Just how fast can that little Salamis go?

To answer Rex's question about which is the fastest EF ship, at least during the OYW, here's an extract of the White Base's story from Mark's site:

The basic engines consisted of two units with a cruising output of 32,000 tons apiece, as well as a field propulsion system which applied the Minovsky craft principle. The regular engines were similar in principle to those of Magellan- and Salamis-class warships, but their far higher output made it possible to escape the atmosphere without supplemental boosters.

So basically the White Base has such high output that it may be comparable to a Salamis or Magellan equipped with boosters for launching into space.

Hey, I want to apologize. School has kept me busy.. but Spring Break has arrived!

I often wondered how much extra propulsion the minovsky craft provides the White Base. It seems extremely agile and fast despite being so big compared to other EFF vessels.

I guess the answer is "A lot!"

I'll get around to responding to the previous posts in a while, maybe later today. Just didn't want you think I dropped off the face of the planet or got huffy over simple disagreements and such.

Have a good day, folks!

The WB's M-craft can lift it up to a height of somewhere around 50~100m with an indefinite amount of time, and can basically launch the WB to orbit if you add its thrusters.
The displacement is 32000t, you can calculate its required lift to stay afloat at that level.

Just for the record, I should point out that nearly all warships would look speedy and maneuverable compared to Jotunheim, a converted bulk freighter that is in great danger without an escort, or enough combat range to be able to lurch away from the oncoming enemy.

Re: Just how fast can that little Salamis go?

I'm back! Life just kind of.. whisked me away, and since getting in to summer classes for programming, I've been even more busy.

So, with Gundam Origin out we're getting to see a lot more of the OYW ships. There are some slight spoilers below so if you haven't watched it yet, here's your warning.

One thing of note is that the Chivvay definitely appeared to be capable of superior acceleration to the Musai.

However, more on the topic of the Salamis, we have a scene where one crashes in to another ship (Were the Musai originally commissioned as cargo vessels? That looked like a Musai). Important thing to notice here is the rate at which it can change direction, slow down, and so on.

This is considerably toned down from the agility displayed in MS IGLOO which at this point I really have to concede on. But I was curious about what you guys think about the Salamis' new, more modest agility? Any hard numbers we can get from that? Does it seem more realistic? How does everyone else feel about this important scene?

Let me put it this way, if the ships move at an acceleration of over 0.5g(about 5m/s^2, or moved about 2.5m at the first second of its acceleration, that is, 3.6% of the Salamis width or 4% of its height)
or turn at a rate of something like 4s for 180 degrees,
their spec will be too significant for the MSs to outperform purely by agility.
(Considering MS-06 only has 0.59g and 1.7s/180degree)

So anything noticeable at acceleration or turning would mean MSs should not exist or at least has a very very hard time in surviving.

I'm going to be honest, Myth, most depictions of the Zaku seem to depict it as being faster than that. I think, this is one of those cases where the numbers need to be rewritten.

I am pretty certain that we've even seen some of the ships do better than this, especially White Base.
