Re: Fictional vs. Real-life: Prototypes in actual combat

First post in aggggesssss, hi everyone. Been giving some thought this issue recently, and I find this thread rather interesting. So, is the consenus at the moment that the whole prototype issue is one of linguistic ambiguity? As various similar but seperate terms are being interchanged inappropiatel...

PoD wasn't really 'serious/emo' though. That really only applies to Akito, who was always 'emo' in the first place. Plus, he's not the focus of the movie anyways. I think you miss both the joke and the point. Akito was intended as a send up of mecha leads (he shares a voice actor with shinji in the...

First of all, it's Lagann. In the context of the story, it's just a name Kamina made up, so I doubt it has any special meaning in English, Japanese or any other language. Even Gurren was just a name he made up, although obviously it's close to Guren. Well, the ever-reliable wikipedia gives Lagann a...

I'm currently working up the nerve to watch POD again, so can review it, but the movie scarred me a great deal when I watched four years ago. It seems the creative staff didn't get what made the TV series worthwhile and popular, and then tried to compress an OVAs worth of material into a single movi...

There's not much too discuss, to be fair. There's little indication of an ongoing plot thread that the moment, save for Casshern's amnesia, and we've got a pretty good answer for that. The actual content of the series has been pretty episodic.

Did anyone else get an "Ergo Proxy" vibe from this? With a post-apocalyptic wasteland, an amnesiac hero, cute little robot girl, and a slightly arthouse style? Fortunately, Casshern has action instead of repeated mind games. So far anyway. I have to say though, while the title character re...

I was going to disagree, but that would explain so much. Especially given the lordgenome=simon/guame=boota parallel.

All that aside, I'm really interested in Parallel Works 6. It's all very similar yet undeniably different, be it in a redesigned Gurren Lagann or the red-headed hero who looks like Gimmy. A friend theorized that PW 6 might be depicting an earlier rebellion against the Spiral King's rule, as there a...

Just seen epsidoe 25. On the whole, it was a good ending to a good series. Nice characters, good animation, beatiful music, and nowhere near as irrating as Macross 7. The downside? Well I found the plot to be rather weak in comparison with the rest of the series. I found speculating about it more in...

I just watched episode 24. I'm still confident of a kill-em-all ending, though I doubt Alto is actually dead. I'd also like to say that time has made all that plot speculation we indulged in completely redundant. It seems that every possible plot thread that I had dismissed as too obvious or cliched...

I'd like to echo people's feelings of burnout, and also predict a Tomino style kill-em-all ending. This series needed either more actions or fewer episodes. The conspiracy and mystery plots look increasingly shallow (He's Ranka's brother, Ai-Kun is Vajra, the war is about fold quartz etc etc). As fo...

Yes, given the Ex Gear's function as a survivial suit and powered armour, it makes sense that it would be tied into the IFF system. However, this implies that the Ex Gear's were transfferred, but the planes were not. Perhaps NUNs wanted to break up the SMS forces, rather than have them continue to h...

I think it's preparation for September 19. It's 'International Talk like a Talk like a Pirate Day'. Shouldn't Alto and Luca be using NUNS IFF? They are still 'Skull 3 and 4'. That really surprised me aswell. It implies that an IFF is tied to an individual (or perhaps an ex-gear), rather than the me...

I understand you're nitpicking about their sudden appearance in NUNS, which I agree with, but you're focusing on the wrong target by asking about what Valkyrie they're flying. I'm kind of focussing on the plane as the symbol of this sudden radical plot shift. It could be a VF04 and my complaint wou...

You're talking about different things now. Whatever reason Alto and Luca decided to stay behind with NUNS has nothing to do with why they have to use the VF-171EX. I'm not. I'm pointing out that they seem to have gone from SMS topguns, to NUNS pilots with no appearent gap in between. There should h...

When did Alto and Luca get a VF191ex? Because it's all they have to use. When the Quarter went renegade, it had their Messiahs on it, so obviously they have to use NUNS Valkyries. Yes, but I did wonder exactly why they were in that squadron. That's my point. The only reason I can think of is drama....

Hmm... I'm not sure whether to give Leon a little respect or consider him even more of a tool. Even if it is probably a case of stabbing before getting stabbed, I didn't think for a second he had really outmaneuvered Grace, and I still await his fate with interest. I'm starting think the guy is unt...

so very silly, but so very awesome.
How true.

Still, I think we can safely say now that the build up is paying off. With Ranka confessing to Alto, and then leaving with Baera, and Leon successful, things realy have changed.

Ok, as of episode 19 I can safely say the conspiracy plotline is paying off, as is the love triangle. I'm honestly surprised that someone finally forced the issue between Alto, Ranka and Sheryl.
