Searching Mecha anime

But I'd say Godannar, as the main girl finds her mecha in a cave below the grave of her husband's dead girlfriend.

Gurren Lagann has s with extremely large zoinks as you called them. She doesn't discover the mecha in the cave, but she did end up in the cave and fighting along side with a young boy and another citizen of the underground city. They discover other beastmen, which basically the pilots are called in the series. I watched this whole series and would recomend it, even if it isn't the one you're looking for.

15 years ago, i was see a lionhead-in-chest robot on toystore's stand (I was not read it's name but all texts Japanese), I want find this series or robot's name. I'm sure for one thing : It's was absolutely not Voltron...
