Re: Model-Related Pictures and Links

they MAKE them out of existing parts from existing kits. Not technicaly scratchbuilds but thats the way most modellers do them these days. IIRC, the first models of the Sinanju for DHM were based on a MG Hi-Nu with modified and scratchbuilt parts

Re: Model-Related Pictures and Links

Actually a lot of them don't.

They still mold them with poly putty and styrene and to a lesser extent epoxy. But they definitely use a LOT poly putty and styrene, some of the most common modeling stuff in Japan. I mean, sculpting teams in Japan and Korea? Most of that stuff is also styrene and poly putty in prototype form and then they're cast in resin.

Re: Model-Related Pictures and Links

Because its interesting, while pertaining to the topic of scratchbuilds, and VERY impressive:

THIS is a scratchbuild:

http://kallamity.com/galleries/view/262

This first link, is a completed model, the second, the WIP pictures. This is one of the most skilled modellers I've seen, and FF Forums have a lot of them, so thats saying something. My models to some of theirs (not everyone there is DaVinci with an airbrush, but theres a few that are close) are like comparing hand-turkeys to fine art.

Now that model is impressive with its detail, but has mostly large, sculpted sections. Ive seen a few others that had less detail, but had a number of parts comparable to an MG, which is an impressive feat for a scratchbuild with self-cast parts.

Me? I break parts and chip paintjobs -.-

Some awesome scratch builds of various Kamen Riders on SIC frames. Not really models but all scratch build, the core of modeling. Most of the stuff he uses is done with polyputty I believe, just by eyeballing the material of the few WIP he shows. Pretty good stuff.

Some modding

Some kitbash and some mod I believe. All HGUC apparently

Tons of modding and detailing

I had a great example of scratchbuild, some pro modeler made a custom frame for a custom Heavy Arms, it was epic mechanical modeling.

Also most if not all of the resin kit companies sculpt their kits from scratch and often gut them for conversions or for ease of build.

Here's a painted GMG (new) ZII Conversion for the Zeta ver. 2

Re: Model-Related Pictures and Links

I told ya. I'll be posting the pics.

I've mentioned in the Latest Models thread before that I've got an HG 1/144 Stark Jegan, my first UC high grade. I'm impressed with this MS after that brief battle with the Kshatriya. I've had fun dealing with this badassery and the rather messy painting, quite oblivious of an ongoing thesis for my bachelor's degree.

RGM-89S Stark Jegan with the standard bazooka. So far my favorite pose. I don't know why but the whole thing looks a lot better with a bazooka.

Stark Jegan with standard beam rifle and beam saber. Didn't opt for this one as the final pose when I got this displayed in my room. All the other models are posed just like that.

The rear view. The thrusters are simply awesome. I've had quite a difficulty painting the missing yellows though.

PS: Don't hit zoom.

I'm not sure whether to applaud that for how nice it looks, be shocked at the time it probably took to build, or envy the person for the amount of Gunpla they must have. 8)

Damn....someone beat me to the punch.... I wanted to build that type of monstrosity. Oh well, I'll just buy about 100 more kits and pull off the Wing Zero or 00 raiser version....There should be enough green clears in the Master Grade fab four of 00 to pull off the green stuffs.

Wont be the last Zaku that I photograph, I can tell you that much.
Nice shots BTW, always nice to see some terrain for scale. Did you set up lights or just shoot outdoors?

I haven't gunpla in ages, but I'm collecting 1/300 scale SOG figures for use in my tabletop game. I finally got around to scratch building something- a Luggun, of all things- at rather small scale. Follow the thread here:

You can see my city terrain there too, makes for really fun skirmishes!
