Chapter 36
As Kou stands before a downed Val Varo, Gato calls out to Kelly that he's her to pick him up. Kelly is shocked and Kou goes on the offensive wondering where he is. Gato has arrived on the moon with the GP-02A now equipped with the Multiple Launch Rocket System-type system (with a few extra bells and whistles). Above the lunar surface is a Columbus and a Salamis escort. The Columbus is deploying GMs from its side hatches. Gato fires on the descending GMs.
Kelly is struggling with getting the Val Varo moving again and is severely disappointed because he looks like a fool with Gato here to get him. Kou finds Gato and launches an attack on him. He tell him that until he returns Gundam Unit 2 he'll follow him wherever he goes. Gato acknowledges his tenacity but has nothing to do with the likes of him so he fires his beam cannon at him.
Meanwhile, Cima is navigating about in her camouflaged freighter surprised that Gato has made an appearance. She says to leave the mobile armor to Gato as there's something else she wants: the GP-04.
Clara, a member of the Kraken Team down on Earth, was desperate to join Cima. So, Cima decided to entrust her with a mission. She would recover the GP-04 which was stuck in the plasma field from the Val Varo. If she returns with it safely, she would become a member of the Marines. As Clara approaches the unit, she opens the cockpit hatch and the dead body of its pilot falls to the lunar surface. As she flies away in the unit, she detonates some explosives she brought along with it so it looks like the unit was destroyed.
Meanwhile, the lunar pursuit fleet is miffed that they're having difficulty with the enemy. They feel that they should just surround Gato with sheer numbers. Kou asks one of the GM pilots for a spare rifle and the pilot just asks him what unit he's with before getting blown up. The Columbus drops what looks like a modified RTX-440 Assault Guntank onto the lunar surface. (See image
here). Gato is surprised they're using something like that and launches an attack on it.
The captain of the Salamis hands down orders to use the ships cannons to stop the enemy in its tracks. However one of his officers responds by warning him that it would damage facilities on the lunar surface. The captain doesn't care and that they're protecting the facilities by doing so. The ship fires, missing Gato and tearing up a line on the surface.
Clearly pissed, Gato launches a rocket blast at the Guntank as he then draws his saber and slices the unit in half. (See photo
here). Shaken that they cannot find Gato's location, Gato takes the opportunity to sink the ship. Nearby, a Musai sends our several Doms to recover the mobile armor. Karius greets Gato to tell him they've recovered Kelly and Kelly is pleased to see his old friend. Kou, meanwhile, tries telling Kelly not to go .
Kou screams at Gato about Kelly, telling him that he was happy being here on the moon and that there is someone who likes him. Kelly yells back at him about how if he's really a soldier then he shouldn't bring up such trifling matters, that he is an enemy after all and that they kill on the battlefield. Gato asks Kelly what that was about and he tells Gato he'll talk about it later.
Confused, Kou picks up a rifle from the fallen GM from earlier. He says there isn't much ammo left in it but he can use it. Just then, Mora breaks in and tells him not to follow Unit 2. Uraki is startled that everyone is okay. Back at the plant, there is a giant scar across the ceiling that is sealed shut with the bubble gum goo emergency sealant. Mora tells him that Nina is also safe (though she looks terrible). She tells him to leave pursuit to another unit. He tries to explain that Unit 2 is right in front of him but Nina yells that he mustn't fight it. Mora says that he should link up with the Albion.
The chapter ends with Kou staring off in the direction that Gato and the others went...
