Since Gundam has inspired a lot of children to go after a life in Science and Technology, a lot of them walked the path of Space and Robotic technologies. With the help of these Gundam fans which became professionals, they are now examining the Science behind the scenes of Gundam the Origin with the latest technology and see if they can reproduce the same effects in space.
With the Japanese equivalent of NASA, JAXA.
And yes, we all know that JAXA is just a bunch of Gundam fans(ok, also Star Wars and Space Battleship Yamato fans)
They like to take pictures of the ISS with the 1:1 Gundam.(alright, this is just some civilian submission)
