that Mega Particles are generated from compressing I-field lattices until the Minovski Particles in said lattices fuse into Mega Particles...

Hi Nu's Fin Funnels
As far as the Fin Funnel is concerned though, HWS uses the same funnel as Vanilla Nu (or DFF, though DFF have more) Hi-Nu technically have a more advanced Fin Funnel system. Supposedly they have longer operation time, and maybe even rechargable. Where as I do know that Hi-Nu's "wings" are...

Re: AMBAC
I'm sure those work well for fine, very precise motion. I'm not sure how good they are for the sort of sudden, sharp turns you'd want in combat. Although the direct impacts of a MS moving utilizing AMBAC may be quite extreme; in theory, flywheels should be able to do everything AMBAC can achieve. S...

Re: Gundam is not really full of shades of gray.
As much as I am a Federation sympathizer, I must admit the Federation, in its portrayal, is never much of a force of good. Even if we only look at its original portrayal in First Gundam (FG), we don’t see the Federation as a force of good. During FG, we do not see any governmental structure of the F...

Re: AMBAC
As much as it pains me to say this; I believe with our current technology, the answer would be no. It would be much easier to use flywheels to achieve the same effect, and computationally a lot less complicated. The main use of UC AMBAC is to justify the humanoid shape of mobile suits. If limbs ever...

Re: Beam Weapon Outputs Revisited
As always, a very interesting theory theory Mark! Though that does make the few, sometime dubious, statisics we do get regarding beam outputs even more confusing to try to analyze. :P It would go a long way explaining why Amuro didn't fire off the shield more during combat. I may be recollecting inc...

Re: Does Nu HWS have higher offense than Hi Nu?
Hm... Interesting. Are you refering to HGUC Hi Nu Gundam perhaps? I just took a look at my MG Kits (Hi Nu and Nu) and though the Nu does have missiles attached to the sheild, at least my version of Hi Nu didn't come with shield missles.

Slightly Off-Topic Questions regarding Nu and Hi-Nu
I apologize for being off topic here, but I since we were discussing the differences between Nu and Hi-Nu I thought it may be appropriate. I was wondering where the information came from regarding mobility of the Hi-Nu being higher than Nu. Is it from the standard trust to weight data calculation? I...

Re: Does Nu HWS have higher offense than Hi Nu?
I apologize beforehand if I am mistaken, but I will confirm when I get home. I do not believe that the MG Hi-Nu carries the Nu Hyper Bazooka on its backpack like the MG Nu does. Though I do not have a HWS kit to see if the HWS loses this capability with the addition of the armor parts. Though if I h...

Re: Lasers in Gundam
I apologize for being uninformed, but I always thought that Minovski Particles did effect the visible spectrum in some sense. I always thought to some extent, Dummy Balloons demonstrated this theory. Dummy Balloons generally do not look anything like what they are pretending to be. The way Dummies a...
