Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Theoretically, you could create thrust using the pressure of the particles coming out of the saber if the containment field is breached. Which, is what happens underwater, outside of Wing, which is why you see them hold the sabers against the target before igniting them. Though it would be akin to holding on to two bottle rockets, and hoping for the best, which Io' was pretty desperate when he tried it. The amount of mass, and drag on the Gundam in the water would make the results of doing such at thing though, next to nothing just like in the show.

how about that part where Io used the Beam sabers as a way to rise up?
That actually seems somewhat viable in that he's creating a hot area of water which will rise and take him along with it if nothing else. Not true "thrust" really, but given how beam sabers tend to flash heat water, it seems as plausible as anything else.

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

The whole "Newtype mind-control Oldtypes" makes me want to ask these two questions:

1. Are Oldtypes really justified in fearing and hating Newtypes?

2. How does the normal Federation citizen think of Newtypes? Or are they even aware of their existent?

Also, the scene where Bianca uses her rifle is kind of briliant, if you think about it - why did the federation outfit their pilot with a normal telescopic scope instead of a more compact electroptical sight? Because the rifle is inteded to both be a self-defence and a survival tool, and you are going to need both of the telescopic scope's magnification power and rudgedness.

I remember that in the manga, in so far it has been hinted that the reason why that monk guy from South Seas Alliance could seduce so many people, including former EFF and Zeon soldiers, to his side is thanks to the research into brainwave by that Sexton guy. Or am I mistaking it?

Well, I don't follow the manga (EXA and Super Class G Gundam already drain my budget). But I would like to guess that it isn't full mind control but rather something close to D&D's suggestion spell.

Woah! Two major updates on the leading ladies of this series. One has mentally regressed to a child and thinks her paramour is her father. I really don't know if I go through what Daryl is going through right now. The other lady looks to have joined a rebellious faction that is going to be fighting against the military she had once been fighting with. /shakes head/

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

The seventh OAV was definitely interesting! It is good to see Thunderbolt keeping up with the combination of gritty war story, UC-style adventure, and mecha porn.

Reborn Again: Karula, poor thing. She got the last-minute save, but in UC last-minute saves are never easy....or cheap.
Tin Man: Daryl, although his heart is not so much missing as hiding.
Cyber upgrade plz: Is it too much to get Daryl some arms with 5 fingers yet?
Best Girl: Bianca. That is all.
Angry Tech: Do not immediately smash your new MS and make your chief mecha tech angry!
Acguy Periscope: Yeah. 8) Now I want them to make a HG parts set.
Base Y'ha-nthlei: That was cool, even if I knew about it already.
Non-MInovsky weaponry: Isn't it great when the story actually plans it smart? :)
If it hadn't been for that damn kid: One day Zeon leaders will learn that to guarantee success, they will have to issue a kill order for every cute kid near the objective.
Frikkin' Newtypes: Gain psychic power! Save comrades and influence battles! Gain the respect and rank of Rodney Dangerfield!
Dead Chick Talking: WTH?!? She is dead! Io knows she is dead!! WTFH?!? (It's a great cliffhanger.)

But did she die in the first season. The last time we saw her she got ejected from the Beehive into space and not directly killed. My guess, is that she was recovered by the Monks that we see early in this season and she may have lost some memories or something. Maybe. I don't know.

Word, man. Io and the audience are in need of some answers, straight up! This cult with the big Feddy domain seems like they know a lot of stuff, are doing a lot of stuff, and no one seems to be keeping track of them.

Kuruni: It was a great song, sort of like a SE Asian meringue. Almost too upbeat to be a Gundam song.

Well, well now.

I hope this means a season 3 announcement is imminent. Definitely ended on a to-be-continued note.

I gotta say, I like the religious figure angle with the Newtype cult. Reminds me a little bit of Victory Gundam, with Queen Armonia.

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Wait. Is that it for Season 2?? Thought it be more then just a couple episodes. Also is it me or do the ships of Thunderbolt looked to be larger inside then outside. Just seemed like the hanger of the Spartan is far larger then what it looks to be from the outside.

I've had allot of issues like that all over the series. E.G Daryl's Zaku cockpit enter/exit compartment when switching pilots in S1.

Anyone here think that a single Newtype who could convert thousands of people to his religion is a bit of a stretch? I mean, sure, Newtypes can do some crazy thing, such as pushing away an asteroid, but to do so in a protracted period is absurd to me.

Problem with Acguy. Every time it perform like a badass, what follow will make it become a cute critter again. Of course, that doesn't make it a bad design at all, it's cute.

WHy not? RL cult leader like Shoko Asahara and Jim Jones can do it without actual psychic power at all. Surely some guy with telepathy and other mind trick can does better.

But that kid, he claimed at the end of the episode that he could hear the voice of the cult leader in his head (and the manga confirmed that this was the real thing and not imagined.) Hearing voice through the power of Newtypes is extremely rare and only occurred when the circumstances are just right (like two Newtypes being overwhelmed by strong emotions at the same time.)

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Actually not that rare, Amuro did it near the end of MSG. Receiving telepathy seem to be much easier than boardcasting.

The point is, you claim it's absurd for him to form a cult liek that. So I pointed out that it's happened IRL, by people without actual power even (unless you believe Asahara's anime...). We're talking about a character with real psychic power here, so it's actually much easier.
