GM Quel.

So what is the reason for the underuse of the GM Quel? Was it actually mass produced to start with? Was it too expensive(though that hardly seemed to stop the Titans before)? Or was it surpassed by later units?

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

Given how Gundam does try to be more "Realistic" in Sci-fi warfare, I'd sometimes wondered if the re-used EF equipment in late UC , is the writers way of adding some realism, while dodging the demand for new products. Indeed with the exception of the Gundams, the EFS is really only advanced ship and...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

It really seems as though the Federation is trying to cut costs wherever possible. That's probably why they insist on using either old units or upgrades of units, rather than try a higher quality new version. This can be seen with the repeated use of decades old equipment in the wars in the Second U...

Re: Rick Dias and Nemo

That explains a lot. The Rick Dias seems like a better choice for mass production after the AEUG was folded in to the EF. But the EF really seems to favor units that are small and cheap for mass production, really the only suit that matches the Rick Dias bulk somewhat is the Gustav Karl. The fact fe...

Rick Dias and Nemo

Would both the Rick Dias and Nemo be considered mass production units? The Nemo is the general purpose backbone of the AEUG, while the Rick Dias is more heavily built and armed. Would both units be given to the AEUG pilots, or would the Rick Dias be a limited commander/ace pilot unit?

Zeta Gundam-Fa (SPOILERS)

So what happened to Fa's parents? Kamille's parents are killed during the early part of the conflict, and afterward Bask has Fa's family arrested as bait to draw Kamille out, with Fa narrowly escaping. We never hear of Fa's parents after all this; and by the next series Fa is either staying with Kam...

Zum City?

So what ultimately happened to Side 3's Zum City? It's the Capital city of Zeon, yet its never mentioned again following the One Year War; even after Zeon becomes a Republic, and later gives up autonomy. Was the colony seized or destroyed, or was it reconstructed as the Core 3 Colony that was later ...

UC Gundam Mecha Naming Conventions?

So this may be an odd question, but Tomino often seems to be known for using rather unique/unusual names for characters and mecha. Is it ever stated how he (or whoever at Sunrise comes up with mech names) decides on the name? i know some names are portmanteau names and others have roots in mythology...

Re: Your favorite "frankenstein" machines?

Would the Dra-C count? It’s parts of the Zaku II combined with leg thrusters and pods, which make it look like a Blue Mass Produced α-Azieru. It really fits with Zeon as a space army being practically a mass produced mobile armor. Also (SPOILER) the Perfect Gundam from Thunderbolt. Seriously it’s a ...

Rosso Gundam?

In Gundam Thunderbolt (I know its AU, but still it mentions other UC units), There's a reference to several prototype Gundam units at Luna 2 . One of these is the Gamma Gundam (which in the mainstream UC is the name for the prototype Rick Dias), one's name gets cut off, and one is called the Rosso G...

Re: The Official Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Anime Thread Mk I

Cowboy Bebop mentions imports from Mercury, but nothing is ever seen. Also in Ganmu/Battle Angel Alita Mercury was home to a colonization project in the past, the present is a different story. Other than that there's numerous stories about aliens from Mercury, but few about colonizing the planet its...

Side 7?

So how big did Side 7 (Noa) end up being anyway? We only see one incomplete colony in FG, and there are two by the time of Zeta. Are any more colonies added to the Side in later UC when the population grows (ie the Frontier Side)? Also is Green Noa from Zeta the same colony from FG , only now comple...

Luna 2

So is Luna 2 the only Federation asteroid base, or is it merely the biggest? Aside from colonies the biggest Federation bases seem to be Earth. Were the other Space Bases destroyed in the conflict? Or did the Federation simply focuses on building more terrestrial bases? On another note(SPOILER) what...

Re: Your favorite "frankenstein" machines?

Probably the assault shroud Duel Gundam. They managed to use a battlefield upgrade (impressive given that it occurred on a remote ship, in an active warzone, with a unit they barely understood) to turn the plainest unit , into a powerful, armored suit that could hold its own against later, more powe...

Re: The Official Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island Anime Thread Mk I

It might be more tied toward the manga anyway. The manga ran for several volumes over several years; and it seems like there would be more storyline for a movie in that, than in a half hour episode. Or it could mix elements from both together. What was the Cucuruz Doan manga's storyline anyway?

Re: The Official Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Anime Thread Mk I

It hasn't. In the UC Verse solar system exploration has generally gone only to Mars (in manga side stories, never animated) or Jupiter ( the manga is the only time we see the living conditions at Jupiter, though the anime has characters like Sirocco and Kagatie who originated there). It would be coo...

Majestic Prince continuation?

So what exactly happened with Majestic Prince? It had a season, then an extra episode, then a theatrical movie, and after that it just kind of disappeared. The manga ended two years ago(apparently there was a hiatus during it's run), so are there any plans to adapt more/finish the rest of the story?...

Re: Where did the "big thighs, small lower legs, no foot" design come from?

I think MythSearcher has a point in bringing up the Gosu; while it's not exact (as MythSearcher has said), it still does seem like the earliest(or one of the earliest) of that type of design. Look at the legs of the Mack Knife and compare it to the Gosu; they do look very similar, even if the legs a...

Re: Where did the "big thighs, small lower legs, no foot" design come from?

Probably the 80s with Mamoru Nagano in Five Star Stories. The design of several of the Motar Headd's evokes this and it fits really well with Nagano's design style. As for when it became more popular elsewhere , that is kind of hard to say. You can see this design in some of the Seinen Mech OVA's of...
