Great discussion of the films.

@Chris, I think you mentioned you're tackling Stargate SG-1. Good for you. SG is one of my favorite TV sci-fi franchises. I am currently in the process of rewatching SG-1 on Amazon Prime and I will say, many of the eps in the first couple seasons are a bit rough, episodic, and clunky, and it's tempting to skip thru the bunch of them, but the small group of writers have done a fantastic job giving the series...and sequel series a strong sense of continuity and unfortunately most of the eps should be watched even to catch the little tidbits that are introduced and build to the ever-steadily building mythology of the SG fictional universe even if the story of a particular episode stinks. An episode in season 7 will build upon plot elements that may have appeared in seasons 2, 5,6 randomly, but the recaps at the start of each ep do a good job and reminding the viewer of those, at the time, seemingly inconsequential plot points of seasons past.

I also love the franchise because they establish ground rules for the fictional science of their world and for the most part, acknowledge and follow those rules pretty closely.

Re: Ep. 062: Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy

I love everything Edgar Wright has done. No qualifications, no complaints. The man has a sharp eye for cuts, great comedic chops and enough straight-up filmaking chops to sell the genres he's riffing on.

I met Shawn of the Dead when it made it to dvd, whereupon we watched it to death with every friend I had. Somewhere around the thirtieth viewing I thought I got sick of it. Then I watched it again it was still awesome.

I didn't have the same reservations Pedro and Chris had about Hot Fuzz, having gone back to his TV series Spaced, which features one of the most magnificently choreographed TV-grade gunfights to feature adults pointing fingers and yelling 'bang' en lieu of actual guns.

The reason I haven't watched The World's end 12 times already is because I got the bluray last week. I appreciate the casting switch with Pegg and Frost and the quasi-revival of Thatcher-era Gothpunk attitudes and its commentary on the commercialism of rural Britain.

PS: Scott Pilgrim is equally awesome and you should do a whole episode about it.

PPS: I heartily anticipate Walking Dead game club.

I haven't seen the 3rd movie yet but I own Shawn of the Dead and Hot Fuzz on dvd.

Did you guys see the comedy alien movie with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost? I think it was Paul or something.
