Kenji Kawai (00) or Hiroyuki Sawano (Unicorn)?

2. Have you guys seen Blue Gender? If so, what are your thoughts on the show?

3. How about Vandread?

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

HELLO!

Transformation & combination gimmicks have been a common element in mecha shows from Getter Robo to Macross and Gurren Lagann. Which combination or transformation gimmick do you guys each like the most? (I.e. time limits to maintaining combined form, mass shifting, shape memory alloys, etc)

p.s. It was a shame that the Celestial Being mobile suits never combined.

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Hey Gundam trio.
Time for a new mailbag entry from your 2nd most infamous Australian criminal.
(the 1st being Vent Noir)

This one is for the boss of Team Neo, Neo himself.
Neo since you now have moved to Anaheim Los Angles, did you find 'Anaheim Electronics' should go ask and if you can get a Gundam or Mobile Suit off them.

You have to get back in to space to hook up with, the remnants, of the remnants of Neo Zeon. :P (episode 50 callback to Neo's foreword to Gundam Unicorn episode 1 )

That is all I've got guys, thank you gentlemen.

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Dear Gundamm crew:

This question is sort of a followup to ep 103's segment on mecha in western media & video games AND the iron man film reviews (and maybe the Iron Man anime series as well).

How much do you feel the current aesthetic of Stark's armor and action scenes in the current comic books and this films have been influenced by manga and anime mecha style. While its hard to say with the comics, seeing the CG armor in action I can't imagine the designers and CG animators aren't anime influenced or even fans of the genre, given they are likely the right age to have grown up w such shows.

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Hello Gundamn crew, the following questions involve Bask Om, Katejina Loos, Gym Ghingham, Ali Al-sausage, and Decil.

1. Imagine walking into a bar and the only available seat is next to one of the character above, who would you sit next to? Walking out is not an option as doing so would be interpreted as an insult to all 5 of them and they would hunt you down to the end of the earth for the rest of your life.

2. If you can assign any mobile suit to the above characters and launch them in any battlefield/operation in any Gundam universe, what will you choose. It can be as crazy as putting Al-sausage in the Turn A and launch him in the final battle in G-Savior just for the lolz or putting Bask Om in Meer Campbell's pink zaku just so he could die in the most miserable way in the most miserable coffin ever.

Thanks guys and keep up the great work.

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Hey guys! Wow the episode that these questions are being read on was great. (I hope this ends up being true.)

1. Neo, since it has been said that you are the only big sports fan of the Gundamn! hosts, I am curious about what your favorite teams are.

2. Chris gets to play game show host on this one! This multiple choice question is for SoulBro.
Who is in King Arthur's court? (Note: we are talking about the actual King Arthur from the legends, not Saji. I know it can be confusing for you.)
Here are your options:
A. An Englishman.
B. Trolls.
C. Peter from Windsor.
D. A Connecticut Yankee.

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

I have one kinda complex question for you guys.

With the mecha genre in particular we're seeing a blend of traditional cel animation for characters and 3D CGI for the mecha, examples: Macross Frontier, Aquarion, and the new Code Geass OVA.

We've seen the Gundam franchise do an all or nothing approach to this with the mecha and characters being either cel (00, Seed, The show that shall not be named) or completely CGI (IGLOO).

Granted that Seed and 00 used CGI for their ships and Unicorn uses it for the Shambloo and the Unicorn's transformation, but we've never seen a true hybrid in the vain of Macross Frontier.

My question to you is when do you think we will get that hybrid Gundam show, or is something like this more likely to be a shorter OVA?

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Hello Gundamn! crew,

Last time I asked if you guys will do a Transformers round-up series (and coincidentally it was answered in the same episode with the Transformers Prime season 1 review :D). I will certainly settle with spotlights on Beast Wars, Animated, and future Prime seasons and Sir Bay movies, but will that include the controversial Beast Machines? It has divided opinions from fans, and I would like to hear your thoughts on this show. Personally, while it is not as good as Beast Wars, it had certain aspects that I enjoyed more. It is not the black stain of the franchise. That "honor" goes to Transformers: Energon, the Destiny of Transformers... Hell, even Destiny is better than Energon.

My friend also has a question while watching Project U.C. (just finished 0080). He noticed an inconsistency concerning the mobile suits’ thermonuclear reactors. In the very first episode of Mobile Suit Gundam, a big deal is made about the thermonuclear reactors powering the Zakus and how destructive it would be if hit. Throughout the rest of the series though, Zakus and other mobile suits are cut down like they are nothing, and no special attention is paid to their supposedly destructive capabilities if destroyed. In 08th MS Team, the same thing is brought up concerning the dangerous reactors and the care that must be taken to prevent a nuclear holocaust. However, this is only brought up at the end of the series after they’ve spent all the previous episodes, again, destroying Zakus with no particular concern. Is there an in-universe explanation for this inconsistency? If not, what do you believe is the reason for this back and forth portrayal of thermonuclear reactors?

BTW Soulbro, Beast Wars is on Netflix. Get on it.

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

This is in response to the video game console segment in episode 104.

Let's say you guys are right and Nintendo stops making consoles and focuses on software. (It would be so weird playing Mario or Zelda on Xbox...) It has been quite a while since there were less than three major consoles. Do you think someone else will jump in? What companies do you think are likely to do that?

And in response to the above post Beast Machines was awful. Even as a kid I knew that.

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Hey guys,
My brother has been watching Space Runaway Ideon recently, and has been really enjoying it, claiming that it is one of those animes that you don't quite see nowadays. I myself haven't watched it yet, but have heard of it, from for example you guys on the show. My question/request is: along with that request for the reviews of the MSG novels (unless you've decided not to do those) will you be doing a review, maybe a round-up, segment of Space Runaway Ideon, and its 2 movies?

Gundam has lasted for 33 years now; what original idea do you think they haven't done yet in terms of characters, concepts, settings, stories, shows, anything at all for the franchise? Follow-up: do you think they've ran out of ideas concerning the One Year War, for example from the mangas and games?

In your opinion; what is your example of someone whose love for Gundam, Mecha, Anime, was taken WAY TOO FAR in their lives?

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

I have to wonder if Tomino had the whole Newtypes not being the next evolution thing shown in Victory planned from the beginning of Gundam? My reason for thinking this is a line in an episode of the original MSG where Char says to Lala, "Newtypes are not ominescient, they may be merly sad human mutations awakened by war." On hearing that I have to ask myself how could powers awakend by WAR lead to ana ge of PEACE and understanding? Your thought?

P.S. Neo, I Am taking the fact that you did not even try to defend you Baye loving viewpoint to me during episode 100, as proff that you have no reason to like it, other then you jst like it. But don't feel bad, that is why many people live Evangelion after all. snicker

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Hey guys, so I have been doing some thinking after Playing Mass Effect and watching Gundam AGE. Since Level 5, a gaming company, teamed up with Sunrise to make the show and game, and there's gonna be a Mass Effect animated movie, I had this sort of fantasy about a Gundam Series or Game with Bioware working with Sunrise like how Level 5 did. If such a thing were to happen, what would your opinions on it be, what would your predictions be, and would you support it or be against it?

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

Good day, Gundamn.

Okay, for all three of the Gundamn guys: What do you think would you do if you woke up one day without your memories, and with adamantium skeletons, claws and healing factors? You all have dogtags that say "Gundamn!@MAHQ." You each remember your own names and one other.
Neo: Shuuichi Ikeda
Soulbro: Saji Crossroach (yes, Crossroach)
Chris: I can't think of one sooo... Nina Purpleton

second, just Neo: (Why do you hate Evangelion? No.) You wanna know how I got this job casting the news? See, Larry King was a sloucher, (thats an understatement) but one night he had been slouching more than usual. Mommy commented, so Larry King took his suspenders and cut mommy up with the clips! Then, he came to me, buckled the suspenders to my belt and asked me: "Why so illinformed?!"

A question: How do you think the various conflicts of the Universal Century would have played out had MSV and side-story characters and mobile suits teamed up on screen with their anime counterparts and fought their respective wars together? (It would become Gundam UC episode 4, but with the Federation.) When I first saw Char's Counter Attack I had wondered where all of the side-story suits and pilots were. I eventually came to the conclusion that whatever side-story suits that hadn't been destroyed were most-likely in the hands of AE, but what about all the talented (super) pilots we had been introduced to? While not an MSV Judau could have participated in the second Neo-Zeon war... he was turning the ZZ into the Gump, but where were all those MSV/side-story guys?

Also I had read somewhere that in the novelization "Beltorchika's Children" Amuro had requested the Zeta be brought out of storage, but was turned down... Because Anaheim kinda sucks.

So what, all these other pilots are just chilling somewhere watching these Neo-Zeon conflicts thinking to themselves: "You know, if I had been in animation I just might have been able to help, but I wasn't so I'm just gonna sit here and do nothing."

Same goes for characters who were in animation.

Is Asuna Elmarit of Ecole du Ciel a Soulbro's woman?

Similar: is Goof-Lebouf a Soulbro's man?

We all know how much Chris "LOVES" and "CHERISHES" the idea of live-action adaptations of anime. (You were more excited about G-saviour than Soulbro was about Origin, admit it.) That being (sarcastically) said, do you think that an expanded universe live-action VOTOMS could work? Within the mecha genre, I think that that is one of the only shows (expanded universe) which would work as a live-action move.

Lastly: Speaking of Chris' favorite type of movie, do the Gundamn guys think that a Big O live-action would work if William Shatner were to play Roger Smith? I can hear it now, a choir chanting: Paradigm Negotiator!

Re: Gundamn! Mailbag Drop Box

For the whole Gundamn! Trio: as you might have heard from San Diego Comic Con, Neil Blomkamp's upcoming film and followup to District 9 is called 'Elysium' and it has a pretty interesting premise, read this excerpt from the Wikipedia entry

"In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy "Coordinators," people who can afford bio-genetic engineering, who live on Elysium, a pristine man-made space station built by the Armadyne Corporation; and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth."

So yeah, I'm not saying Blomkamp is making some Gundam Seed homage or even is a fan of the show, but what an odd coincidence. Did you guys notice this?
