Repairing creased Gunpla box?

So I recently went to Japan and went for the Art of Gundam exhibition. Got three boxes of limited gunplas at the exit.

Brought them home in my luggage, and the boxes were dented, one quite severely, another less so. Somewhat expected, I guess, given that I didn't put the most thought into the packing.

Now I'm thinking of restoring the boxes somehow, to a state that looks less damaged.
From what I gathered elsewhere online, gently ironing the boxes seems to be the way to go, but I'm wonder if anyone here has any experience to share.

Don't put the iron directly on the box, put a shirt or a towel on it.

Something that has helped me prevent getting dented boxes while travelling is putting a towel in the box. Gives extra protection to both the box and the runners.
