- Beta Team -

Sven didn’t stop holding his breath until his Marasai sailed past the traitors Rick Dias unmolested. His mouth tasted of bile, and the smell of his own sweat overwhelmed him. Feeding more power to his main thrusters Sven’s Marasai roared to life and took off in the direction of Wolf’s Marasai. Flicking a switch his beam saber flickered off; but he kept it ready in his left hand. Firing off his thrusters he maneuvered into an interception course with Wolf, who was moving along a perpendicular course from Sven’s. Given a moments rest from impending death Sven minds quickly raced through his near encyclopedic knowledge of the Ritter supporters. Nowhere in his memory could he remember hearing of a man called Ashlyn. If this man knew Wolf, he must have been very close to the top, and men were not close to the top unless they had very valuable skills.

A window opened up on his HUD showing the two enemy Rick Diases pursuing him, an explosion in the background marked the end of one of the Hizacks. Huh, I guess he was taunting me then, he doesn’t want Wolf to know, he wants me dead. A second window popped up showing two more Hizacks oncoming from the front and left of Sven towards the Rick Diases. A slow smile spread across Sven’s, the two Diases would be surrounded soon, and with Wolf’s assistance they should be able to end the traitor here and now. Maneuvering his Marasai into a classic Zaku II pose Sven continued on his course toward Wolf’s Marasai, except he rolled his Marasai so he was able to aim his beam rifle at the pursuing Diases using his secondary cameras. Still racing towards Wolf, Sven broadcasted on his team frequency hoping his message would reach both Wolf and Ashlyn, “Ashlyn is it? Fate has smiled kindly on you so far today, but let us see how a traitor faces his Destiny.” He accented his threat by firing his beam rifle twice at the traitor.

-Kenneth Graden-

"understood" Despite the chaos on the bridge Graden manged to sort out their orders as such he began to act on them. remaining I Mobile Armor form Graden put himself on an intercept course as he tried contacting the rest of the team He didn't know if they would hear him in this Minovsky soup.

"Attention Bindra team, Prepare to intercept the AEUG MS but do not attack until specific orders are given."

He repeated this mess age a few times hoping that if they didn't hear all of it the furst time they could piece it together,

-Rick Archer-

Rick accelerated and covered the Nemo's chest with his shield. As he passed through the place Alex had fired three shots impacted the shield and a fourth grazed the shoulder. While Rick passed through the fire his saber flicked off and was returned to it's storage rack in exchange for his rifle. Turning the Nemo while still moving sideways Rick fired 3 shots; one behind, one dead on and one in front of Alex Lepac

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

-Team 2-

The C-Type equipment had failed Ian once again. It was too heavy. The loss of the normal binder reduced the machines excellent mobility just too much. Ian had spun, but the Marasai, which normally wasn't as good as a Rick Dias, but again, Ian bitterly knew he wasn't in a normal MSA-099, had spun to Ians left. A pair of beams came from that first Marasai, Ian couldn't remember if he had caused it any damage or not, and they weren't close, but their purpose was obvious, and they served it as the second Marasai, the one with the weird marking which Greydon still wasn't sure of, raced in and stabbed with its beam saber.

The saber pierced the 240mm cannon right where it was fed from its twenty-shot clip, burned clean through and began to enter the chest. Ian had already fired a number of the shots, but the saber still ignited several of the 240s that remained. Before the Marasai could fully complete its stab, which likely would have gone clean through the torso of the Rick Dias, two of those shells exploded, knocking the Rick Dias away from the Marasai all of four seconds after the saber hit the Dias.

The two shells that had knocked the Rick Dias away had sent fragments of metal into the random binder and carved a notable hole in the right side of the Rick Dias' torso and taking off the right arm. The binder exploded a second later, further wrecking the back and left side of the machine, and although the arm was not blown away, all connections with it failed, leaving the arm useless. Another 240mm shell exploded two seconds after that. This one wiped out whatever remained on the back, including the beam saber mount and the sole beam pistol mount from the C-Type, as well as seperating the pesky cannon pack, which went flying into space, shells still cooking off. More damage was done to the torso and all of the electronic systems inside of it. The balancing system was totally overwhelmed, with a number of its sensors destroyed or damaged to various degrees, and control of the machine was lost. The data recorders were totally destroyed, as were most of the cameras that provided the suit with its 360 view from the cockpit.

Not that Ian could see it. He had felt the stab from the Marasai. He had tried to move, how he would not remember, but when the first explosions had occured, Ians head had slammed into his seat and given him a concussion. Dazed and his senses dulled, the series of explosions that followed were little more than a series of thuds to Ian Greydon, as was the series of explosions that occured in the cockpit. Half of the monitors on his right side exploded, showering him with fragments that Ian saw hit his arms more than felt. There was another explosion on his left side. Ian saw flames and chunks of Gundarium armor fly around, but again, didn't feel a thing, which was certainly better for him.

The machine stopped shaking and settled down. Ian lost track of time. How long ago had his Rick Dias been hit by that beam saber? A minute? Even that? Ian didn't know. He looked around the cockpit, but there was little to view. Only a third of the monitors even worked, and most of those displayed static. One, above to his left, showed stars and distant combat, but the image was fuzzy. Globs of blood caught his attention. His right arm was peppered with little peices of metal and monitor. There was more blood coming from his legs. Ian leaned in his seat to look around the controls, and lost his breath. His left leg had a chunk of metal the size of a fist just below his knee. Only then did Ian Greydon relize he couldn't feel anything below his left thigh. Ian stammered a few words to himself, and passed out.

Eckardy, Hamilton, and the Nemos had seen the attack unfold. They all saw the Rick Dias spin away, explosions doing massive damage. As soon as Ian had been clear, however, the six mobile suit all began opening fire. Eddie and Marvin, both armed with two beam weapons, fired a few blasts toward the pair of Marasias before moving toward Ians blasted Dias. The four Nemos, all with their shields and beam rifles up, moved toward the Marasais, pumping beam fire into the area from max range.

Eddie cursed to himself as he and Marvin found the shattered Dias. Eddie tried to radio, but go no response, nor did skin talk. Eddie's Dias reached over to talk to Marvin. "We're talking him back."

"Roger," was the emotionless reply from Cowboy.

Grabbing the damaged Dias as gently as two 18-meter tall war machines could, Eddie and Cowboy started back toward the Dervish at the best speed they could, which wasn't very fast. Both feared that Ians suit might simply fall apart, and it would be a long several minutes before they even entered comm range...

-Balrampur Team-
-P Field-

Johnathon's preemptive actions were helpful, if he had been still he likely would have had troubles dodging the fire from Court's Hizack. "Not much I can do here," Johnathon blurted out, his Nemo continuing in its path around the Hizack. The few bullets that hit did ignorable damage to the shoulder and shield of the Nemo. One more shot fired in the direction of the Hizack, and Johnathon pulled the Nemo strongly, pushing him back in his seat. He was closing in on Court and put away his beam rifle, drawing both beam sabres from their resting spot on the Nemo's back skirt armour. Even though he couldn't control his shield as well, and he was fairly open to attack as he closed in, Johnathon had confidence in the abilities of himself and the Nemo.

- Leaving P-Field -
- Adam Trask -

Eventually, Adam caught sight of the Hamburg, and as the Minovsky particles thinned so too did more and more of the sensors. Beginning preparations for landing, Adam used the thrusters on the base of the feet to slow down the Nemo's flight. Making a minor course correction, he attempted to contact the ship via his radio.

"Hamburg, this is Lt. Adam Trask. I'm coming in for resupply. I reapeat this is Adam Trask. I am returning for resupply."

Zeroing in on the top deck of the Salamis-class, Adam made his final approach, slowing down even further using the verniers and thrusters.

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

- Gate of Zedan, P Field -

- The Kirov -
- Bridge -

“I don’t care!” Gojiro snapped back at the skipper of one of the fleeing vessels, agitated at the barrage of radio traffic that the Kirov was receiving. After the first Columbus transport had been sunk by the 4th’s missile barrage, every ship in the immediate area had turned to put Echo between them and the AEUG and were slowing down the evacuation. “Now please, join the main group of ships leaving the area and move away from the Kirov!” he insisted, switching to a new contact before the previous ship’s captain could respond. The longer they stayed where they were, the more appealing it would be to the rebels to launch missiles again. He took a moment to lean back in his seat to glance up at the bank of monitors that were suspended above his head. He wryly noted that at least it looked like the Dogosse Gier was managing to slip away.

Trent looked down from the same monitors back to CPO Kellman as he returned to the captain’s side. He cleared his throat and reported quietly, “Sir, the taskforce sustained no significant damage. The Columbus Kai Otranto was lost far off our stern, but the withdrawal is proceeding…”. There was a short pause in the conversation as the two men braced themselves against a shudder that ran through the ship from a particularly close near-miss. “Proceeding as close to ’planned’ as possible, sir,” Mortimer finished, shaking his head slightly at the disorganized rabble that was scrambling to escape the area. Trent nodded, at the report and in agreement with his XO’s unspoken evaluation. The display showed Axis tick another space closer to the Gate of Zedan.

About 25 minutes now,” Trent thought. In the distance at the edge of P Field, the asteroid Axis loomed above the AEUG’s 4th Squadron. From Echo’s angle and position, it’s oncoming movement was barely perceptible. Andrewson knew that would change dramatically within the next half hour. The flash from an explosion drew his eye to the Kirov’s port side, but whatever its source was wasn’t visible. Mortimer glided over to the main group of operators and talked to them in hushed tones. One of the men pointed to something on one of the functioning sensor stations, and the chief nodded. “One of the Salamis Kais leaving dock S was clipped by beam fire and something blew. It’s moving out of the way of the other ships, captain,” he grunted, not turning away from the station.

The captain rested back in his chair and took everything in, and his hands tightened into loose fists as he went down a mental checklist of their situation. Axis would collide with the Gate of Zedan in less than half an hour, and there was nothing they could do to stop it. Jamitov Hymem and Bask Om looked to be making a clean getaway in the Dogosse Gier, which was already slipping into an open area that would let them rapidly move away from the asteroid base. Friendly vessels were evacuating from all functioning docks, but there was little organization. Trent frowned slightly as he made up his mind. They would be cutting it close… “All ships, we will begin our withdrawal when the countdown estimate reaches 12 minutes. Have your recall flares on standby.”

- Hangar -

Leandro sighed and slicked his damp hair back after he helped get the lingering crew back to work. He wanted to go straight to the showers and then to his quarters to sleep for a day or two, but he knew it would be a while before it would be safe to stand down. When he turned around to head for one of the ready rooms off the hangar, a medic thrust a container of plasma into his hand. “Keep it from floating away. And try to not squeeze it,” the medic instructed him as he continued to work on stabilizing Jason. Leandro’s jaw set and he held his tongue despite his annoyance, patiently helping out while they tended to his fellow pilot.

Jason, who still looked dazed and disoriented, asked "Hey pilot. Is it that bad out there? Are we…will Echo survive?". Leandro looked around sheepishly, noting they were the only two that had been forced to return to the ship so far… or maybe they were the only two that had tried and made it. “Yeah, it’s pretty bad,” he admitted with a sigh, “The AEUG really came out of the woodwork to nail us this time. They’re trying to go big with this crap,”. He shifted the plasma into his left hand and rubbed more sweat from his face. “We’ll be okay though. There’s more of us and we’ve got the big guns, yeah? Try to rest, amigo,”.

- Alpha Team -

Stukov’s face displayed a fierce, fanged grin as he felt the resistance of his beam saber biting into the innards of Ian’s Rick Dias. He leaned forward against his restraints as if adding his weight to the attack would plunge the weapon deeper into the enemy’s shoulder. “You are done!” he growled as electricity began to crackle out of Greydon’s mobile suit. Then, unexpectedly, rounds inside the cannon mount went off and the small blast forced Stukov’s Marasai back. “Gah,” Stukov grunted, raising his suit’s arm to protect the upper torso. He was about to stab at the Rick Dias again when the binder exploded peppering him with debris and sending his suit tumbling away. “…ебать-тарахтеть!” he yelled, hurriedly grabbing the controls to bring him out of the shockwave.

Grace gasped when she saw the back to back explosions, at first fearing she had shot too close to Ian and had somehow hit him while he was tangled up with Stukov. When the two suits separated and Stukov managed to regain control, she snapped out of her surprise and immediately changed position again, coming around in a wide arc to put her closer to her commander, with Ian between them and the interlopers she had spied earlier. “Grace, Милая моя,” Stukov rumbled, sounding more annoyed than usual, “Form up on me,”. A magnified view of his Marasai appeared in her HUD, and she clicked her tongue when the image cleared up. The suit’s left arm hung by the cables where it had been blown backward at the elbow joint by the binder’s explosion, and the skirt and torso had several patches of blackened and scraped armor.

The first bit of beam fire raked the space in front of the two Alpha Team suits before she could respond with anything more than an affirmative. “We are returning to the ship,” Stukov reacted curtly. He flew past her, putting his beam saber away and slowly retrieving his rifle with one good arm. A shot from one of the Nemos came close enough to force her into action, and she dove and turned away from where the Team 2 MS were bunching up. Stukov chose to climb again, coming up to the same plane as the Nemos to divide their fire between the two Marasais. One of them immediately began tracking his flight, firing continuously as the Russian came at them in an indirect, erratic flight pattern. Another soon turned at the behest of his wingman, and added his own tracking shots.

Stukov watched and waited as Alpha’s unspoken plan fell into place, and he genuinely smiled as Grace fluidly took up her half of the maneuver. One of the Nemos firing at him was suddenly skewered with a shot from below, eradicating it as Grace passed below them. In the moment after it, Stukov turned his Marasai on its side and came at the other Nemo from a path that had looked harmless the second before. It was all quite risky and dangerous, leaving Grace on her own to evade fire from two enemies in the hope that Stukov would get an opening. Luckily for them both, Stukov’s timing was nearly perfect.

A beam clipped Stukov’s shoulder shield as he closed in on the Nemo, but he ignored it as he slammed his feet down on the pedals and twisted the controls at the right moment. The AEUG suit, in a sort of shield-out ‘GM pose’, was rammed from the left - it pushed both limbs out of the way and kept the enemy’s rifle away from Stukov as he pressed his own against the body of the Nemo and fired twice. The dangling arm was torn away as he scraped off of the Nemo and burned a significant amount of his remaining propellant to get away before the enemy suit exploded. The Alpha Team Marasais came closer together as they cleared the loose line of suits and headed in the direction of the taskforce’s ships.

- Beta Team -

Wolf fumed as he watched Pan continue on his new flight path, knowing he had no way to attack him from his current distance thanks to his gambit with the beam launcher. He changed his approach slightly, taking him closer to a clump of fighting that was below and to his left. In response, his HUD quickly lit up as the computer highlighted and circled the nearby mobile suits. In front of him, one contact lit up and flashed as Pan’s bazooka round neutralized Jovi’s Marasai. Wolf was closing in on Jovi’s mangled MS when Haksson’s message reached him, “Ashlyn is it? Fate *zzsssp*kindly on you so far today, but le*fffssszz* how a traitor faces his Destiny,”. A new image window popped up in his peripheral vision, giving him a view of Sven as he fired ‘down’ at Fritz and Michiko.

Ashlyn?!

Ritter brought his Marasai to a stop dangerously fast, throwing him against the restraints and adding further anger and discomfort to the feelings that name elicited. His eyes darted across his display. Jovi’s Marasai floundered to his immediate right, and moving farther away by the second was the pink Rick Dias which was now firmly in “secondary target” status. Lt. Jovi had climbed out of his mobile suit, and was waving an emergency light around in an attempt to get Ritter’s attention so he could be rescued. Wolf instead noticed the beam rifle floating near the disabled Marasai’s hand, and he fluttered closer and snatched it out of space. “Sven!” Wolf yelled, bolder now with his new rifle, “Which one is he?”. He was aware of the stranded pilot begging for assistance, but he knew the man was insignificant compared to what he might be able to accomplish. Without a second thought Wolf rocketed away from the damaged suit, incinerating Jovi with his thrusters.

Now that he was facing the direction Sven was coming from, he got a better view of Fritz and Michiko and the other Titans units that were closing in on them in pursuit. While he waited momentarily for Haksson’s dutiful reply, he concocted a plan. “I have you now, murderer,” Wolf mentally accused the traitor as he rolled over to put him right side up in relation to the enemy. He charged ahead, intending to pass Sven and come at the Rick Diases from their right. “Separate them as quickly as possible!” Wolf bellowed, ordering everyone that could hear him on the Titans frequency. There were at least four Hizacks chasing them, and they would prove useful. Making sure Pan wasn’t up to something clever, Wolf twisted into a turn that would let him line up a shot. Neither one of the suits he could see was blue, but he knew Sven wouldn’t dare make a mistake in a case like this.

- Delta Team -

“Son of a bitch!” Stryper cursed as Tesla was blown away. Cara’s Barzam wobbled in place as she tracked Thibaut and fired again, giving the ensign from Juliet all the support he was going to get. “What the hell is that?” he mumbled aloud as he got a better look at the cannon mounted over the Nemo’s shoulder. Beam and cannon shots forced him to cease fire and take evasive, putting him closer to Kyle and Ramon. Cara used the friendly distraction to move up and attack for once, firing several more shots at Thibaut to keep driving him away. “Sir, we’ve got help!” Cara said over the team channel, ecstatic that friendly units had finally entered the area (even if one had almost immediately been shot down).

- Herakles Team -

Alex was encouraged when he saw several of his shots plunk Rick’s Nemo, and he slowed down to take aim again when he saw the AEUG pilot keep his shield up. “Ens. Morrow, I’ve got this guy,” he announced with newfound confidence that contrasted the panic that had seized him when Weeks had been killed. He took a second to bring up a new weapon control, activating the missile tubes attached to his Hizack. “All right…” he muttered, concentrating as he waited for his computer to give him an acceptable firing angle. Three rapid-fire flashes of light from Archer’s beam rifle caused him to squeeze off his shot prematurely, sending several rockets straight into the path of the first beam. They went off forcing him to roll to his left, which put him in an even worse position.

The third beam Rick fired impacted at the Hizack’s left shoulder, tearing that limb off and burning down across the suit’s torso until it exploded at the hip, removing the left leg as well. The small explosion ruined several control systems, and suddenly the right arm had a death grip on the 120mm machinegun. It began to fire a continuous stream of bullets, exhausting the entire ammo drum as Alex tried to keep the suit under control. “No, no, no!” he pleaded, slamming his hands on the controls. He looked up again, past the stream of bullets erupting from his gun and blanched when he realized there was nothing he could do to stop the Nemo that was coming at him. He began to undo his restraints in an effort to get out of his totaled MS.

Nearby, Court and Morrow were still dealing with Johnathon Miller. Ens. Court juked to his right, cursing his Hizacks perceived low maneuverability as a beam missed him by mere meters. “Back off and make him come to you,” Morrow said, moving up to assist his wingman. “Easy for you to say, Mr. Beam Rifle,” Court replied sarcastically, strafing to his right and backwards as he fired another sustained burst of 120mm. Morrow came from above Court, firing a single beam at Miller to gauge his reactions.

Krokus and Dokken waited patiently for Dolk’s next orders, but they seemed to be slow in coming. Clute‘s crushed escape pod drifted away from the Griffin, and Dolk seemed to be making his mind up about what to do next. Dokken finally began to get nervous as Celeste and Jacob approached, and she spoke up first, “Lieutenant, there’s several enemies approaching. I can move to intercept-”. “But we’ll sail on. Sing a song. Carry on,” Dolk finally ordered(?), waving his suit‘s arm and taking off again at high speed. They couldn’t tell if he was just singing along to his music or not. Krokus was the one to talk first this time. Even though the she and Dokken were just test pilots, the Griffin seemed to be doing exceptionally well against AEUG mobile suits so far. “Sir, why are we ignoring the others? You took o-”

“’Cause we rock,” Dolk interjected. He accelerated, forcing the two other blue suits to abandon their spots near Clute’s fried machine. The trio of Griffins moved away from everyone in the immediate vicinity, friendly and otherwise, and headed off at high speed in the general direction of where the Titans ships were evacuating. Unless the AEUG pilots nearby wanted to burn up the rest of their propellant, pursuit was almost certainly out of the question as the Griffins rapidly turned into blurs in the distance.

After Scirocco left the bridge area, Black Friday moved forward to watch the distant spectacle from the bridge windows. Haifan went about his business commanding the withdrawal of the ship, but Black had all the noise and voices tuned out as he focused on the Gate of Zedan. Somewhere in the midst of the light and movement at the Gate, the bulk of Taskforce Juliet was in ruins. The report had been confirmed that the Latium was sunk. “But not my plans,” Friday thought, his eyes narrowing slightly. Still stone faced, he closed his eyes and tried to reach out across space… A rough, rapid tempo, not unlike a racing heartbeat. A small smile crept onto his face. “So he’s still alive. That means at least one of them is intact,”.

He opened his eyes. As soon as things calmed down a bit, he would be very busy.

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

- Gate of Zedan, P Field Perimeter -

- The Bindra -
- Bridge -

“Wait,” came a voice from behind the captain, causing him to start in surprise. He spun around and found Julian Meighan was suddenly on the bridge again. “How the hell…?” he muttered as the observer began to speak. "Get ready all the same, but don't be so eager to shoot him up. Let me talk to him first,” Julian said as he approached the main sensor station. Pizal silently followed him with his gaze, irritated that the younger man (and junior officer) was belaying one of his orders. He placed his hands on his hips and watched, holding his tongue only because Meighan doubtlessly knew more than he did about the Rick Dias type. "MacAlpin?" Julian simply asked, “Is that you in there, Jim? What is it? Is there something we can help you with?"

What.” Pizal’s angry expression drooped into confused annoyance. What was Meighan doing? The blank hiss of radio silence was the only response from the AEUG pilot. “MacAlpin!” he tried again, but the captain knew full well it was a dangerous waste of time. "Keep trying, and tell our pilots not to shoot at that first Rick Dias moving towards us if you can, Captain," Julian said suddenly as he passed him on the way out of the bridge, "I'm going out there to sort this out,”. “What? You’re what?” Wald asked incredulously, but Meighan was already gone. The captain looked around, finding a mixture of looks returning his gaze. Some of the crew seemed amused, and a few looked almost as if they were embarrassed for him.

Pizal’s face turned slowly flushed crimson. “Why did no one tell me he was back on the bridge?!” he demanded angrily, “I sent Vada after him ten minutes ago!”. “Well, sir, he was--” one of the operators near the door stammered, and Pizal roughly smacked the helmet off of his head just for speaking up. He couldn’t believe what had just happened on the bridge of his ship. He floated over and snatched the handset from its cradle next to his command chair. He had said he wouldn‘t be anyone‘s fool, and he meant it. “Gunnery team, stand by to fire warning shots at that lead Rick Dias,” he ordered sharply. “Sir, Ltjg. Meighan seems to think he knows who the pilot is, and--” one of the more senior crew spoke up. “Balderdash,” Wald interrupted him, “I read the reports on the 4th Squadron he provided, and I know what he told me about the Rick Dias,”.

The conversation he had with Julian prior to their arrival at the Gate of Zedan would have been enough to make his mind up even without reading the intel on the 4th. He hung up the handset and moved to closer to the windows. “Ltjg. Meighan made it clear to me that most of the AEUG’s pilots are veterans, most of them from the Federation. And that,” he said, pointing at the oncoming suit, “is a Rick Dias. A suit ‘reserved for aces’ as I recall him saying. And this one appears to have some kind of new weapons, which matches what he told us about Anaheim’s new program ideas,”. He turned to face the crew on the bridge just as one of the sensor crew said, “Sir, it’s accelerating on the same course, and it’s jettisoned some sort of containers… Captain, the observers are reporting a second Rick Dias is following it, and it’s… pink?”.

That got his attention. Something that had jumped out at him when he read the information on the 4th’s pilots - one of the “Team 1” members from their flagship was described as a rough lout of a man named Pan… Heyder? Heyden? Something like that. What Pizal did recall specifically about him was the custom paint job of his mobile suit - pink and yellow - and his dubious service record in the EFSF combined with what seemed to be highly aggressive tendencies. Not only that, but the leader of that particular unit was a former Titan and part of that Manhunter Agency earthnoids were so reluctant to talk openly about. Which meant there was a good chance the team leader would be in the unit with the new equipment, and Pan was following him on some kind of attack run.

“The lead one is a lot closer than pinky,” the sensor operator clarified, giving an estimated distance and travel time. They were close to the edge of viable weapons range. Pizal’s grip tightened on the back of the seat he was standing behind and he ordered, “Tell Graden to intercept the lead one and fire warning shots. Have the gunners add a little discouragement of their own,”. If there was a chance he had a couple of former Federal hardliners staring him down in new Gundam units, he wasn’t willing the take the kind of chance Julian apparently was. He had to think about the lives of everyone on board the ship. He picked the handset up again as the first warning shots were fired in MacAlpin’s general direction from the ship’s mid-sized guns.

- Hangar -

“Yes. Of course, sir,” the senior security officer on deck responded to the captain before hanging up the wall handset. Behind him were two other soldiers clad in the older-style Zeon uniforms, each one carrying one of their typical machine pistols. “Capt. Wald wants us to stop Ltjg. Meighan and ask him to return to the bridge. He’s not to leave the hangar without the captain’s permission,” the officer relayed the orders, and the two men clicked their heels at attention (as best they could in low gravity) and responded in the affirmative. The trio made their way to the end of the hall that Meighan would have to come through to get into the hangar and waited.

“They’re still moving out of the area…” Capt. Abbey murmured as he watched the Titans ships beyond Echo move to follow the Dogosse Gier out of the area. “It looks like there’s not much we can do from this position. The Argama and Radish are pressuring S Field enough to severely limit the evacuation from there, but unless we move dangerously closer we won’t be able to put the same squeeze on P Field,” Barrique observed, lowering his binoculars and crossing his arms to mull it over. Abbey nodded and his vision sank a little, “The mobile suit attack isn’t enough to prevent their escape on this side of the asteroid,”. But then again, that was selling them short. Just slowing the escape down was all they needed to do, and that was exactly what was accomplished. There would be plenty of ships caught in the aftermath of the collision, and they had done their part exactly as it had been asked of them so far.

The consoling look Barrique gave him showed he was thinking the same thing. Yet still… Abbey knew just slowing them down wouldn’t be enough for men like André Loweno. “Your time will come. Some day soon we’ll have them cornered somewhere, and they won’t be able to run,” he thought. He had no doubt that there would come a time when the AEUG would be the one hunting down the Titans. And if this operation continued to be as successful as it appeared to be, it would be sooner rather than later. “We’re doing a hell of a job so far, captain. The final push will come soon, before the asteroid is on its final approach,” Barrique said as he raised his field glasses back up to his eyes.

Abbey smiled faintly and nodded, “That’ll be our chance to move up and pin more of them --”. “Sir! The Axis ship off our port side has opened fire again,” Filmore spoke up, interrupting them. The captain waited for a new view of the area to cycle onto one of the displays, and wasn’t particularly alarmed by what he saw. “Hard to tell what they’re firing on now, but it looks like there’s a couple of new thruster flares out ahead of them coming from the field,” Abbey said after he got a look at the blurry image. Barrique grumbled wordlessly, not sounding particularly content to leave it at that as he swung the binoculars in their direction. A hair-thin line of light swirled in space and streamed across the front of the Dervish’s bridge, unnoticed by the preoccupied crew.

Capt. Abbey‘s eyes widened a bit and he held his breath when he heard what sounded like Clute Tideland whispering in his ear from across the room, “Careful, sir. Dangerous. Use the laser,”. It seemed to direct his attention back to the Bindra. “Huh?” he said, snapping out of it and looking around as the light moved past the Dervish. He wasn’t sure what had just happened, but apprehension crept into his mind as he looked at the Bindra again. “Mr. Barrique, can you see anything at the Axis ship better than I can with the monitor?” he asked, rising from his seat. Richard shrugged slightly and responded, “Hard to see the area they’re shooting at. I can tell it’s mobile suits, but not much more than that,”. Abbey watched the sporadic firing pattern and then realized what it reminded him of. “It looks like they’re firing warning shots. That’s not full defensive fire,” he said, moving to the comm station.

“Can we contact that Axis ship through the interference here?” he asked Jane. She tried several times to carry out the request and then shook her head, “Sorry, sir. I can’t keep a stable connection long enough to try communicating with them,”. Abbey looked over her controls and realized what the voice meant. “Can we use the communications laser equipment at this close range?” he asked, already knowing the answer. Jane nodded a little embarassed, “I should have thought of that, sir. It’s how the Argama is staying in contact with the AEUG ships during the battle. Give me a moment and I should be able to attempt contact,”.

- The Hamburg -
- Bridge -

"Hamburg, this is Lt. Adam Trask. I'm coming in for resupply. I repeat this is Adam Trask. I am returning for resupply."

“Right. Ltjg. Trask, you are cleared for landing,” the comm operator responded. Lt. Stalvern contacted the hangar crew and made sure they were ready to receive returning mobile suits. Loweno grinned, “Well, that’s one of ours confirmed still alive. No doubt out of ammo and fuel from gunning down scores of Titans. Make sure he gets a rest and a drink while he’s waiting - we’re not done here,”. He folded his arms contentedly. The Hamburg was right in the thick of things doing her part. A light the size of a pinprick fell into the bridge like a shooting star and faded near Loweno.

Captain… thank you. Serving on the Hamburg was an honor and a pleasure.

“Clute?” André wondered aloud at the voice he had heard. Lt. Stalvern turned and responded, “Sir?”. The captain shook his head slowly and waved his XO away. What had he just heard, and why didn’t John hear it?

- Gate of Zedan, P Field -
- Team 1 -

Fritz checked his propellant and ammo charge as he pursued Sven, and wasn’t exactly thrilled with what he saw. He did some math in his head and figured he would have enough to finish the sortie for this mission, but it didn’t leave him much room for error. A beam fired by one of the Hizacks breathing down his neck reminded him he had more imminent danger to think about. He and Michiko moved further apart from each other to let the beam pass between them, and it was soon followed by Sven’s attack. “Ashlyn is it? Fate has smiled kindly on you so far today, but let us see how a traitor faces his Destiny,” Haksson taunted as he shot ‘down’ at them. Fritz’ HUD chirped again and reorganized the multiple small windows and indicators as he reoriented on Sven and Wolf’s mobile suits.

Unless he was about to be ambushed by something he hadn’t noticed, there were four Hizacks chasing him, another two far out in front of him and two Marasais much closer. “What the hell are Pan and Jim doing?” he grumbled, asking Michiko a question he knew she couldn’t answer. If they didn’t get some assistance relatively quickly, they could be in a sticky situation. “Fritz, this is too dangerous. We can try to break to our right at about 2:30 low and get through,” Michiko said, hoping he would listen. But as soon as she suggested it, in the distance Wolf Ritter slid into their primary escape route. “Damn it,” Fritz cursed through his teeth as a trio of beams came his way from Ritter’s new beam rifle. He moved further away from Michiko to keep her out of the new angle the shots were coming from and slowed down enough to ‘hop’ one beam with an upward vernier burst and then ‘duck’ the next with one in the opposite direction.

“Michi, try to do something about the ones following us,” Fritz said, moving ahead of the C-Type. He fired his beam pistol twice at Sven, who was still much closer. Michiko winced when she saw their easy way out evaporate. “Right…” she responded, looking ‘down’ like Sven had the best the bulkier Rick Dias could manage. The closest Hizack let loose with a long snake of 120mm fire, part of which lashed across her mobile suit, slightly denting the armor and taking paint off. She lined up a quick shot and fired twice with a beam pistol and once with the shoulder cannon, which missed the Hizack but forced the group to split their formation.

She continued to follow Fritz, but feathered her verniers to take up a different firing position to avoid the Hizacks’ initial counter fire. She hesitated, watching Fritz close in on the Marasais, and she was momentarily distracted by the Bindra opening fire again. “I can’t let him throw his life away over Wolf Ritter,” she thought, shaking her head, “There has to be a way out of this…”

- Team 3 -

Celeste was rocked in her seat as Nick neatly lopped off her suit’s right foot below the ankle, but it wasn’t enough to keep her from approaching Clute’s mobile suit. She watched the evil trio of blue mobile suits leave the area as she got almost close enough to Clute’s Rick Dias to touch it. “Get a hold of yourself woman! Are you stupid?” Nick hissed over the open channel, “You aren’t done with me yet! …I won’t let those blue bastards put my kill on their belt!”. Celeste half turned to keep her beam saber between her and Nick, but instead of immediately replying she reached out and gently grabbed what was left of Tideland’s escape pod with her suit‘s free hand.

She swung at Nick feebly, with the intention of reestablishing skin-talk as she fought back tears. “This is all the Titans are good for, Nick… killing. You’re not protecting anyone!”

- New Yark Team -

Thibaut continued to slowly and deliberately give up ground to Cara and Stryper as he tried to convince Ramon to give it up and fall back. “Ramon, please! We can’t stay here any longer!” he begged, firing at the Hizack and Barzam again to keep them from rushing and overwhelming him. He was running low on ammunition for his cannon, and they had used up a lot of propellant traveling to and fighting in the area. Hard AE finally managed to separate himself from Kyle Roberts, and he backed away and moved closer to Chareux. “…I want to go back to the ship,” Sumitani said. Thibaut blinked at his new CO’s statement. He had never heard him talk without any of his usual gusto or eccentric speaking habits, and it almost scared him. He sounded tired and cheerless.

“Let’s go, sir,” Thibaut responded, waving his beam rifle. He fired another cannon round and a few shots from his rifle, saving the rest for the return trip to the ship in case they were pursued. Ramon moved ahead of him, using the covering fire because of his suit’s damage and lack of viable weaponry.

"Than you, bridge" Adam replied as the hatch to the hanger on the ships ventral surface opened up and he gently manoeuvred his Nemo into the ship. He performed the manoeuvre without incident and touched down onto the hanger floor with a dull thud. Walking the suit to one of the berths, he set the suit to idle and opened the hatch and swung out of the cockpit.

He found one of the NCOs waiting outside with a bottle of drink which he took grtefully. He took a large slurp and found to his surprise that the drink was still cold. "How's it going out there, sir?" the NCO, a sergeant by his insignia, asked.

"Better than I would have thought, but the Titans are pushing back. Our team engaged right now with one of theirs, so I can't really waste to much time here."

"Of course sir, we'll be as quick as we can." The man was already walking off as he finished. Adam looked around and already saw that a spare shield was being fitted to the left arm and the beam rifle was being swapped out for a freshly charged one.

-Ltjg.Kyle Roberts-

Kyle was finally able to gain control of his Barzam when he noticed the two Nemos attempting to leave the area. Drained from the rough scuffle with the Nemo and not seeing his C.O. anywhere on his sensors, Kyle decided not to push his luck. As he speculated on M-hover's fate, a red light on a far off panel flashed indicating the unit's need to refuel. Kyle opened a comm to the nearby suits.

"Cara..let them go. Return to the Kirov to resupply." Kyle eyed his sensors once more before returning his attention to Ens. Stryper. "Hizack, This is P-field. Juliet's gone. If you have enough propellant withdraw with the escaping fleet otherwise refuel at Task-force Echo."

Extinguishing the beam saber, Kyle proceeds toward the Kirov's location with minimal speed due to the damage his Barzam sustained.

"Attention Bindra team, Prepare to intercept the AEUG MS but do not attack until specific orders are given." Lt. Cmdr. Graden ordered.

"Hmmpp. Since when did we become friends with AEUG?" Matthew jeered.

Matthew was about to return to the Bindra when it suddenly opened up with it's guns at the approaching Dias. Still being a rookie and not knowing the difference between warning shots and the real thing, Matthew hurriedly raised his beam cannon and fired twice at MacAlpin's suit.

-Julian-

It didn't need to be said then that by the time Julian had gotten to the hanger and was intercepted by a mass of armed soldiers, it was far too late --- the Bindra had started firing on MacAlpin as had the Gaza Cs, and by the time Julian went out there, Jim would pretty much be dead already. As Julian shrugged --- he had no doubts that Wald had ordered to shoot him if he refused --- and sighed, looking out the hanger, he turned around with an air of futility; Wald apparently hadn't read his supplemental report on some of the notable pilots in the 4th, either, and if Wald had...he'd know what the deal with James MacAlpin was, too. But it was far too late to do anything now, when gung-ho had pretty much possessed the entire ship and someone was definitely going to die.

Julian will deal with Wald later.

"I'll go back, but you can tell Wald for me in advance..." Julian sneered bitterly, turning around and letting himself be escorted back to the Bindra's bridge. "...Nevermind. He'll never get it, anyway. Like Gihren never did..."

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

Jacob would gladly have burnt up every drop of propellant he had to chase down the blue suits who'd so viciously slain his CO. In fact, he planned to do just that, throwing his throttle wide open to pick up some speed when a group of Mobile Suits got between him and his targets.

Tears of frustration (and something more, no doubt) clouded his vision as he maneuvered to get a good shot at this latest interference. He'd take them down just as quickly as he had that Hi-Zack and continue his pursuit. The targeting computer chimed to indicate that he had a lock and he pulled the trigger but jerked the cannon up at the last second. His 240mm round missed the Nemo by only a few meters and no doubt gave the pilot a fright.

"Get out of my way!" Jacob shouted, rushing forward and trying to wade through the mass of mobile suits. But, by the time he got past them, the strange blue suits were nowhere to be found.

He smashed his fist against the console. "Come back you scum! Come back and fight me!"

But, they weren't going to. They'd already moved on and chances were, he'd never see them again, never get his chance at revenge.

Fighting back the feelings that were rushing inside him, he searched for any targets to take his rage out on. It took only a few moments to find a quartet of Hizacks and another moment to see that they were bearing down on two of the members of Team 1.

"You'll do," he muttered, kicking in his thrusters again. He drew his beam pistol and ignited his beam saber as he rushed at the enemy Mobile Suits. But he didn't plan to wait until he got close enough to use those weapons. He quickly drew a bead on one of the Suits and fired a quick pair of rounds from his shoulder cannon at it.
Yep...That's Texas in a nutshell. Why just say "f**k you" when you can put it on a flag?

Rem grunted at Polk's reminder that there weren't any MS left on board. Maybe a simulator... He turned to Sophie with a grin. "Guilty as charged, Ensign. Rem Banner, Egghead Adjunct to Genuine Genius. Or something like that." He watched Dr. M work at his helmet for a moment somewhat impassively, knowing the doctor would get through it. "The distinguished gentleman is Doctor Gerhard Merkwürdigliebe, one of the top MS designers at Anaheim." He thought about offering the doctor a hand, but he knew that the doctor didn't always appreciate offered help.

Rem turned back to Sophie, realizing how odd he must sound. "Sorry about that, I'm still running on about no sleep for 3 days getting all these upgrades in motion." He stuck out his right hand, "Rem Banner, Anaheim Engineer. Mostly electronics and systems. No offense, but what happened? Crash harnesses usually keep blunt force trauma down to a minimum."

"Uh, they don't seem to be doing all that great," Timothy said to Aaron as they go closer to the rest of Buxoro.

"I'm sure the Lt. will be happy to hear your criticism, especially when he asks you where you had vanished before."

"Roger that, shutting up and attacking the enemy," Timothy replied as he took aim at Emington’s Nemo and fired a single blast from his beam rifle. It was mostly to get the attention of the AEUG pilot since his Hi-Zack was in better shape then the rest of the team. Hopefully they'd attack him over the damaged members of Buxoro team.

Meanwhile Aaron also let a missile fly from his Hi-Zack at Al, hoping to catch him off guard while he dodged Elijah's attack

- Alfred

Al couldn’t believe what he saw in his warning screen. 'Missiles? At this range?!' He protested. Panicked, he mustered all the suit’s reverse thrusters at max trying to get away from danger. Still, it was coming too fast. The first one launched narrowly missed his suit’s left leg, while the other one began to slowly curved to his suit.

He managed to track down the second missile in time and fired his Vulcan franticly. One of the 60mm nailed the missile outward casings. Crushed the inner working but triggered untimely detonation. The warhead exploded in a rather spectacular way, shotting fiery fragments anywhere nearby. Al could get away safely if the third missile didn’t suddenly approach. Aaron’s missile caught him in bad position. Unable to run, he received the impact head on relying his crippled shield to block it away.

The Nemo was soon engulfed by the explosion. The sheer force made Al like a ragged doll being strapped into a linear chair. At one point his head hit the console and bleed inside the helmet. He couldn’t really do much after the aftermath. His shield was gone and dead spots all over his screens. Ignoring the protesting system check and damage control, he pushed his right hand to turn into Korbel’s position and flared his thrusters, thinking only to get away from that place.

- Randy

Emington was confused at his opponent's choice of action when he saw Tyler withdraw from close confrontation. The one handed Hizack with no range weaponry giving him distance and speed for free. With no missiles around like the previous time, he turned his suit around and put thrusters into reverse to maintain the distance. He eying the Hizack while swapped his weapons. Second latter, the console showed a green bar. The beam saber was stored and recharging. Then the suit reached for the beam rifle and aimed at the incoming target.

He was about to fire when a new Hizack arrived and fired his beam at Emington’s position. “What the?!...” He looked rather dumbfounded at this new arrival.

Randy steered away while registering the new threats into his head. Just then his screen showed Al’s Nemo being engulfed by an explosion. Shock ran through his head while his vision moved again to Tyler’s suit. Only now he saw Tyler's Hizack not really a threat. Cursing under his breath, he rearranged his priorities. Turning his suit around and fired his thrusters, racing his way toward Al’s Nemo.

In flight he saw Korbel firing shells at Robin’s position and yelled instinctively, “Bernard, keep them busy. I’ll get….” He saw Al’s Nemo moving relatively closer toward Korbel’s position. “Get Alfred out! I’ll keep them busy!”. His HUD showed Aaron’s suit being close and unoccupied. He targeted it up and sends three beams flying to Aaron's Hizack, trying to nail it by surprise.

[Pan Heyden]

"What the hell are you doing?" Pan muttered to himself confused by Jim's actions. Was he doing what it looked like? Then he dropped his missile pack.

"Jim! Pull back! Pull back now!" Pan growled over the intercom. Pan had no idea why Jim would do this now, but he wasn't going to let him to defect.

"ANSWER ME! ANSWER ME NOW OR I'LL SHOOT YOU DOWN MYSELF!"

Jim's heart sunk as enemy fire started to surround him. "They're not shooting at me are they?" Then his radio started to be filled with static, a bunch of voices he didn't recognize, but Pan's angry voice was the most clearest. They were shooting at Pan??

"Stay out of this Pan! I'm in charge of my own life, I can do as I please, and my allies aboard this orange vessel have begun to open fire on you I suggest you leave now."

Pan didn't snarl, his mouth hung agape in confusion. What was Jim on, was he really considering defecting? Was he an Axis spy?

"Jim, please! Turn around, kiddo. We can discuss this with Fritz on the Dervish!"

"I'm not discussing anything with you stubborn old men," Jim said weaving past a shot from the Bindra. Theses guys...are cutting the shots pretty close... Jim stopped his Rick Dias and started flashing a friendly signal and waving his arm trying to get attention.

"You little prick! Don't make me do this!"
Pan's instincts took over and he fired a warning shot above Jim's position, just as the overeager gunners aboard the Bindra placed a round right in Jim position.

"Urgh!" Jim grunted as he pulled up and lost his leg to the Bindra blast. Jim never found what he was fighting for as Pan's bazooka round slammed directly into the Rick Dias' back.

Jim's life was taken from him by the very same people he had hated and admired. Fritz and Pan were both mentors to him. They were both the kind of person who killed his father, and helped destroy Zeon. They were ruthless killers who were trained to kill people like himself.

Pan's face went white, as he witnessed Jim's Rick Dias explode, he knew there was no chance the kid survived.

".....Jim...." Pan mumbled holding his control stick rather tightly, floating idly in space as the idiots in the Bindra poured on the sloppiest shots he had ever witnessed in his whole life.

The kid meant a lot to Pan. He wasn't bad for a Zeke, and to be honest. Pan never really thought any different of him. It was mostly just an act to keep up his appearance. But to lose him like this...this was too much.

"Sad part about killing you scum is I’ll only be able to do it once!" Pan roared with tremendous anger as he slammed his controls with enough force he almost tore one of the control sticks right out of the console.

"GO TO HELL!" He bellowed completely unloading his bazooka, only to find out it was out of ammo. Heyden muttered a curse word and pulled away from the Bindra, most likely allowing the lot of them to live another day.

"MacAlplins dead..." was all he said as he got into Fritz' and Michiko's range.

Curren burnt up the last of his propellant just trying to get back to the Dervish, keeping him out of the loop. Darting around to avoid the incoming fire, there wasn't much he could do as he had to return from enemy territory. His chase after Stukov was unsuccessful, though he was pretty damn sure he will meet the man in battle again soon.

Wes cursed his machine's decreased operation time just as he used the last drop of propellant left in the tank. Fortunately for him, he used the forward momentum from the thrust to land into the Dervish's netting to re-dock with the ship. Curren was completely unaware of the various losses they've been facing throughout the battle.

Ashlyn weaved nearly effortlessly through Sven's Shots, this guy must be some sort of Ace, he surely must have been at the top of the family. A cold sweat started pouring down Sven's back as he realized this guy was better than him, and there was really little he could do except hope. Wolf's sudden and sharp command instilled a sense of hope back into Sven, so he was close enough this time, good.

The tone Wolf took bothered him, something in him had expected Wolf to know who this Ashlyn guy was, but he didn't expect so much venom in the guy. "Sir, he is in the regular Dias with the bazooka, he should be getting low on ammo." Shifting his controls Sven brought his Marasai into a downwards loop, Ashlyns beams fluttered past where Sven had been only moments earlier, at the bottom of the loop he shifted his Marasai once more to 'right itself' in terms of the enemy vision. His suite was now on level with the approaching Rick Diases.

Sven caught Wolf's order to all the surrounding Titan units. Completing his circle he responded coldly, "Affirmative, moving to engage the Dias with the Cannon." His prolonged maneuvers would require him to refuel soon, but it wouldn't stop him from at least one good run on the Dias, and this time Ashlyn wouldn't be there to stop him.

Speeding once again towards the enemies Sven quickly closed towards the Dias with the cannon. At the moment it was turned and facing the other direction engaging the pursuing HiZacks. He knew the pilot would undoubtedly pick him up on their panoramic cockpit, but the pilot would have little time to react before he was in close range. Aware of the fact his Beam Rifle was almost out of charge Sven held his fire electing to wait until he was closer.

With the resupply complete, Adam reboarded the Nemo and started up the launch procedure as the lift raised him to the catapult on the upper deck. As the Nemo set into the catapult, the operator called over the comms, giving him clearance to launch.

"Thank you bridge. Adam Trask, Nemo, heading back out."

The Nemo rocket engines ignited and the catapult activated, flinging the green machine into the void of space. Adam fiddled with the controls, looking for the rest of the Hamburg's mobile suits.

"Where are you guys?" he breathed, hoping that all were still alive.
