For those of you living in Florida, stay up late tonight as you'll see something rare and spectacular. Space Shuttle Endeavour is launching at 2:28 am EST tonight and I'll be out at The Kennedy Space Center Vehicle Assembly Building to watch it. Since it's a night launch, it should be visible to almost all of Florida and if it's clear enough, some of the closer states as well, along the far horizon.
It has some relevance to us here on MechaTalk as Endeavour is carrying what could very accurately be called a Mech that will be installed on the end of CanadaArm2. It looks kinda like a legless robot. So you Canucks on the boards, be proud of the Canadian Space Agency's contribution to the International Space Station. Also the first module of the Japanese, JAXA module, Kibo (Hope), will be installed on this mission. I know that the Japanese have been waiting a long time for this.
For more info, look the mission up on Space.com
Godspeed the crew of STS-123!
