Re: Decals/painting on mecha

Five Star Stories also has a ton of decorative elements on the Mortar Headds, though as those things are pretty much showcases for the wealth and prestige of the owners it's just one more element of the ostentation.

Maybe can also serve as an extra shield againts meteorites as a secondary function.
Could be, assuming the colony is oriented properly. Something similar happens in the novel Seveneves when an asteroid (originally intended for mining) was used to protect the ISS-turned-ark.

Re: Unique Mechs.

Would the Exaxxion count, I wonder? The design itself isn't unique but the way it's treated as being nearly as dangerous to the world as the aliens it's supposed to be fighting against (to the point that Lina Inverse would probably complain about the collateral damage it causes) is pretty unique. Ev...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

That brings up a question I've had and I imagine it's been answered somewhere: Has it been stated which version of the VF-31 it is that's being planned for mass-production, the Kairos, the Siegfried or both?

Also, wasn't there an old black and white movie with a giant chicken? For the love of god I couldn't recall which film was it.
The Giant Claw, which is gloriously bad.

Re: The first recognizable "chicken leg" mecha

I... actually can't think of anything earlier than the AT-ST off the top of my head either. I decided to look and see if there was anything written up on the inspiration behind that and couldn't find anything, but a lot was written about the (non reverse-jointed) AT-AT. Here's one example . The Mars...

Re: L-Gaim and Five Star Stories

I'm pretty sure the Jagd Doga predates the Jagd Mirage by a couple years. Seeing how Jagd is a German word and means 'Hunt(ing)' the shared name is likely to be a coincidence, especially as the AKD also has the Wunder Schätze and the Wolke Schätze which have obviously Germain names. Bonus crossover ...

Re: L-Gaim and Five Star Stories

Another amusing bit of mecha trivia is that despite FSS having its own equivalent to the Original Auge (the aforementioned 'Machine Messiah' Auge), Amaterasu's Knight of Gold 2 wound up serving the equivalent role in the Majestic Stand, being built from parts of Amaterasu's knockoff model and having...

Re: Fanmade mecha TBS game

Just like you dispelled every cogent point people raised about your ZOINKS classification systems? Oh wait, no you didn't. Once again you're being insanely arrogant and treating your ideas as if there can be nothing wrong with them and the fault must be on anyone who dares disagree with you. Which i...

I wouldn't dare show it's workings anywhere until I have ascertained that I have a definite interest from several parties Don't hold your breath waiting... 'Pelagic' just means; among other things; that in the battlezone there is no land in sight, so amphibious capability does not factor in to trav...

Re: Super Robot Wars 30 - Global Release

The last few games have had English (not necessarily great English but at least readable) as an option so I suppose it was only a matter of time before Bamco figured out how to make a global release happen. L-Gaim and Gun x Sword both returning after long absences makes this one an insta-buy for me ...

Re: Fanmade mecha TBS game

Do you remember how nobody was interested in your 'realistic' classification system and pointed out to you that it's an exercise in overcomplication? If your 'battlespace' concept is any indication I have to assume that should you actually manage to complete this game of yours, it would be a system ...

Re: Obscure Gundam Wing Weaponry & Equipment

It's not just the GX, the Airmaster (Burst)'s rifles and the DX's rifle are also referred to as 'Buster Rifles'. The later 1.5 and Reborns Gundams from 00 use it too, though at least those are noticeably more powerful than 'standard' beam rifles, if nowhere near the level of hax as the Wing weapon. ...

Re: How much damage could 60mm vulcan guns could actually do?

Secondly, if the vulcan guns are kind of middling, why wouldn't Anaheim just replace them with some kind of rapid-firing beam gun? As mentioned, cost-effectiveness is probably the biggest factor for UC suits even once beam weapons of the appropriate type become feasible. Off the top of my head the ...

Re: Unusual Shields

Ahhhh okay then, I wasn't aware it was called Defense Rod but I recall what you're referring to. A spinning defense is certainly interesting, the most prominent one appears to be in G-Reco where spinning beam sabers make for a very effective shield. This is more a callback to Turn A when Loran did ...

Actually, I suppose the flexible shields brings up another one, the extremely versatile shields of the Kimaris Vidar. Not only are they mounted on arms that let them cover most of the upper body but they have thrusters so they double as maneuvering aids and they contain the ammunition and most of th...

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I

Funnel missiles seem to be a bit of an evolutionary dead end, since the only units that mounted them were Xi and Penelope and then the Gastima much later... though I'm not sure those actually operate on the same principles. Oh, and the Kshatriya Repair had proto-funnel missiles I guess. Whether it's...

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I

I mean, you need spare parts to repair suits after they take damage so unless you have the facilities at a base/on a ship to fabricate them from scratch you need replacements made in advance. Given how funnels get shot down, you'd assume that most suits carrying them would be shipped with at least a...

I didn't include the Virsago's Strike Shooters because they actually made it into the anime (in Episode 21 specifically, doing what the Frost brothers do best).
Well then, that tells me I need to rewatch X sooner rather than later because I totally forgot it appeared.

Re: Obscure Gundam Wing Weaponry & Equipment

As I mentioned earlier, the Virsago also got an extra weapon, one shown on the box art even. If you looked at the pictures the Twin Beam Sword is one hilt that has beam blades coming out of each end, though it reuses the beam effect parts used for the DX's normal beam sabers. Adding to this, because...
