I have to say, after seeing this thread on /m/ and then going to the site, I was instantly hooked and SOO wanted one..I still do ;_;
Sucky thing though, is that it is apparently too advanced to mass produce and therefore expensive. But that didn't stop those college kids from doing a few experiments with it..
Epic Win for the ages?

*Wedge14 imagines having one of these guys sitting on his drum kit or his half stack. Has a pleasure overload and dies*
*Someone eventually casts life3 though.*
So are you saying i can't get one of these guys?? Because thats the worse news i've ever heard since, "You'll never be able to enjoy canned ham ever again"

According to the students that did the tests, they had to borrow the creator's copy for the experiments..(I think). Either way, they say it's too expensive to mass produce and also too advanced to attempt such a feat.
Therefore it's going to be a while before those things become the next Tickle-me Elmo at Christmas. And undoubtedly, it would..especially for us Mecha-heads.
EDIT: Upon further examination of some related articles linked from the site, it appears that the Keepon might be as advanced as the afore mentioned Tickle Elmo doll, but with a more advanced motion sensing and recognition software system. This may be why some believe that it could get pricey to mass produce it, though it's not as far off as I originally thought.
Cute little bugger though.

I'd take a simplified one, without all the fancy pants cameras and just the dancing powers. I'm not really interested in the whole mecha aspect, just a cute lil guy who'll dance to my jams!!
It reminds me of those novelty dancing beer cans everyone's crazy uncle owns.

Wow that's pretty cool. I expect that in a few years, the technology will be there to mass produce them. They may be pricey for a while, but in 10 years or less, they'll be in every home, well at least many homes.
