Round 2, Fight 3: Neo Norway vs. Neo Spain

NEO NORWAY vs. NEO SPAIN

It was high noon over Lake Superior, which would be the setting of the second round's third match. At with the Neo Vatican vs. Neo Liechtenstein fight in the last match, this one would be held on a large floating platform over the water.

The crowd was a mixed one. Of course supporters of both Neo Norway and Neo Spain came out in force to watch the fight, but locals of both terrestrial Neo America and terrestrial Neo Canada came to the shores for a good show.

The announcer boomed over the loudspeakers, "Ladies and gentlemen, we're gathered here to witness the third fight of the Gundam Fight finals' second round! I can guarantee this will be one to remember!

"On one side, we have Neo Norway's Odin Gundam, with Odel Trygvason at the helm!" As Neo Norway's supporters cheered, the announcer went on, "Surely Odel hopes to continue his winning streak after his victory against Neo France in the previous round! Let's see if he can pull it off again!"

"On the other side, we have Neo Spain's Gundam Don Quixote, with Juan Santiago de Compostela!" the announcer had intentionally shortened the cumbersome name, though not without irking Fernando to a small degree. "Neo Spain," continued the announcer over the Neo Spaniards' louad support, "Didn't fare well last round against Neo Brazil, so we'll see if he can turn his luck around in this match!"

"And now, let the fighters enter the arena and signal readiness to the refs!"

(No breaks for Norwegians, huh?)

As the Norwegian audience cheered him on, Odel raised his arms into the air and pointed across the arena at where the Neo-Spain Gundam would be in an effort to say, "You next."

Odel signaled he was ready and prepared to go to town. His Odin was equipped with the shield, the MG, and the bazooka as always. However, Odel didn't intend to use them that much in this round.

Juan Fernando Alvarez Santiago de Compostela III, clad in his mobile trace suit, stepped with purpose into the gaping hatch of his Gundam. "Remember, Juan!" shouted Sancho from the floor, "The Odin Gundam is a heavy fighter, so use your comparitively high speed and agility to your advantage, but do not underestimate! It may be slow, but the Odin Gundam has thick armor and attacks so powerful he might be able to knock you out with a single blow!" As the hatch closed with no reply from Fernando, Sancho slouched into a nearby seat and took a swig of liquor. "Jesucrísto, I hope he doesn't make a fool of himself like he did against the Brazilian." Once again, Princess Constanza was among those watching. "Among", of course, is an inaccurate word, because she was by no means near the common folk in the general audience but rather in her own private airship.

The Gundam Don Quixote strode regally into the arena, matador cape flying and deactivated beam lance clutched in the right hand. He came to a stop at a good distance and swept back his left leg to assume a tall readiness stance, with his still-cold beam lance aimed straight at his Norwegian opponent.

"Now," he said with powerful emotion, "I shall slay this dragon!"

"Dragon huh? Shouldn't he be saying that to Neo-China's Fighter?" Odel said as the Don Quixote Gundam appeared on the platform. Margit and Peter's faces appeared on opposite sides of the cockpit. "He has a point though," said Margit,"the Odin's strong enough to take out the Quixote in one or two good blows, so try not to drag this one out." Odel nodded and took up a fighting stance, ready for the battle.

(OOC: I said it might happen, and it did.)

The Neo Spain judge found himself once again in a somewhat cramped arena. However, unlike last time in a crowded city, here he could move out of the way of the fighters much easier. His mech had also been waterproofed in case the fighters went into the frigid waters of the lake.

Before the match, he had also been reminded to remain objective as he shared the national heritage as one of the fighters in the fight he was watching. After assuring the officials that he would remain impartial, he was allowed into the fight area.

Seeing as both fighters were now ready, the Neo Spaniard shouted "GUNDAM FIGHT... RRRREADY... GO!"

At the sound of the ref Odel took off running towards the Quixote. He fired all off the Odin's chest and head mounted guns at it as a distraction. Odel lashed out with the heat whip and let out a battle cry, "AAAAAAAAAH!"

The dragon wasted no time charging at Fernando, who'd activated his beam lance. At once, he had to leap up high and slightly to the right as the dragon opened fire with a multitude of mounted weapons. By doing this, Fernando also escaped being hit by the heat whip.

Fernando landed several dozen meters off to the dragon's left. His landing had resulted in somewhat of a crouch, from which he immediately launched himself upward. At the apex of the jump he, with assistance from his thrusters, shot himself toward the dragon, all the while with the beam lance held forward to thrust.

Odel jumped away from the Spainiard as the Quixote came crashing down. He grabbed a beam axe and lashed out with the whip before strafing around to the right of the Quixote. As he did, he opened fire with the vulcans again.

The Gundam Don Quixote met empty ground at the end of its attack, leaving it in a half-crouch to absorb the impact of its landing.

The Odin Gundam was quick for such a heavy unit, Fernando noted. It was able to evade the thrust by jumping away and almost imemdiately retaliated with, once again, a combination of the heat whip and mounted vulcans.

Fernando knew he wouldn't he able to evade this one so easily from the position, so he brought up his shield and advanced forth. The heat whip bit into the shield, lopping off part of the back end (the part closer to the elbow) and sending painful sensations in Fernando's forearm. The vulcan rounds impacted on various parts all over the Gundam, giving Fernando a feeling of small hot pokers all over the front end of his body.

Gritting his teeth, Fernando no less sallied forth, dashing at his opponent to thrust with the beam lance once again. The shield arm was still up, covering much of his Gundam's head and leaving only enough exposed for him to see.

Odel jumped to the side to avoid the beam lance, but it scraped along his suit's elbow and chest armor, leaving a painful burning sensation across Odel's body.

Gritting his teeth through the pain, Odel brought up his shield to smash the Quixote's head as it passed by, and at the same time grabbed at his opponent's shield in an effort to rip it away from his foe.

The Odin Gundam just narrowly avoided Fernando's most recent advance, then followed up with an attempt at a shield smash. The Norwegian's shield crashed against Fernando's, sending the mugh lighter Gundam Don Quixote staggering back.

The staggering was brief, however, for during the shield smash Odel had managed to get a grip on the edge of Fernando's shield and was clearly trying to take it away. Fernando immediately dropped his beam lance, thus deactivating the weapon and reducing it to the oversized beam saber handle it was. The Spaniard then reached for the Tizona at his hip and not only drew it, but in the same motion lashed out at his opponent's thighs in an effort to drive him away and get some breathing space. The Tizona heated up in mid-slash.

"Ahh," Odel gasped as the Quixote attacked his thighs with its Tizona. He skipped back a bit, sacrificing his hold on the shield to keep himself from getting nailed by the heat Tizona. Odel attacked the Quixote with his heat whip, aiming to wrap it around the Quixote's right arm.

The Odin Gundam stepped back and loosened its grip on the Gundam Don Quixote's shield. Fernando wasted no time in stepping forward with an aggresive, one-handed overhead swing aimed at the general -head-and-shoulders area of his opponent. Fernando did this while pulling himself forward, so to speak, with the shield arm that Odel was still gripping.

But in the process the Norwegian lashed out with the heat whip once again. Because of Fernando's change in motion, the foe wasn't able to get the right arm as he'd intended, but the heated weapon did sting deeply into the side of the Spaniard's torso. The light armor there melted away easily, and burning pain hammered Fernando's side as his mobile trace gave feedback. Regardless, he carried through with the attack.

Odel had the Odin move its head to the side, so that the Tizona just barely missed it. However, it bit into his thick shoulder armor, coming dangerously close to the shoulder joint. Odel went into a crouch and pulled back on the heat whip after it wrapped itself around the Quixote.

He opened fire with his vulcans and grabbed a beam axe. The Odin made one vertical slice, followe dby a quick horizontal slash aimed at the Quixote's skirt armor and leg joints.

Fernando found a new appreciation for just how thick the dragon's armor was. He wouldn't have been surprised if he were told that the Odin Gundam had the thickest armor among those Gundams that reached the finals.

Fernando pulled his Tizona out of his opponent's shoulder - an action made easier by the fact that Odel chose to crouch at the same time. Then the heat whip was retracted, leaving a nasty gout in the thin armor along the Gundam Don Quixote's midsection.

In pain, Fernando could think only of disengaging to get some room to breath. From his crouching position, Odel fired a flury of vulcan rounds while swingin a beam axe. Fernando brought up his gnarled shield once again, but the dragon's initial vertical chop lopped off the very tip at the end. As a result, the Gundam Don Quixote's left hand was chopped in half just below the row of knuckles, removing all the digits save for the thumb. Fernando cried out in pain, but his hurried backward retreat saved him from being hit at all by the horizontal follow-up slash.

Using his Gundam's speed and nimbleness, Fernando bounded away from the Odin Gundam. He'd struck a rather sound blow to the dragon's shoulder, but it appeared the exchange had been moreso in the Norwegian's favor. Gritting his teeth over the pain in his midsection and left hand, Fernando retreated until he was almost at the edge of the large platform over Lake Superior.

"This dragon is fearsome indeed," he muttered, "But gallantry and valor will always prevail over such beasts."

He remained at the edge, waiting to see what his opponent would do so he could find a good opening for a more advantageous close encounter.

Odel let out a shout of jubilation when he saw that he'd damaged the Quixote enough to make Fernando retreat. "I'm gonna end this right now!" he said as he grabbed the bazooka from the Odin's backpack and fired off two shells.

Lowering the bazooka, Odel moved the damaged shoulder, checking to see if anything was damaged. Aside from a faint, burning pain from where the Tizona had bit into the armor, the joint was fine.

"Spaniard, you bit of more than you could chew when you tried to fight me."

The Odin Gundam retaliated with two bazooka shots. Instantly, Fernando sprinted his Gundam forward a step, then used the second step to spring himself upward into a high leap. The bazooka shells slammed into the ground, leaving a ragged hole in the floor of the platform - a hole right into the lake's waters below. Being busy with his leap, though, Fernando remained unaware of this effect.

Still in midair, Fernando grabbed his matador heavy cape with his left hand; it was more a pincer grab with his thumb against his palm, actually, as the other fingers had all been severed. It served to keep the cape clutched and ready to toss.

Fernando landed, having cleared half the distance between where the bazooka shells landed and where the Norwegian stood. From that landing, Fernando bounded forward at his opponent with the Tizona held low.

As the Spaniard charged him, Odel fired three bazooka shells at his enemy. Strafing to the right, the Odin emptied the bazooka's remaining two shells at the Quixote.

Dropping the bazooka, Odel activated a beam axe and crouched into a defensive position. He fired a barrage of head vulcans at Fernando in an attempt to get him riled up.

The Odin Gundam's last two shells both hit the Gundam Don Quixote's right shoulder at an oblique angle; in such a way that they deflected without detonating, though they left an unsightly dent in the shoulder armor and a blunt pain through Fernando's mobile trace. The Spanish Gundam was hit in mid-bound, upsetting the midair path and sending it into a midair spin and a descent deeper than originally intended. Fernando made a hard landing on his knees several dozen meters in front of his vulcan-spewing opponent.

The Spaniard scrambled to his feet, hurriedly hurling his heavy cape at the dragon while advancing behind it, right hand reared back for a one-handed Tizona thrust in hopes that the cape would take his opponent would be taken off-balance, even if only for a heartbeat.

Odel was caught of guard when the Spaniard's cape wrapped around his Gundam's chest, restricting its movement. The Norseman struggled to get free before finally ripping a tear in the heavy cape with his beam axe.

Odel tore the remaining pieces of the cape off of the Gundam and raised its beam axe to chop the Quixote in half once he got in range. Odel charged the Spainiard, spewing the few remaining machinegun rounds at his opponent.
