Few other works like Gundam Unicorn(Geara Zulu) and Gundam Build Fighters(Zaku Tank) have shown this configuration. Upon closer inspection I noticed that at least one of the Black Tri-Stars High Mobility Zaku's uses this setup, since they cant mount them on their bulky legs, this allows the High Mobilty Zaku's to use them.
Actually those are spare ammo for the bazooka

oops my mistake, although mounting the missile pods on the High Mobility Zaku II's shoulder shield is still a good idea.

I always wonder. Those Bazookas with the 3-tube reloads, were those supposed to be nukes?

So I wasn't wrong when I called the Lepanto UC's answer to the Drake Class then? Granted the Lepanto is a bit more heavily armed then the Drake but still.

Yamane did the Guntank, all the aircraft before the advent of MS, armored vehicles, civilian vehicles and some ships.

Next we will know what Akitaka did

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Mecha Thread Mk I

Well, the animated version decided to use Conscon's ship:

http://www.gundam.info/uploads/image/20 ... -75638.jpg
http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/gun ... 0614133408

The characteristics of this version are: triple turrets for the guns on top of the ship aiming to the front and rear respectively, double turrets for the guns on the sides right below the bridge and single turrets for the side guns on the engine block aiming to the rear. It also seems to have 8 machine gun turrets and 8 missile launchers. However, my biggest concern is the catapult doors: the central section of the anime version seems to be fixed, with makes me think that the doors are supposed to open in a similar fashion to the Tivvay's:

http://www.gundamuniverse.it/immagini%2 ... /MS110.jpg

One other detail that caught my attention was the lack of the 10 regular-sized misile launchers on the basic Musai (16 after the MS Igloo retcon, which was passed on to Unicorn's version of the Musai Kai):

http://www.gundam.info/uploads/image/20 ... -10030.jpg

It only has the two single large-sized missile launchers (the Gundam novels identify the particular missiles fired from these as TAM missiles). On the other hand, Origin's Musai Kai do includes at least 3 regular-sized missile launchers:

http://www.gundam.info/uploads/image/20 ... -51299.jpg

I do suspect that those small but long rectangular openings might be for small missile launchers. IIRC, in the original TV series and movies, some Musais do were shown firing missiles at odd angles seemingly acting as anti-air defenses. They even resemble similar openings on the same spots on the Musai Final Production Type:

Life is so much easier when they leave the mech designer signature on the lineart sheets!

What each mech designer did for OVA 1:
-Katoki: All Zakus, including cockpit and weapons
-Yamane: Guntank(including details and cockpit), Armored Bus, Armored Vehicle, Type 61 MBT, Chibe
-Akitaka: Salamis, Magellan, Lepanto, both Musais

That leaves the Ocean Cargo ship, Saberfish and Columbus with no clear ownership. Beecraft is also credited for mechanical design but none of these fit his style

What the heck did you do to that first Saberfish pic?

Also, it's "Chivvay". :P

Nice batch of lineart...
Interestingly, one of the depicted Columbus classes modified into an aircarrier is named Shark Bay, a unit which - as far as I recall - was never mentioned before.

Huh... they changed part of the verniers on the front of the Columbus... 0_o Looks like it still retains the landing gear though too...

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Mecha Thread Mk I

Nothing interesting the MS-06S manual besides the Bazooka using A2 type ammo and the mention that the C and F type Zaku IIs only have 1 vulcan or none on the chest(trying to make sense of the manga depiction).

No weight data at all.

Wow, those Prototype Goufs look awesome! Are they gonna be in The Origin anime?

Doesn't seem like it. The HG manual (01/02/03) mentions that the existence of the Prototype Gouf was discovered (hence the name) as part of a research project undertaken by Anaheim Electronics in U.C.0082 to learn about technologies used by rival companies like Zeonic previous to their acquisition by AE. It is based upon interviews with engineers, documents and video footage.

Another thing that surprises me: apparently, the next MSV is going to be MS-03 (silhouette matches the one on the official website). However, that shape doesn't really look like the Okawara design. While the right arm seems to retain the modular forearm, the shoulders and legs don't look like it. More than anything, the wide lower legs remind me a lot more to the Zaku II RD-4, the Dom testbed that Aina piloted in the first episode of The 08th MS Team.

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Mecha Thread Mk I

Quick question, if anyone knew....

In light of the Dozle's customized, uber-super-light cruiser Valkyrie, of which a model just got announced via the Cosmo Fleet series (which means they've been hyping it up), WTF ever happened to it?

Also, were there any confirmed Chivvay cruiser names, other then Kycilia's Purple Widow, and Conscon's Red Viscount?

Question.

Is there any different between FF-3F and the good old FF-3/FF-S3? (other than visual, that is)

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Mecha Thread Mk I

The events in The Origin (and MSD) change Mark's development timeline quite a lot. For starters, the initial deployment date of the Zaku II High Mobility Type gets moved way back, from June to January. It would also mean that it never was a competitor against the Dom, but a complement for the standard Zaku line, developed in tandem with the baseline unit.

This might serve to explain the flowchart in the MSD site (I added the Prototype Dom done by Katoki for his Zeonography line, for reference). Also, we can use Mark's theory that MS-03's design --with the wide bell-bottoms-- might be the common ancestor for the Zaku and Dom models.
