Note that in Under the Moonlight manga, they basically just made the shield and rifle separable.
That one's been on my reading list for a long time, I'm interested to see how they pull that off.

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

Hah, that's true, Gundam 00 and especially the movie was setting itself up as humanity about to transition to a new level of civilization. Wasn't familiar with the Kardashev classifications before but was certainly an interesting read.

Re: Unusual Shields

If we're talking impractical shields and Gundam, Oh the shields can be practical or impractical just as long as they are unique or unusual. The Mercurius is an interesting case, I had forgotten the Mercurius had a beam saber built into it's crash shield and that the crash shield did anything since ...

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

Of course, which was why I was careful to specify remote heat transfer. Once the blade touches, there will still be a lot of heat transfer as you said. However it won't be melting the armor before the blade touch which I recall was meant to be its idealized use. Very true, seems the weapon would be...

Unusual Shields

Related to the impractical melee weapon thread I thought it would be fun to discuss the unusual shields that show up in Mecha Anime along with their intended purpose and potential drawbacks. I'll be listing a few shields from Gundam below but feel free to add examples from other series as well. Zaku...

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

Thanks again for these detailed posts!! I learned a lot about 00 technology and the MSV designs which previously I had zero knowledge of. We also have to keep in mind that all of the instances we see the green blades being used in animation are in space. Remote heat transfer is slower in space since...

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

They are like a resistance group fighting oppression, and EF isn't really their cup of tea. It makes little sense to fight the Titans on Earth anyway, Titans is supposed to be an elite group from Earth picking out spacenoids who are a threat to EF. True but we do see Titans on earth, even if Jerid ...

Re: 86 Anime.

Ah shoot, should have said source material vice manga. In the novel series does it have the same sequence of 'outburst' then tickle fight? It was a really jarring back to back set of scenes for me. Overall I'm liking it but the transitions between serious subject matter like human livestock then bac...

Re: 86 Anime.

I started watching 86 this week after reading the praise in this thread and the premise seemed interesting. Production values are very high and the mecha combat is great. Although the CGI action moves a bit too fast for me to follow at times. It spends a lot of time showing teenagers being teenagers...

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

No, but since Amuro is working for Karaba at the time, I would say EFSF do not own that unit and since Karaba is anti-EF, they won't simply hand over the unit to EFSF. Interesting, I had always thought of Karaba as an anti-Titans group vice an anti-EF. Do you have any information on what happens to...

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

Indeed, fists can be quite useful. In Zeta Gundam we see Buran's Asshimar give Quattro a sucker punch, we later see Amuro deliver his bazooka and fist through the walls of a Garuda. As I recall Kamille got in several kicks with both the MK-II and Zeta throughout the series. In CCA we have the iconic...

Re: Practicality of Physical Melee Weapons in Gundam

00 stuff from the first post. Wow!!! What an outstanding post, very informative and concise, I have just learned a wealth of knowledge about 00 technology. My hats off to you! GN Beam Sabers have no operational time limits that we are aware off, either from animation or texts. Did not know that, I ...

Re: New Gundam Seed project; sequel movie, manga and more

Gundam SEED IV: The Voyage Home Starring space whales and nuclear wessels  well after the N-Jammer Cancellers have been installed. Honestly if the SEED movie completely diverts from previous entries and focuses on something new in the SEED universe, even space whales, that may turn out really w...

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I

The film is doing pretty well since it released. ¥190M on the first day and ¥524M over the opening weekend . MSG III Encounters in Space is the highest earning Gundam film so far earning ¥2.3B so there's a chance Hathaway's Flash may break that record. I'm looking forward to July when we can see it ...

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

Well, in-universe I can give you some more reasons why they didn't just give Amuro a Zeta in 0093. As always thank you for sharing your insights. I had a few questions when you have the time. The Z+ is not your typical Gundam franchise downgrade mass production unit. It is an upgrade unit Absolutel...

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

There are three incredibly obvious answers: Is that really necessary? I hope you can agree that acting as if questions have incredibly obvious answers doesn't improve or foster a community that wants to improve their knowledge of Mecha and the universe they inhabit. Cost. Trust. The Earth Federatio...

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

Simple guess: harder to maintain. I do like that explanation, the Re-GZ could be a hangar queen because it's simply lacking available replacement parts so Bright is keeping it as a just-in-case. I don't know if Z+ parts are ever mentioned but it's mentioned in either the MG or HG kit that it shares...

Re: Starship Size Comparisons

Dolos class size is big, but not as big as you think likely because it got such narrow protrusion that made the overall length to be something like 15% longer than the main hull. The 182 MS capacity is completely ridiculous, there are drawing out the inner bay of it and it must be filled to have al...

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

In spec, the Re-GZ stands head and shoulders above the other mass production mobile suits of the period: the Federation's Jegan and GM III, and Neo Zeon's Geara Doga. This is what makes the Re-GZ cameo in Unicorn interesting. If the Re-GZ is head and shoulders above the Jegan then why is it a hange...
