Re: Evangelion, which is the preferred dub? Netflix, Amazon Prime, ADV???
The dub history of Eva unfortunately also suffers from the lack of care for continuity in voice actors that you tend to see with English dubs given the constant changes in right holders over the years (off the top of my head, ADV, Manga Entertainment, Funimation, Netflix and Amazon have all held ri...

Re: Evangelion, which is the preferred dub? Netflix, Amazon Prime, ADV???
I'm probably 90 - 95% a sub watcher these days but when I first got back into Evangelion (around 2000/2001, I feel quite old...) it was mostly dubs that I watched. Eva was the rare outlier for me where I really disliked the dub (the original ADV one was the only option back then). I didn't care for ...

Re: The Official Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Anime Thread Mk I
I'll just come out and say it; 3 episodes in and Suletta is already in the conversation for favorite Gundam protagonist for me, at least on a sheer likability level. She is such a lovable character and so easy to root for. No wonder she's gotten 2 marriage proposals in 3 episodes! How many Gundam pr...

Re: The Official Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Anime Thread Mk I
After following G-Reco week by week as it aired got me so frustrated that I swore off watching any anime week to week, I've decided to risk going back to it again all these years later for Witch from Mercury. Pretty hyped. Been waiting years for a new AU show. I haven't bothered with the Build stuff...

Re: Listeners
I watched Listeners about a year to a year and a half ago, I thought it was decent, but not super memorable and I've already forgotten most of the finer details. The most memorable thing in it for me was the music in the preview sequence.

Re: Fate/ Franchise order
I've been working my way through the Fate franchise for a number of months now. For the main series, you've got three adaptions of the visual novel which from what I've heard address three different routes from the VN. The order I watched them in was Fate Stay Night: Ultimate Blade Works, Fate Stay ...

Re: Gundam General Audience?
I would presume he means "scam" in a sense that the show was sponsored by a toy company and yet Tomino used it as a vehicle to tell a powerful war story (albeit one that due to said sponsors had to suffer through stuff like the mid-air combination sequence, the Gundam upgrade modules and l...

Re: Xenogears Mech Profiles?
Unfortunately no anime for Xenogears was ever made (which would have been perfect for it as it had such a great story). But the spiritual successor, Xenosaga did have an anime adaption produced for the first game in the series.

Re: Question regarding Heavy Metals
And in CCA's mechanical design Tomino first insisted on using Nagano's designs but then bulged likely because of the dissatisfaction of the other designers and the higher-ups had to intervene and reject Tomino's proposals. My understanding is that the sponsors forced Tomino to reject Nagano's desig...

Re: Unique Mechs.
Many of the Bokurano mechs I feel are similar to the type of enemy monster you'd get in older giant robot shows, I think of something like Zambot 3 with the Mecha Boosts in particular which often were animal or insect themed in some way, which is the case for a number of the enemy mechs in Bokurano ...

Re: Gundam The Origin DVD
With how fast technology is moving you really expect there to be no change in format over 20+ years? You have a one time expense of a blu-ray player, that's all, and they're not that expensive.

Re: Obscure Mecha Refernces?
My favorite obscure one is in 08th MS Team. In Space Runaway Ideon, the enemy characters, the Buff Clan have a phrase they say when launching their mechs, "Arth! Dell! Topp!" In 08th MS Team episode 8 we meet a trio of Zaku pilots called Arth, Dell and Topp. Heavy Metal L-Gaim has a charac...

Re: Your Favorite Non-Gundam Anime Soundtracks/Songs
First I'll echo the comments on Yoko Kanno tracks, her OSTs for Escaflowne, Macross Plus, Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain in particular are amazing. FLCL's soundtrack is great and my personal favorite anime OST. Eureka Seven has some pretty good music, in particular the song "Storywriter" and...

Re: L-Gaim and Five Star Stories
FSS really seems to be Nagano's Magnum Opus, especially if he's trying to tie older and newer works to it. It's also interesting that there seem to be L-Gaim references both to and in other Tomino works, despite Nagano being the driving force behind the project. For instance Kyao is basically recyc...

Re: Forgotten mecha shows?
Anyone here have watched Gonzo shows back in the early 2000s? They have got Gravion, and to a lesser extend, Burst Angels and Samurai 7. I always like Gonzo for their "trashiness"--they put so much effort in the animations, but a lot of times their stories and characters stuck in the 1980...

Re: Forgotten mecha shows?
The interesting thing about Brain Powered these days to me is that it shared a very similar main setup/theme to the far more popular show Darling in the Franxx, focusing a lot on demographic collapse. I always felt this was just such an odd topic for Tomino to go with for a mecha show and he goes s...

Re: What's Next for Gundam Anime?
i agree totally. I think AU's should still be done. I don't think they should do-away with them completely. but i think they've done EVERYTYPE of AU at this point. they need to take a break from it. I know my opinion's not shared by everyone, but the most recent Gundam AU show in Iron Blooded Orpha...

Re: Forgotten mecha shows?
Catching up on this thread! Bokurano? I watched this for the first time within the last couple of months and loved it. One of the best mecha shows I've seen in many years. I will admit that is more due to the premise and characters, the mecha battles leave a lot to be desired and tend to be rather s...

Re: Evangelion's Netflix Dub
The Death and Rebirth "recap" movie originally came out because Gainax wasn't able to get End of Evangelion completed on time. They put it out to hold people over. The first part, "Death" is a recap of the TV series, with a framing device (the children playing musical instruments...

Re: Evangelion's Netflix Dub
A little late to the party, but I've been slowly working my way through the new dub (22 episodes in), and while the original Japanese language version is still clearly the superior version, the new dub is considerably better from a casting standpoint than the original ADV dub, which was absolute tra...
