Re: Gundam infantry body armor?
Infantrymen are still common, at least early in the history of MS warfare, look at Igloo 2. Crappy, obvious answers- The focus of the show isn't those poor jerks toting rifles around and getting squished by armor. The whole everyone wearing a plate carrier thing is pretty new. When Gundam came out, ...

Re: Prime Minister of the Earth Federation during the OYW
I would assume that the Civilian seat of the EF would've either been dissolved or moved under the custody of the EFF during the OYW. You'd think that the government would've been a major target for Zeon if they thought they could get at them. (As it was during all the subsequent, ever so slightly le...

Re: Char's speech at Dakar
Perhaps I need to re-watch the series, I recently watched the movies over again which toned down a whole lot of Zeta's... stuff. Char is pretty contemptible, though not obviously at that point. I can get the respect for Char for his actions during the war and his status as a Deikun. I don't necessar...

Char's speech at Dakar
Once every few years I go full Gundam, re-watch the UC stuff, read as much as I can, draw, write, and pop in here. 'Sup people I vaguely remember who may vaguely remember me?! Anywho, my question is this- Why didn't Char's speech at Dakar splinter the resistance? Making Contolism a front and center ...

Re: Gundam characters you're GLAD died
While it may not have meant a whole lot, I do find Cima's death quite memorable too. I mean, if it weren't enough to get impaled onto the Dendrobium Orchis' mega beam cannon, but to then have said mega beam cannon FIRE and severing the MS in half and most likely vaporizing her simultaneously? x_x;;...

Re: Gundam characters you're GLAD died
The Zabis- Genocidal maniacs. Maybe Dozle and Garma weren't, but they had it coming in a big way. Delaz and Gato- Unthinking sturmtrupen for said genocidal space Nazi's. They were barely even characters, with Delaz getting little screen time and Gato simply spouting the ideology he was indoctrinated...

Re: Zeta Gundam: Why is it so great?
Problem I had with most of Zeta's female is how, well, bitchy they are. The main ones like Fa, Emma, and Reccoa nagged all the time and none of them were particularly effective pilots. If only more of them were like Maour. Sigh. Fa was a dumb kid without the natural talent of Kamille. (Or the Judo ...

Re: is the Zaku II rifle feasible
EDITED TO ADD- I'm still trying to figure out how the magazine works on the 100mm Ground type machine gun, and what the cartridge might look like. It's not as clear to me as the MMP78. Well according to the MG manual the magazine "slides" into/onto the machine gun horizontally but maybe t...

Re: Zeta Gundam: Why is it so great?
I read this thread last night, attempted to post, realized I was completely scatterbrained, and took my leave. Lets see if I can piece together a cogent post. I've seen about half or 3/4's of the TV version and the movies. Like MSG I found the Movies more watchable, hence, getting through ...

Re: Ethnicity, Language, Religion and Nationalism in UC
Thanks for all the replies guys- I kinda drifted away from my own thread for a couple days there. Attention Deficit Ooh Shiny and what not. I'm definitely not current, I have yet to see any of Unicorn, nor have I seen ZZ or much of the TV version of Zeta (did watch the film version). In the Anime, s...

Ethnicity, Language, Religion and Nationalism in UC
So, this isn't something we see covered much in the Anime, the differences between cultures and people on earth as they stand now seem to have been fairly well bridged under the Earth Federation. How was this achieved? Through education and equality, or through opression? Very little attention is gi...

Re: Infantry Firearms in the Universal Century?
I was mainly thinking of the service room & corridor layouts at the access areas of the colonies, where things can get close real quick, and having rifle-power rounds penetrating walls and smacking into things they ought not to might be considered a detriment to combat. Now, the Island-3 coloni...

Re: Infantry Firearms in the Universal Century?
Current-day weapons tech is hardly stagnant, either. Take Metal Storm as one example which Ryujin loves to bring up. Or just caseless ammo in general, which is under development (and has been for years) as a way to reduce the weight of current ammunition stocks. Granted, the M1911 is a century old ...

Re: is the Zaku II rifle feasible
The Pan style magazine is- shall we say, an overly complicated feed system, but it certainly worked in it's day. Here's a picture of the Lewis Gun magazine The cartridges are aligned with the bullet facing the center of the drum, the pan rotates with each repetition and the bolt strips the cartridge...

Re: Infantry Firearms in the Universal Century?
Not to mention that focus has been long shifted to MS warfare.Footsoldiers hardly do anything anymore except for guarding bases. ECOAS suit might be the extent of personnel use technology we see in UC. I'm digging up a dead thread for my first post in years. This is a topic I'm really interested in...

Re: Capture/Rescue of General Revil?
Thanks for the help guys. I thought the Nimrod Team that rescued Revil were actual Zeon soldiers and not a Federal unit? So, Traitors? That seems less plausible to me, surely more than a few Zeon soldiers would have the feeling that they were being led down a path of mass murder and madness, but a w...

Capture/Rescue of General Revil?
This is one for the serious gundam scholars. What is known of the details of the Capture, Holding, and Escape of General Revil? I know that he was captured at Loum after the Anake was crippled by the Black Tri Stars, I know he was rescued in the middle of the Antarctic Treaty, in time to give his &q...
