Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

The dainty pink Rick Dias was headed straight for the escaping Titan's fleet. On close inspection it would reveal that the suit was damaged. But it pressed on forwards weaving through the gunfire that flooded the area.

A clear but static filled message managed to bleep through Pan's radio. He frowned glancing back at two nemos that had started to follow him. He grunted as he ignored them and increased his acceleration to the maximum, trying to lose them in the carnage.

No point in leading two other people to their deaths.

The clash of the charge pushed Sven against his restraints and rocked him about in the cockpit. Even with the force of the charge he was barely able to touch the Dias, the enemy pilot was clearly experiences, he had ignored his distraction and his reflexes were quite fast. The enemy pilots voice came in clear through their close proximity, “And I can’t stand by and watch you Titan animals kill any more good people!” For the first time in the battle a sly smile crept across Sven’s face, this poor AEUG was to naive to know that it was the winners who dictated who was good and who was not.

Pushing his beam saber harder he tried to press through the Dias defense. Instead the Dias erupted, both literally and figuratively into movement. The pilot, clearly insane fired point black at Sven, the beam bore through his Marasai’s left wrist and tore on past into space. If the shot had been even a little more to the left it would have bored through the chest of the Marasai probably killing both of them when the reactor would have gone critical. Warning screens appeared on his HUD, his left hand was no longer operable even as it still clenched his lit beam saber. The Dias using the force of his blade pushed back off his blade, Sven knew immediately what such a maneuver sought to accomplish. It was a daring plan by the pilot and it would have worked to if it were not for the fact that the Dias was slowed down by the bulky cannon and ammunition. Firing his thrusters he boosted up and over the Dias as it gave him the space necessary to do so. He didn’t leave unscarred though, the Dias cut through the already damaged wrist as his left arm lagged behind his suit.

His thrusters take him up and over the enemy Dias on its left. A series of screens appears on his cockpit warning him of the damage to his Marasai, his dwindling fuel supply, and his lack of ammo. Powering up his thrusters Sven tracks a course back to the Kirov, Wolf would have to wait for Sven to conduct emergency repairs and refuel. Breaking off further to the right Sven’s flight path took him close to Wolf’s battle with the traitor, only Wolf’s ragged cry brings Sven’s attention to the actual battle he was supporting in a peripheral way, with this moment of respite he was able to see traitor make his escape. Clenching his teeth Sven vowed inwardly to actually be there the next time to support Wolf. As he fly’s his ragged circular route back towards the Kirov, Sven maneuvers his Marasai so he can keep his beam rifle tracked onto the Dias

A wave of relief came to Bernard in the form of a saline solution poured into his eyes. After washing away any foreign objects the medical technician drops a dye and picks up a binocular-like device which Bernard looks through. "Hey Doctor can you have a look?"

The med tech moves aside as the doctor steps in and peers through the other side of the device. After a few minutes he gives his assessment.

"Hmm. It appears that you suffered some corneal abrasion, mostly in your left eye." As the doctor informs Bernard, he scribbles some notes on a pad and looks over at the technician. "Apply some antibiotic ointment for now." Looking back at Bernard the Doctor gives Bernard a rundown. "We're going to give you a patch for your left eye to help decrease discomfort. Wear it for at least 24 hours. If you still have difficulty with your sight then you'll need to check with a specialist when we reach port. Now get some rest."

Bernard would have liked nothing more than to close his eyes and sleep but a nagging question roamed in his mind.

"Wait. Where's my squad? Are they O.K.?" he asked

The doctor stops and turns with a stern face, he informs Bernard that only one other needed medical attention and that as far as he knows they are still on duty. He reiterated his instructions to get rest and that Bernard could have a problem with his balance. So it would be pointless to go out. But after hearing about Al and knowing his squad is down 2 men, he stands with some trouble and grabs a normal suit assigned to the medical bay. Ignoring the medical staff's orders he makes his way to the hanger.

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

-Buxoro

Elijah emerged to the light of the hanger almost immediately after Melton touched down and the crash netting was coming up as per his instructions. It felt good to be back aboard and to have had his team make it back "home". The two techs who pried him out after having to disconnect the busted lock mechanism with an acetylene torch now hovered around him to make sure he okay. As he shooed them away he caught sight of the expected 60mm dent almost on top of the cut-site.
"This is Ens. August on final approach." Elijah heard over the comm and turned to watch his last charge come aboard.

Tyler was coming in well enough, he made some fine adjustments and slowed for precise point contact. When the left foot contacted and started to scrape the deck Tyler very suddenly began to move towards the hanger at a speed he did not wish to be at while his HUD screamed in warning:
-- CONTACT SENSOR - CIRCUIT SHORT
-- FUEL VALVE 3 [LL] - NON RESPONSIVE
-- FUEL LINE *8 [LL] - NON...
He kinda stopped worrying about the warnings when he was arrested by the crash netting and his head whiplashed forward into the screen, shattering it.
The left leg, having taken some expected proximity damage from when the other leg blew, caused a short between the contact sensor and throttle. The registry of the deck suddenly sent the leg's engine into full vernian, quickly expending what little fuel it had.

Elijah held his breath unconsciously when Tyler jumped forward and almost somersaulted his suit into the net. It was almost three seconds before a calm, almost declarative "owww" issued over the radio.

A moment after the sound of scraping metal had stopped Tyler took stock in the dim cockpit and surmised that he had a killer headache and a possible bloody nose. The Ensign "ow'ed" when he laid back and let his headache wash over him while he waited for the crash teams. As an afterthought he said that he was alright.

Lt. Robin let out his breath at the sound of life and acknowledgment that his subordinate was okay. He'd find out what happened here later but now he smiled behind his helmet and asked Faraday and Melton to "help sort out this mess" as he left the hanger to report to Winter. They had all followed his only real order, wonderfully and all got back alive, "yes, but only for now" said a small sad voice at the back of his head.

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

Jacob might have been proud knowing that Sven thought he was experienced, even if the man was a Titan and if he himself just thought he was desperate. He would never know, of course and, having fought in several battles now, perhaps he was experienced.

In any case, his opponent avoided his attack with only relatively minor damage, drawing a shout of frustration and rage from Jacob's mouth. His thrust takes him past Sven's Marasai and for a tantalizing moment, the back of his suit is exposed before he spins around, his saber up and ready to block the counter attack he assumes is coming.

It takes his anger befuddled mind a moment to understand what's happening. "You're running? You're running! You coward, come back!"

The words have not even finished leaving his mouth before the same warnings come out of his Rick Dias that came out of Sven's Marasai. Low fuel, low ammo, time to go home.

"Shut up. Shut up! Shut Up!" he shouts at the machine slamming his palm down on the override button.

He begins his pursuit of Sven, but at the moment, any Titan will do so when his quarry sweeps past Wolf, Jacob does not. "I'll kill you all!" he threatens as he launches a shell from his shoulder cannon at the Marasai. A pair of beam pistol shots follow before a fresh warning comes in telling him it is out of energy. That doesn't stop him though and he rushes towards the Titan ace with beam saber lit.
Yep...That's Texas in a nutshell. Why just say "f**k you" when you can put it on a flag?

It was definitely a close call, and for the first emergency landing he had witnessed, it made Aaron hope he never had to see one again.

"Help sort out this mess" said Robin as he made his way to report to Winter.

"Sure thing Lt.," chimed in Tim, "I'll put a band-aid on his cuts."

He turned to Aaron to get a reaction from what he said, and saw empty space as he had already headed towards Tyler's Hi-Zack as the crash teams lowered it into the bay.

When he reached the cockpit hatch he put hit helmet against it to make the radio contact private like skin talk with mobile suits.

"You did good out there Tyler, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Now, do you need us to pop the hatch from out here or can you manage yourself?"

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

- Gate of Zedan, P Field -

- The Kirov -
- Bridge -

Another two tense minutes ticked off the countdown timer while Trent watched his fleet’s mobile suits trickle back to their ships. In three more he would give the order to have Taskforce Echo join the evacuation, effectively ceding P Field to the AEUG. “They can have it,” he decided easily. No one would want to be there in a little over ten minutes anyway. Stukov remained at the captain’s side with his arms folded, grumbling faint approval now and then as the operators announced which pilots had returned to the Kirov. It was already confirmed by Kyle Roberts that Lt. Kamek was killed in action as Delta transferred into the hangar, and Trent was starting to wonder why Patrick Miller had not returned with either the injured Ltjg. Drossel or his unpredictable team leader. The captain pondered Miller’s fate as the white-haired Nick Te’Litha entered the bridge.

“Hey Trent, I hate to sound like a broken record, but I don't suppose we could escape now and leave Wolf and his team to rot?” Gamma’s team leader asked, proving he had made it through the battle with his sardonic sense of humor intact. Trent did not visibly react, but Stukov managed a harsh noise that could be interpreted as ambiguous agreement. The captain turned to face Nick and answered tactfully, “We’re going to leave the area in another two and a half minutes regardless of who is out there, lieutenant. Mobile suit or otherwise,”. That would have gotten him a look from Tariq. He adjusted his hat and wiped some of the sweat from around his eyes. It was foolish to insinuate in any way that he would put Wolf in danger, and he tried to quickly move the conversation along. “Was Miller killed? He hasn’t come back yet,” Trent asked.

- The Herakles -
- Bridge -

“Sir, Ensigns Court and Morrow have passed through the Kalinin unit’s security screen. No sign of anyone else,” the helmsman announced from his station in front of Capt. Berg’s command chair. Berg flopped back in his seat and cursed under his breath. He didn’t want another round of replacements cycled onto his ship so they could prove their incompetence - he wanted pilots who knew what the hell they were doing. Still, there was a chance Weeks was still alive and was simply lagging behind his subordinates. Berg sighed and looked over to the large display that showed approximate positions of the Titans ships that were retreating from the Gate. “At least the Dogosse Gier is escaping the area,” he said aloud, for the third or fourth time, “President Hymem and Capt. Bask are safe,”.

He knew that as long as that kind of strong leadership was in place, the Titans could continue to be effective. Bask Om’s methods didn’t phase him; they simply did what they had to do. They were forced to use harsh methods by continued resistance from spacenoid extremists. He had clear memories from the last war and enough from the current one to convince him the Titans were the answer to earth’s problems. “Yes, sir. The Dogosse Gier is still moving at 5% thrust, but she has almost completed her course correction,” came the answer from the comm station. He watched as the large wedge representing the flagship slowly rotated in the direction of the distant installation at Gryps. “Capt. Bask knows what is important,” he rationalized, envisioning Gryps 2 being put to use against the AEUG.

- Beta Team -

Wolf brought his Marasai to a halt. He shook with anger and frustration as he watched Fritz and Michiko move closer to the enemy fleet, and he tore his helmet off and threw it into the monitors, cracking the panel in front of him. He was about to throw away the beam rifle when he heard the crackle of enemy radio traffic and a harsh warning alarm that drew his attention to his left. It took all of his willpower to turn away from Ashlyn, and his Marasai ‘leapt’ upwards and a long arc that curved back towards the Titans lines as he vented his anger with a long drawn out growl. He turned on Jacob’s Rick Dias, his hatred still causing him to clench his teeth so hard that his jaw hurt.

A solid shell passed below him as he leveled off and came back ‘down’ at Markado, and a pair of beams streamed past as he raised his own beam saber again. He slammed into Jacob’s suit, crossing his beam saber with the enemy’s causing them to come to an abrupt stop. He shoved the younger pilot back enough to raise Jovi’s rifle, leveling it at the Rick Dias’ upper chest and head. “You picked the wrong man to ZOINKS with,” Wolf hissed, mashing the firing stud with his thumb. The beam rifle crackled with energy briefly and then nothing happened. Wolf’s eyes shot to the corner of the display - no charge.

“AAARGH!”

Wolf smashed the rifle into Jacob’s mobile suit, crushing it against the Rick Dias’ chest armor in an improvised punch fueled by pure fury as he pushed away into a move that twisted his Marasai around. He planted his feet against the floor, pushing the pedals down as far as they would go as he rocketed away from Jacob at full acceleration in the direction of Sven and the Kirov.

- Kalinin Team -

Alpha turned his Marasai around slowly with AMBAC movements to face the general direction of the remaining battle after the duo of Delta Team Barzams passed on their way back to their mother ship. “Sir,” Runnels spoke up, her voice eager, “There’s another suit headed in our direction. Doesn’t look like it’s a friendly,”. “Hmmm,” Alpha responded as his fingers glided over the controls, bringing up a magnified view of the area ahead of his team. Sure enough, a distant speck of… pink(?) backed by a thruster flare indicated another mobile suit headed for Taskforce Echo. “Looks like a lone unit from here. Everybody spread out a little and keep your eyes peeled,” he ordered, checking his fuel and weapons charges again. It could be a Marasai, but he didn’t want to take any chances.

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

- Outside the Gate of Zedan’s P Field -

- The Dervish -
- Bridge -

Wade pushed his sunglasses up and observed with a little surprise, “Ltjg. Heyden has launched again, sir. That was quick,”. Abbey watched the pink Rick Dias zoom back into P Field and nodded, “That was quick. Sager has his men do good work,”. He shifted in his seat as he tried to figure out what felt wrong about the situation, but then shrugged it off. “Rich must have squared him away enough to send him back out,” he said sounding warily pleased, mentally adding, “I sure as hell hope he didn’t need a security team to stuff Pan back into his mobile suit,”. The last thing he needed was an insubordinate pilot causing trouble in the middle of the hangar during a battle this important.

He didn’t have the luxury of time to wonder about Barrique’s motivational technique - things were quickly approaching a crucial point in the AEUG‘s plan. Time rushed down towards the ten minute mark. It was almost time to move into the final phase of the operation. Abbey cleared his throat and ordered, “Mr. Wilson, prepare signal flares. Set 1 stand by,”. “Aye, sir,” Wade replied, moving to put the commands into motion. Jane began to hail the other ships again, making sure the orders were properly relayed to every captain in the 4th Squadron. They had to stay coordinated like they had during the entire battle to avoid a disaster in the final moments. Abbey stood up and floated to take a spot next to the helm. He waited until the clock rolled under ten minutes and then turned to Wade.

“Mr. Wilson, fire flares, set 1,” he nodded crisply. Wade responded again, “Aye, sir,” and pushed a few buttons. After a moment, a trio of flares shot up from the Dervish. Shortly after they burst and began to glow, the other AEUG ships added their own. To any AEUG pilot from the 4th Squadron still operating in the field, the flares were the first signal covered in the pre-mission briefing - “stand by for tactical withdrawal for final barrage”. They would have roughly seven minutes to continue fighting while they were to position themselves to retreat behind the AEUG line as the ships fired their final barrage before the 3 minute mark. Then it was a full pullout to avoid damage as Axis collided with the Gate of Zedan. It was coming down to the wire, but the 4th Advance Squadron were doing everything they could to pull their weight.

- Hangar -

“Who authorized that? What the hell kind of circus is this?” Sager bellowed as he floated across the open space of the hangar. Pan’s sudden departure had temporarily thrown the area into chaos, and he couldn’t figure out who had told the pilot he was cleared to leave. Of course the jerks in the hangar control room had denied everything, and none of the crew on the floor were fessing up. Chief Polk chucked a wrench in the direction of a mechanic working on Marvin’s mobile suit. It clanged off the armor as Sager approached the now-empty bulk of Ian’s ruined Rick Dias. He shook his head and grimaced at the small blobs of blood that still wafted out of the mangled cockpit. He had seen a lot of things, but he still felt sick every time he saw a wounded pilot extracted from one of the machines he maintained. If anyone knew that mobile suits and their pilots were not invincible, it was him.

Sophie, who had coyly followed Rem to help work on one of the stationary suits, was shooed away after she tried to use a bulky impact wrench one-handed. She moved to a new spot and made herself useful by handing tools to one of the mechanics, and when the crew started to move to the grouping point to wait for more arrivals, she wandered over with them. She pushed her way into the small group and elbowed a crewman that wouldn’t move out of the way as she worked her way up to where Rem was waiting. “I think Wes and Ian are the only two with your new equipment that have come back so far. Greydon’s suit looks like crap but you probably got some data out of Wes’ Dias, right?” she asked, adjusting the way her hurt shoulder was stuffed into her normal suit.

- The New Yark -
- Bridge -

“Capt. Guanche, Sumitani and Chareux have landed safely. No word on the others…” the comm operator announced, trailing off quietly. The captain adjusted his glasses and nodded, letting the bridge crew get back to their work. Now that the flares had gone up, they couldn’t waste time worrying about their pilots. It was up to them to be in position in time now. Once the time ran out, P Field would be filled with mega particle fire again as they put up a final barrage to trap any ships still in range before the asteroid struck. Guanche’s hands rested calmly and the armrests of his chair as he watched the seconds burn away. “Not long now,” he said, “Everyone stand by. Make sure we’re still recording as we begin the withdrawal,”.

- Gate of Zedan, P Field -

- Team 1 -

Fritz rested his head back against his seat, his eyes closed as his MS was towed closer to the fleet. He sniffed sharply, trying to make sure his nose had stopped bleeding as he looked up to figure out the source of a new electronic alarm. “<<<PROPELLANT” blinked in large red letters, indicating a leak in the left binder. He wearily straightened up in his seat and coughed, barely tasting blood as he surveyed the damage. “Michi,” Fritz said quietly calling for her attention, his voice already hoarse. She hadn’t said anything since pulling him away from Wolf, but he had been able to hear her as she stopped faintly sobbing. After a few moments of silence, Fritz shook his head at the damage report and continued softly, “Michi, I have to jettison the binder; I’m leaking fuel. Let my suit go for a few seconds so I can blow the connection,”.

He thought he heard her meekly say “Okay,” before the skin talk connection was severed and his suit began to drift freely, but he wasn’t sure. For her to suddenly get this quiet scared him a little. He had seen soldiers shut out the world before, and it almost always made things worse for them. Thankfully the command to eject the binder worked on the first try, and soon the warning went silent leaving Fritz with nearly zero propellant. Michiko dutifully grabbed hold of his suit again, and they were soon on the move once more. The green bulk of the Dervish was growing in their HUDs as they crossed the boundary of P Field.

- Team 3 -

Celeste cradled the remains of Clute’s escape pod against the chest of her Rick Dias as she neared the edge of the field, and Jacob’s Rick Dias happened to catch her eye as Wolf turned to storm out of the area. “Jacob…” she murmured, turning to move closer. She had stopped crying, and felt like she was moving in slow motion. It was like she was watching a dream. “Jacob,” she said, louder once she switched back to Team 3’s channel, “We have to go back to the ship,”. She pulled the pod closer to her suit as if to protect it. “There were flares. We can’t stay,” she added, her speech still slow and dreamy.

Capt. Wald stayed glued to the spot after Julian caught his arm, and he was forced to listen angrily as Meighan pontificated at him in front of the bridge crew. He let his arm go and exited the bridge, announcing as he went, "Since you're busy directing this battle, I'll leave you alone to your commanding, Captain,”. As the doors of the bridge slid shut with a quiet hiss, Pizal spun around with a look of unadulterated hatred on his face. A vein bulged on his forehead as operators quickly averted their eyes to avoid drawing attention to themselves. Maybe he should have Meighan roughed up and thrown in the brig… No, that wouldn’t do. No matter how infuriating he was, he had somehow gained favor with Haman sama. Perhaps he could--

A sensor chirped at the station nearest to the door, and the same crewman who had been smacked earlier scrambled to turn it off. “Idiot!” Wald barked, slapping the helmet off of his head a second time. Pizal floated back to the center of the bridge and tried to take deep breaths to calm himself down. Dealing with Julian Meighan would take time and energy he couldn’t spare now. “Reyes!” he demanded, a little harsher than he intended, “Begin moving us away from the AEUG. We’re leaving the area,”. He pointed to the comm station and ordered, “Recall our mobile suits, and transmit our thanks and congratulations to the Dervish,”.

Gamma’s CO gave a cruel smile at Stukov’s acknowledgment of his ‘request’ but it visibly faded at Trent’s noncommittal answer. “Oh-well, it better than a flat-out ‘No’” he thought.
“Was Miller killed? He hasn’t come back yet,”
Trent’s question caused Nick to sigh explosively. “I don’t know, Drossel bowed out early in the game and I was starting to get harassed by those 4th squad goons and lost him in the fray. Yeah, can you believe it? What are the odds of another run-in with them in all this mess?” He deftly changed the subject and gestured out the window where the stray megaparticle fire and occasional pink blossom lit up space all around them. “Anyway, I think they got some new equipment too because they had a few more missiles and cannons than I remember a Rick Dias normally having. Oh but before I forget, is there a new, perhaps trial run suit on our side? ‘Cuz three of these blue f**kers ripped right though the Dias team I was engaged with. They killed 2 of ‘em in about 5 minutes then took off. It might be based off the Marasai, it looked similar but more… Deadly? Evil? ..Metal?” He searched for the right word to describe the Griffin. “Know anything about ‘em Trent?” he asked, also trying move the conversation, to gloss over his meeting with the Celeste and put it out of his mind lest Tariq gain the ability to read his thoughts. (Which Nick was sure he was actively trying to do)

-Buxoro, Hanger

"You did good out there Tyler, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. Now, do you need us to pop the hatch from out here or can you manage yourself?"
“Thanks J.G.,” Tyler said with genuine gratitude, “I should be alright though, stand clear of the hatch.” He popped the lock and the hatch opened, the bright hanger light spilled in, intensifying his already pulsing headache. He tumbled out ungracefully in front of Aaron and shielded his eyes in a kinda half salute.
“Well looks like we made it,” He looks back at the mess behind him “… Somehow.” Turning back to the XO he lets himself chuckle as the stress (and his nose) bleeds off. “Now, do you have an aspirin?”

Bridge

Robin floated behind Winter’s command chair in the chaos of the bridge.
“What went on up there?” Winter asks.
“I think there was a malfunction on landing,” answered Robin, “no one really willingly throws themselves into the crash-nets, but now everything seems alright. I’ll forward you the technical report when I get it,” Winter nodded. “Thankfully we all made it back but maintenance will take time,” he continued, “we only have one fully functional suit for defense at the moment and that’s Melton’s. Mine will need serious inspection and August’s is in no shape to launch, but we could maybe use Faraday’s in pinch.”
“We’ll worry about defense later Lieutenant,” Winter acknowledged looking at the countdown, “right now we just need to get the hell out of here.”
“Catherine!” he addressed a frazzled looking communications officer “Inform the Kirov that we are ready anytime they are. Helmsman! Make sure we are on the same heading as the Kirov, maintain distance. Weapons Control, keep the main guns hot and the AA on standby, god knows what might still come of this. Lookouts keep sharp!”
As the bridge crew scrambled about doing their delegated tasks Winter settled back into the chair looking tired, “Anything else Lieutenant?”
“Yes Sir,” Elijah said a bit quietly, “while we were out there we encountered a new type of Nemo, it had a shoulder slung, shell firing cannon, perhaps 260 or 280mm. Captain, our Hizacks are already on the verge of being out-maneuvered, but now they almost certainly are out-gunned as well. We’ll need something soon to either catch up them or start to neutralize advantages.”
Winter’s expression darkened while Robin spoke.
“I’m not sure what you want me to do?”
“I’m just asking for you to make it known to Echo command and have you and them be on the lookout for solutions or ways to get newer units, I guess I can’t ask for much more.
“I’ll see what I can do,” Winter sighed, “but like I said earlier we first need to get out of this mess. You and your team are on standby.” Edwin gave a crisp salute, “Dismissed.”
Elijah returned it, then kicking off went back down to the hanger.

Turning slightly to Korbel , his sneer hidden by the steel of the MS between them Graden Spoke. "Ensign, -now- you may begin your return." Switching to the Team's Channel and hoping minovsky interference wasn't too high he relayed his own addendum to the return order.

"Attention Bindra team, return in order of rank from lowest to highest." The reaason for this was twofold one if the rookies messed up they were less likely to cause much damage in a crash landing and the rookies wouldn't find themselves alone if a stray Titan pig decided to take some potshots at the group.

Karl was looking at the field charts trying to figure out the progression of battle when one of the bridge crew notified him that they’re reaching the next phase of the plan. Instinctively Karl gazed upon his personal watch and confirmed the time. Chris, his 2nd in command confirmed that they received notification from the flagship.

“Very well, Mr Jansen double checks our position. Make sure we’re on the correct position,” Karl said while returning to his seat. Jansen the ship’s navigator exchanged glance with the helmsmen. He turned around and faced the captain, “Ship is on the correct course and position, sir.”

“Maintain speed and course. Prepare flares, set 1 on my command,” Karl waited for the Dervish before lighting up his flares. As soon as the lookout saw the flares, the Balrampur joined the other ships and sent their own trio of flares.

Emington realized something was wrong with the Pink Rick Dias, but he felt it wasn’t his role to do something more about this. Soon he saw the flares being fired at his back, the direction of his fleet. He slowed down his suit and close up with Adam's Nemo.

"We’re out of time. Five or six minutes until complete withdraw from his sector,” Randy said while eying on the Axis and the Gate of Zedan, “I’m afraid there’s nothing else we can do to catch up with that Rick Dias… Let’s return home, we might able to help some guys on our way back.”

"Aye, sir" replied Adam and pulled his Nemo to a complete stop. Twisting around to face Randy suit directly Adam directed his suit's left hand to point back towards the approximate location of the 4th and jabbed the hands twice in that direction, before releasing a two second burn on his thrusters to return back that way.

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

- Balrampur Team –
- Lt. Folk

The battlefield was a mess, dozens of units came and gone. All fighting chaoticly in an area no more than 5 miles wide. The CO of the Balrampur Team lost track of his own team after getting chased by a pair of Hizack that coming from another direction.

He didn’t realize how long it was, but he already held the two of them for quite some times. The Hizack did another pincer tactics, trying to hold Folk’s suit with barrage of fire while the other one flanked him from another direction. No matter how much Folk tried to evade he cannot evade them all, especially when the second unit fired him from unpredicted close position. However, the Hizack gun remained ineffective at distance against the Nemo’s Gundarium Alpha.

Folk’s long duration of survival irritated the Hizack greatly that one of them resort to launching missiles when the Nemo appeared to be flinched from the attack. It was a mistake, Folk already waited for his opponents to make a mistake. Folk took his chances, leaped forward into action and fired three beams. Two beams struck dead centre at the Hizack, the pilot didn’t even tried to evade. The smoke trail from its own missiles blinded the pilot and the last thing he knew was the unbelievable heat before the Hizack exploded upward.

The second Hizack that tried to flank Folk coming from behind, he apparently already emptied his ammo and resorted to heat axe. It cleaved the Nemo’s shield, and the second attack struck the Nemo’s upper torso. Blinded by the sudden lost of image to his screen, Folk gambled his luck and aimed blindly toward his own left shoulder. Before the Hizack third attack landed, Folk’s last two rounds vaporized the Hizack’s internal mechanism. It produced two holes from the left knee straight to the right shoulder, the Hizack bent backward and erupted into a fireball.

The Nemo survived the sudden explosion and was about to move forward when the signal flares shine brightly at the horizon. Folk changed his direction and once again launched itself forward to look for his team. He caught a glimpse of something and then the cockpit began to shine even more bright than the signal flares before. Suddenly he remembered a small picture of him and his family that he kept in his wallet. For some reason now it felt really important and he wanted to remember all their faces and names. Folk wandered if he left the picture on the hanger room or did he brought it with him today. Fire and hot fumes erupted everywhere in the cockpit and then it was all over. Folk’s Nemo exploded after received a beam attack from behind. A Marasai followed by another one come close and circled twice before launched to another direction.

- Gate of Zedan Home Squadron –

Lt. Kandra always thought he was special, ever since he rose so fast through military ranks and accepted in the Titans he always felt that way. To him the destruction of Folk’s Nemo was just a confirmation of his superiority. He didn’t know that his poor aiming never reach its target. It was his comrade Ming, who scores the hit. But he would not even consider it as a possibility. In his mind, the newly arrived Ensign in his broken suit couldn’t possibly achieve such a feat.

As an officer, Kandra even received benefits like new suits and took the lead of a team, while he was still inexperienced. He never realized it was all to bribe his family to support the Titans in the political stage. As the second son, Kanda was just a pawn on both sides. After circling and satisfied himself on his first “kill”, Kandra left to hunt for another targets. He ignored Ming’s plead to return or regroup.

Ens. Ming regretted over his leader’s decision, his damaged Marasai already lost an arm and depleted half of its propellant. His team already lost two Hizack when his leader recklessly entered into the fray. Reluctantly Ming moved the throttle forward to follow his leader. Just then he saw Kandra’s Marasai fired two beams. The beams were fired at the Hamburg Team’s direction. Ming sighed when he saw his CO didn’t even slow down to get a better aim. Ming slowed his suit and fired one beam toward Adam’s Nemo.

- Hamburg Team -
- Randy

Emington watches as the battlefield erupted into a sudden chaos after the signal to withdraw. In 5 minutes this sector would be too dangerous even for MS to linger around. His took notice of several reading of activities in his screens, but most of them are too far to meddle. And then he found a single Nemo 1.5 miles ahead, he thought of assisting the pilot. Before he could do anything, he saw a distant explosion. There’s no more reading on that Nemo.

Unconsciously he sighed while witnessing another death in his screen. Just then another view popped up. A red framed suit coming from that direction. The suit camera still couldn’t track the IFF, the explosion in the background and the speed of the object hinder accurate reading. “Rick…,” and then Randy hesitated when he realized the subtle different in colours.

“Incoming! Marasai 10 o’clock direction,” Randy yelled to his comm. He jerked his control and added more speed. Beams already flying toward his last position. The first two were poorly aimed that Randy didn’t waste time to evade.

“In-kzzt-ing Mar-shh-ai! 10 o’c-bzzz-,”

"What! Randy, say again!"

Randy didn't need to however, as the Marasai's beams where answer enough. A split second warning was all Adam was given as the right leg off his Nemo was blown off, the propellent cooking off and exploding. In the cockpit, Adam was violently knocked abou, but was unhurt. He fought to bring his Nemo under control as the Marasai closed.

With the remaining verniers, firing in quick succession, the Nemo was slowed, now upside down relative to it's original orientation. The computer systems had acquired the Marasai and Adam fired three quick shots at the orange mobile suit and raised the shield to cover the torso.

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

~ Balrampur Team ~
- Johnathon Miller -

Johnathon was extremely focused on the air leak, only grunting at his ally's helpful beam rifle shot. The soft whistle had now grown into a high pitched one as he has already covered a majority of the hole previously. He grabbed two more from the same pocket on his normal suit and let one fly away, the second going soon afterward. They first covered above the large material and the second below in unison, ceasing the noise. At this time bright lights passed by Johnathon as he now realized his situation. The Hizacks had started retreating as he could barely see them now. Almost right after that, flares went up. He set communication on as to get in contact with the person, Rick Archer, who shot the beam rifle at the Hizacks.

"Excuse me, are you part of the Balrampur's mobile suit squadron? I think..."

The Nemo had been rotating the entire time and it was starting to confuse Johnathon. He turned the machine towards the direction of the bright lights, preparing to start his return as he continued to talk.

"... We should get back, correct?"

Assuming he was correct anyways, Johnathon already started the thrusters on his Nemo, propelling the massive hulk in the direction the lights had been. He thought to himself just how lucky we was that an ally saved him. He needed to be more focused on the battle, not trivial matters that could have been handled later. Johnathon was quite frustrated at his bad decisions and started to talk to himself.

"I can't believe I did that... So stupid! I'm shouldn't be doing things like that!"

Re: Episode 20 - The Gate of Zedan

Had Jacob been any more rational, he would have recognized Wolf and avoided fighting him single-handedly as much as possible. The Titan's ace had almost killed him not so many battles ago, after all.

At the moment though, Wolf's rage and bravado were nothing but music to his ears. Here was someone who would stand and fight. In a few moments one or the other of them would be dead. Jacob didn't much care which and he looked at the coming conflict with relish.

Every missed shot made him more feel more frustrated and useless and it all built into a whirlwind of hate and rage that consumed him by the time Wolf smashed his Marasai into Jacob's Rick Dias. The impact was enough to rock his head back and only his helmet saved him from a concussion or worse. For an instant he blacked out and when the lights in his head came back on, he was looking straight down the barrel of a beam rifle. A mad smile covered his face as he made a move to dodge the incoming attack, reaching out to sweep the rifle away.

He didn't know Wolf was out of ammo, and didn't care. All that mattered was that after failing to fire, his enemy ran.

"No! Come back! Come back! You coward!" he shouted, firing off several more rounds from his shoulder cannon at the retreating form. Most of them sailed off harmlessly into space but one caught an unsuspecting Hi-zack that had the misfortune of crossing behind Wolf. The resultant explosion obscured Jacob's view of his retreating enemy and when it faded, the chaos was too great for him to find his target.

Celeste's voice came to him then, her suit close enough to his that her message was clear even through the Minovsky. He didn't look at her, didn't see what she was holding.

"No! No! They killed Clute. They're all going to pay. Shut up! Shut the ZOINKS up!" There would be no way for Celeste to know but his last words were directed at his suit which was once again warning him of low propellant.

He was getting ready to boost away when something occurred to him.

"Ok," he replied, simply and turned about. He put on maximum thrust back toward the Dervish. He wanted to get there and get refueled as fast as he could. With a full tank of propellant he'd just be able to kill that many more Titans.
Yep...That's Texas in a nutshell. Why just say "f**k you" when you can put it on a flag?

-Rick Archer-

"yes. ... Correct." Rick responded to each question with a soft but terse answer as he himself adjusted his heading. He took note that his propellant now read 20%. Had the other Nemo been too dmaged to continue Rick would not have been able to tow the pair back in time.

He moved towards the Balrampur in silence not speaking to the other pilot at all.

Dervish
- Hangar -

Rem was so distracted by the mess that was left of Ian's MS that he almost didn't notice Sophie working her way over.

"...Oh..um...yeah, that's a good point." He shook his head and turned to face her again. "Yeah, I suppose I'd better. I would love to see what data is left from...well, what's left of it. Easy stuff first, though, those guys will probably be sent back out." He proffered her the satchel with the bulk of the data acquisition unit, a long cable and the connector head sticking out. "Can you lend a hand?" He grinned as he kicked off the floor towards Wes's mostly intact Dias.

He worked his way between the mechanics swarming the suit to the access port and plugged in. Just shy of a minute later (thanks to slightly improved data dump algorithms) the unit beeped and the mechanics shooed them out of the way, needing to run through a final check in that area.

“Well looks like we made it… Somehow. Now, do you have an aspirin?”

He tried to stifle the chuckle that started to well up as Tyler showed great spirit after everything that had happened. But he couldn't help himself.

"Sorry," said Aaron with a grin, "But I'm fresh out. Well get you to sick bay though, make sure everything is where its supposed to be in the ol' noggin."

As he said that two medical staff floated up to them. "Excuses me Lt. J.G, put we need to help out the Ensign here."

Aaron moved aside as one of them looked into Tyler's eyes. The second handed him a flash light and shined it into his eyes.

"How are you feeling Ensign? Any nausea, severe headache?"

Tim then came floating up by Aaron and whispered something, "I think they think he has a concussion."

"Shh, don't get him nervous," he replied.
