AmuroNT1 makes a good point with the Gary Stu aspects... a lot of web novels turning into light novels/manga/anime involve the MC being reborn and having all memories of their adult life, most of the time they are genius who remember a bunch of their life stuff but it doesn't really mean much when it comes to learning magic. Majority of the time they are always overpowered geniuses and have little trouble/struggles with anything. Its a trope that is getting pretty tiresome.

The combat in this show is pretty decent and it is pretty interesting seeing mechs use magic, I don't see that much in fantasy mecha shows, last time I saw that was in Ryu Knight.

The main issue with Isekai stories is the idea that a completely average person from our world somehow has the exact set of skills and experiences needed to become a metaphorical god amongst men once he enters a fantasy universe. Kazuma from KonoSuba is a prime parody of this since while he does kind of fall under that umbrella, the "skills and experiences" that make him succeed are common sense and sanity, which are seemingly in short supply in that world.

You might think that the magic in K&M turning out to be similar to computer programming would bother me in this regard, but that's not what bugs me; it's the idea that Ernesti can use his magic programming to interface with the mech to the extent that it practically becomes a Mobile Fighter, which stretches the premise a little too far IMO. What I was honestly expecting to happen would be that Ernesti would refine this world's mecha with ideas borrowed from the anime and model kits he loved back in our world, the kind of stuff that seems common-sense to mech nerds like us but would be major revelations in that setting.

I fully realize that I sound really negative about this show, and it might give off the impression that I'm needlessly hating on it. However, I want to be clear that I really DO want to like this series but so far it's just not winning me over. It's really just falling into the same rote tropes of your standard Tolkein-esque fantasy setting and your modern Isekai story, but with giant robots sprinkled on top. It doesn't have any memorable hooks to it like Dog Days' light-hearted cuteness or KonoSuba's cynical deconstruction of the genre.

The only aspect I'm enjoying is the mecha fights so far and the escaflowne like pistons and gears going combining with alchemy helps it stand out more than other fantasy mecha shows, but looking at the OP rather than being a bit more grounded (no pun intended), it looks like its going to be a bit more super-robot themed which I think wouldn't really mesh well with the fantasy aspect, but I'll wait and see.

Hmmm. He has been studying over the past few years to be able to pilot one of this mecha Amuro. Remember he managed to get into the advanced classes because of him showing off his control over magic. The class they showed him attending after that was going over the mecha itself piece by piece. While it would have his first time piloting a mecha at all, that is true, it is not unfamiliar as you may think. He has studying up on being able to pilot such a mecha for years therefore has some idea on piloting it. That is better then any of the other "fall into mecha and piloting it" trope mecha shows out there like several of the Gundam Shows.

That said. I wouldn't want to his family who would be all face palming over him doing something impossible yet again! Heh. Also was that his Grandfather in the Throne Room and the king looking over at him? Or am I crazy?

It's true that he's been studying the mechs for years, but it bugs me because what he did is effectively the same thing as ripping open the front panel, shoving his hands into the mass of wires, and somehow gaining him a level of control over the machine on par with Mikazuki in full Alaya-Shiki Mode.

Hmmm...True I guess. But still it isn't as SOD breaking as a kid with no experience at all in mecha at all, falling into the cockpit of one and managing to pilot it.

The best part of Episode 2 though was Ernesti gleefully hijacking & hacking Dietrch's robot to fight the battleship-sized giant monster and find a way to defeat it. (How many mecha games did this guy play in his previous life? ALL OF THEM!! ) The shiny-eyed disregard for Absolutely Destruction and pure pleasure at getting to live the dream of every mecha otaku is what makes this anime worth watching. Ernesti totally junking the robot in the process was both amusing and reasonable, since prolonged red-lining of a vehicle no meant to take that sort of stress will frag it! (That would have been the old Chevette I got handed down from Mom many years ago....) Also reminded me of the Blues Brothers movie in the machine doing its utmost, then self-trashing upon completion.

A lot of the character/comic appeal though is the transferred adult problem-solving metric put into a cute boy, which provides a lot of "say whut" reaction bits. The questioning of the runaway "senpai"'s motive before cheerfully citing his deriliction of duty as justification for said hijacking was great! It's definitely the anime's shading of the story to emphasize style over substance, which is okay. This is a 12-episode anime, so detailed explanations occupy time better spent on adventuring & magic-powered mecha porn. That being said, the revelation that humans lack inherent magical power, but can manipulate that power through technomancy, was an interesting detail.

Summer shows tend to be short, so I am presuming they have 12 episodes to cram in as much fun as possible. Certain summer anime have gone on to great things, so you never know!

Few shows are more than 1 cour (12 eps) these days. Unless there is another season, 2 cour anime in a season is pretty rare now.

/grumble/ I understand that. But isn't there are plenty of material with six light novels?

I don't know, length of novels doesn't determine a season anymore it seems, unless the show/novel is super popular or if the anime is greenlight for another season, there might be enough material.

Plus the pacing is going by really fast in the 2 eps so far. Plus they might go for a original anime ending that deviates from the novel/source material.

whelp, i finally watched it. it was fun but man, i am seriously getting Mahouka Tatsuya vibes out of the MC. the only difference, and also among other OP MCs, is that he's not out for honor or believes he's bound for something great. he just wants to pilot robots. thank veggies i'm used to those kinds of characters.(it helps that i watch LN anime adaptations for ehem..educational stuff.)

the designs of the mechs reminds me of an arcade shump. it has 3D graphics. the playable units, four of them, can switch between fighter and humanoid form. the former is your usual thing while the latter is for melees attacks.

anyone know played that game? and the name while were at it. :D

Episode 3 was good, sidelining monster hunting for tech building. Ernesti won the trust of a king, got permission to build, and then it turned into a Velocity Channel program. :) Good look at what passes for mecha tech, and a shape of things to come. Also, Helvi-senpai. 8)

Is it just me are the new mecha created in this episode looks like a Guncannon with those extra arms holding those staffs over the shoulders?

I am certain that is what is intended, albeit in a "weapon arm" extended mount instead of a heavier artillery mount.

I like the show so far... Thank God the third episode didn't slow down like normal mecha anime - guess it might be because of the short episode count.

My feeling is that Echeverría is going to end like FSS's Amateratsu of this realm: the main invincible character who designs godly machined because he is the author's proxy

Did anyone watch Episode Four yet? Looks like things are going to be heating up. Also when did they create more of the new Silhouette Knight? Thought they only had the one then we get three more in this episode popping up.

I actually don't know. Of course, I also don't know how much time has elapsed between episodes, so I just assumed that enough time had gone by between Eps 3 and 4 that they were able to build a handful of additional new units.

I do agree that things seem to be accelerating plot-wise. Can't wait to see where this goes next.

I'm enjoying the ride. This appears to be just a fun and short anime for mecha fans to watch Ernesti express our love for mecha and fulfill our dream of building one. There's not much deeper meaning to it, and I doubt there's supposed to be... all good. Episode 4 had me laughing with Dixgard's reactions. "There's more?"
