Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

The on-screen invincibility to beam weapons was a big reveal in S2 against the rogue mobile armor. Was it ever explained if that beam resistance was something unique to Gundam type units or any Mobile Suit with nano-laminate? Do we ever see a beam-saber or similar weapon in the manga or supplementa...

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

I had always suspected the calamity war debuted a lot of experimental tech but after the war there wasn't much appetite to perfect it. It would certainly be interesting if they decide to a series set in the calamity war. I'd be all for that, because each of the Gundams we've seen so far has done it...

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

Oh interesting, I had always thought they were developed as a counter-measure to beam shields. So I suppose it's something like a railgun lance? Ah I may have misunderstood, is it firing the lance or firing spikes/bullets out of the side of the lance? Shot Lancers fire the actual lance and hence ca...

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

The Shot Lancer darts are just spikes of metal fired at high velocity via electromagnetic acceleration. The internal logic behind them is that the projectile is less likely to cause a catastrophic kaboon when hitting an enemy MS than a beam weapon would, seeing how the Crossbone Vanguard suits were ...

Re: Coordinators and Biological CPU's

Do you remember the whole explanation in SEED for why Kira is called the 'Ultimate Coordinator'? It's because Coordinators are engineered at the earliest stages of development before being returned to their mothers' womb. Because that's not a completely controlled environment, the children don't alw...

Re: How many units were in the G-Project?

They're from various spinoffs, yes. You know the Stargazer trio, the other Actaeon Industries variants (Nero Blitz and Rosso Aegis) come from Delta Astray. The Librarian Works designs (Regen Duel, Hail Buster, Gale Strike and Nebula Blitz) all come from Vs Astray, Sword Calamity, Forbidden Blue and ...

Re: How many units were in the G-Project?

I have only a passing knowledge of SEED MSV and Astray but I'm always interested to learn more. If you include those series then how many total units are the G-Project? Uhhhh, let's see, counting the later-developed trio as well I think the end result is 24. Aside from Actaeon Industries you also h...

Re: Gundam Heavyarms's - what calibre ammo does its gatling use?

One of the freeze frame bonus in Wing is the blue print of Vayeate, the dish connecting to the gun has a part labelled "Minovsky Particle Accelerator" So it is either shooting Minovsky particles or the compressed to degenerate Mega Particle like in UC. Gundam Wing also features text grabbed from th...

Re: Gundam Heavyarms's - what calibre ammo does its gatling use?

In the wing TV series the Gatling shoots beams... I'm assuming they are plasma bolts instead of lasers It's almost never lasers in Gundam and is usually some form of charged particle beam, though some settings get more detailed on the topic and others just shrug and say 'yeah, beams'. Guess which o...

Re: Moonrace weaponary

Apparently there's an article in one issue of Dengeki Hobby called Before Turn A which says the FLAT was developed by Moonrace to help maintain public security, Wikipedia Japan notes that several of the people involved in the series' setting development contributed but not the actual writers, so the...

Re: Freedom Gundam (SPOILER)

SEED is the better part of twenty years old now; thar's not really spoiler-worthy. Anyhow I don't know if anything official has been said but Rau pilots it before Kira in one G-Gen game (Advance, which came out right after the show finished) and as the rest of his elites already had their Gundams at...

Re: How powerful is Mazinger Z's Rust Hurricane anyway?

Hey now, even Star Trek deals with things in quantifiable terms often based on real science... True, but that line about how stuff works ('quite well') is an actual answer that Michael Okuda would give whenever anyone asked him how particular bits of tech worked, in particular the 'Heisenberg Compe...

Re: How powerful is Mazinger Z's Rust Hurricane anyway?

Mazinger is pretty much THE defining example of the Super Robot genre so... you're probably not gonna get details and they're not going to be particularly meaningful even if they did exist. It's like Star Trek and questions about how various bits of technobabble work: They work just fine, thanks for...

Re: Question regarding Heavy Metals

as the title says, I'm curious... how do the mecha of L-Gaim work? If you mean 'how are they powered', the answer is sunlight. Heavy Metals are armored with something called... Genepla I think they called it. It's able to absorb solar energy that can power the unit. some of the more advanced units ...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

"a 'hard' magic system or a 'soft' one" how does this go? like in Mahouka/ irregular in magic high school? Seto Kaiba pretty much nailed this one. Hard magic may break physics as we understand them but it follows its own laws, these laws are discoverable via observation/experimentation and you can'...
