Re: Didn't know the Gabthley had a Scattering Beam Cannon
The power of friendship trumps power of mecha combat and mastery of one's mecha suit, I suppose.

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Mecha Thread Mk II
IIRC Gallus-J had hip storage for its sabers, like a lot of Neo-Zeon designs. I would also like to endorse Desert Gelggog and Kapool sightings.

Re: Didn't know the Gabthley had a Scattering Beam Cannon
A lot of MS secondary equipment is mentioned to give some idea of its capability. Will the director and writers remember to use it in a meaningful context? Not necessarily.... Now, the Dom's scattering beam gun was more of a blinding trick than a real weapon because it was underpowered. The Gabthley...

Re: Z'Gok early type and later type(S Type)
Well given that the Z'gok is a leader-type MS anyway, wouldn't make sense to upgrade across the board to the more powerful S model? It would be a needful wartime modification, not too much a stretch. Or are we to believe that the basic Z'gok never changed, and was supposed to be supplanted by the Ty...

Re: Infantry Firearms in the Universal Century?
So they never bother to invent new firearms in the future, relying on tried and true that has been around since before space immigration? :| I guess everything goes into Mobile Weapons and stuff. In terms of cureent-day firearms tech, the designers have pretty much exhausted the possibilities. Every...

Re: Canon Side Stories-Gundam
It sounds like this is something of a cultural difference between East and West, particularly when the use of the word "canon" enters the discussion. We in Europe and the Americas are predominantly Christian cultures, where "canon" has a very well-defined meaning, coming from th...

Re: Comic Books (other than manga)
I haven't been able to spend money on comics like I used to, but I still get Usagi Yojimbo. To me the adventures of the long-eared samurai are still consistently the best thing out there.

Re: The Official Gundam AGE Anime Thread Mk 1
I'm definitely going to watch this show, since it has a couple of different-sounding things about it. Of course, even if it didn't have the different-sounding things, I would still watch it, because it's GUNDAM!! Oh yeah, and I'm betting the "alien invaders" are about as alien as those &qu...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Mecha Thread Mk II
Interesting! Technically, the wording in the kit manual seems to be saying that the Federation Forces requested its development in U.C. 0090, so it's not clear when it was actually completed . Interestingly, this was the same year the Londo Bell was formed, so perhaps the Delta Plus and the Re-GZ w...

Re: What's Your Current Anime? Mk III
Beelzebub: Lots of fun, with an antihero whom I can gleefully cheer on through his epic battles & adventures in babysitting. And Aoi Kunieda proves tough girls can be moe too. Stein's Gate: Absolutely did NOT like this the first couple of episodes, but a friend persuaded me to carry on...and it...

Re: Good Gundam Manga?
1. Gundam: The Origin which nicely retells the original story while adding in some missing features, and letting Yaz & Okawara share some ideas that didn't get used the first time around. The US print run can be found online or at stores. 2. Portrait of a Young Comet: Char's Deleted Affair which...

Well, since you asked, here's my own non-official take on it. BTW you left Outer Gundam and Double Fake off the list , but since neither story is in any way official, it's OK. :) UNIVERSAL CENTURY MS Igloo: This one has been animated, and features canon events from Original MS Gundam, and has some c...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Anime Thread Mk IV
ZZ MS get more love, with some of the older MS tossed in as well. Very nice indeed. B) The older Zeon MS really aren't that obsolete, except compared to the Unicorn & Jesta unit. The Z'gok has beam weapons and piston-backed claws. The Zaku Cannon & Zaku Sniper have beam guns. The Desert Dowa...

Re: Broken Blade
This sereies is doing very well. The anime is not only faithful to the manga, but complements it in the mecha battles by excellently adapting the mecha battles to a pseudo-3D presentation. For a good example of this, see movie #2 where Rygarto spins Derflinge on its own giant sword to evade fire and ...

Re: David v. Goliath
Just about every Gundam episode that pits the hero one-on-one with a mobile armor has that feel to it, or is supposed to. (Zakurello aside, anyway...) The typical mobile armor is a definite "Goliath", huge, armed to the teeth, seemingly invincible. The "David" Gundam can't win in...

Re: What do you want to see in the next Gundam series?
I'm not really sure what difference a female lead would really make, to be honest. I mean, it's not like Gundam is going to go plumbing the murky depths of gender roles for subtle and nuanced commentary on femininity in the traditionally masculine time of war. Considering anime today, a female prot...

Re: Infinite Stratos
Infinite Stratos is so far a fun little mecha show. The story is enjoying itself introducing all the characters, although I expect about episode 8 they will follow the usual trend of shelving the fluffy funny stuff in favor of confronting the real threat. The mecha suits are interesting, and the fe...

Re: What's Your Current Anime? Mk II
Currently watching Star Driver, Infinite Stratos, Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka, Dragon Crisis, Freezing and Kimi ni Todoke 2 . There's something about a mecha hero who can pilot a giant robot named "Galactic Pretty Boy" without being the least bit embarrassed. Infinite Stratos nicely mixes nifty...

Re: Vintage MS: Playing With Specs
I can appreciate the example of the Galbaldy Beta, although we might also ask Kou how he enjoyed flying the GP series MS. :) Good point on rotational thrust as a result of abruptly changing direction. Granted, a lot of the animation shows MS intentionally rolling for evasion or pursuit purposes, but...
