I guess, but that would just be one person's opinion.

The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Mecha Thread Mk I
Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Mecha Thread Mk I
To be totally honest, I thought the vastly different MS design, with an apparent focus on being more "hard sci-fi", made it an AU; never read any interviews with the creator. But if it's not, it's not.
I'm more bothered by the fact that authors are unable or unwilling to get away from the One-Year War; I swear that at this point, thanks to all these manga and novels and games, something of significance happens on every single day of the year in UC 0079.

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Mecha Thread Mk I
I've always wondered if the OYW is popular with the younger fans in Japan or it only gets milked for the sake of the old gunota.
The GM sans the added apogee motors per official lineart could pass as the IGLOO version GM and fit design-wise but the profile only mention as differences the head sensor, joint covers and large backpack. The FA Gundam has a different model number from the MSVs and could work as the first model of that line customized for the Thunderbolt sector, but this isn't mentioned in the official profile.
The problem is the story, with things like a Zeong production line in A Baoa Qu, evil buddhist monks taking over a large portion of Earth after OYW and Zeon capturing a Gundam.
The only character from 0079 shown is Degwin in a picture. No other ties, the 0080 arc is completely new.

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Mecha Thread Mk I
There is also one more interesting change to the GM, it has an escape system - a detachable core block system. This was mentioned on the official site, but i don't think it was stated in the HG manual.balofo wrote: The GM sans the added apogee motors per official lineart could pass as the IGLOO version GM and fit design-wise but the profile only mention as differences the head sensor, joint covers and large backpack.

Do you think the same thing will happen when Crossbone Gundam finally gets an official adaption about whether or not it counts as canon, au, or do-as-you-will to the fandom at large?balofo wrote:So I can call Thunderbolt and Origin AU UC since there's no official statament

Crossbone, Blue Destiny, AOZ, 0081 Senki all were part of the HGUC line. I guess they consider them part of the main UC timeline unlike Origin and Thunderbolt.

Except your forgot that Gihren makes an appearance.balofo wrote:The only character from 0079 shown is Degwin in a picture. No other ties, the 0080 arc is completely new.
If this is going to be another series you're just going to complain about, balofo, then don't watch it. It's perfectly enjoyable in its own right regardless of what transpires in it.

For mechanics so far, is there any original information for the anime production? Or should we just cut and paste the HGUC kit information?

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Mecha Thread Mk I
So, looking over the first three minutes of the first episode, am I the only one surprised by the sheer amount of hardware being deployed? We see a single Columbus-class (I think?) with five Salamis escorts at about the 1:00 mark. It's hard to get an exact count of the number of GMs, but we see them arrayed in six lines (two columns of three rows) repeatedly, and when they're launching (at around 3:30) we see that what appears to be four lines of four GMs each, though this is in the middle of the launch process and there's room for two more lines (which would match the 3x2 arrangement seen earlier) in the middle.
So that would be six entire four-unit MS Teams (or 24 GMs total)... and that appears to be just one of the four hangers/launch bays, and they're deploying from at least two of them.
Even if we take the absolute minimum number of GMs confirmed, it's still 15 of them (and we can probably bump that up to 16, for four full teams), which is still a lot, especially for what's supposed to be a backwater theater of operations.

That was great! The animation is of course superb as it would be for the budget. However, I don't want to sell it short on style, because that is a big part of what makes the visuals so interesting thus far. Loving the character design, which reminds me of Amano's work in some respects. The mechanical design is also really fun; a detailed refinement of many of the classic mobile suits. The story is intriguing and like so much of Gundam, has already setup a tale to tell two sides of the war story. The music - which I loved in the trailer but wasn't sure I'd like in the show - has proved an indispensible part of the narrative and for setting the tone of the series. It was strange the numerous wounded soldiers shown with missing/replacement limbs
Well, I was excited for this one before and now having seen this episode I'm fully on board. This first show is already far superior to Gundam Unicorn and has setup a much more interesting story with more nuanced characters. I can't wait to see more.

At one point in the long episode the long-haired EFSF officer gives a count of 24 GMs. The carrier seems to be equipped to rapidly launch its complement of MS from multiple catapults, and the sortie definitely is out of the carrier and advancing without any time-consuming assembly phase. It is a reasonable course of action, and reinforces the mobile part of Mobile Suit.Brave Fencer Kirby wrote:So that would be six entire four-unit MS Teams (or 24 GMs total)... and that appears to be just one of the four hangers/launch bays, and they're deploying from at least two of them.

On the technical side of things, the amount of work put into the space environment for man and machine continues to be excellent! The use of the micro-manipulators in a debris field fully justifies the design quirk. For the OYW the Thunderbolt Sector MS have a lot of verniers as well. It would not be unreasonable to have an active but static front used to test new technology that will be more commonly used later in UC. In turn that explains why the Zeon force has civilian engineers, and the EFSF force receives a Gundam.
