Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

So, I was just talking with a friend of mine about combat aircrafts, and he noted how weird is it that people rarely makes movies or games about machines like the A-4 Skyhawk, the Sabre and the F-5 while they have participated in some pretty important conflicts. Almost all of the attention centered ...

Re: How much damage could 60mm vulcan guns could actually do?

Speaking of the misuse of the term "vulcan", shouldn't the Rick Dias's vulcan phalanx be considered one such case? It look like a single-barrel heavy machine gun to me. And considering the size of the projectile, the barrel looks tiny. On a related note, I wonder how do they arrange all th...

Re: How much damage could 60mm vulcan guns could actually do?

Say, if the 60mm is kind of ackward to be used in a head-mounted vulcan gun, would a reduction of caliber bring any good? I remember the Victory uses a smaller caliber, and likewise with Strike Freedom and Destiny to the Freedom and Impulse respectively.

Re: How much damage could 60mm vulcan guns could actually do?

One PGU-13/B or PGU-14/B round on its own, yeah... that's why the GAU-8/A fires 65 rounds per second. What one round couldn't accomplish alone, sustained high-volume fire with armor-piercing munitions potentially can. A tank's main armor is not solid metal, but a matrix of ceramics and composites c...

How much damage could 60mm vulcan guns could actually do?

You know, I have heard that while the GAU-8's 30mm could not penetrate the Abram's armor from the front, it could absolutely do so from the rear and the top. And even if the bullet did not go through, the tank crew will suffer one hell of a shake up. So I am wondering how damaging the 60mm vulcan gu...

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I

Is whatever Hasegawa doing tied to the 20th Anniversary project or G-Savior? Dust is 54 years before G-Savior, I think. Anyway, have anyone noticed some online reviews that said they understood nothing of Hathaway because they hadn't watched CCA and the original Gundam? I think there is one on the A...

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I

Eh... I think that ship sailed quite some time before the events of Hathaway's Flash . Anaheim Electronics had already learned as early as the Gryps Conflict that there was a LOT of money to be made from selling weapons to all sides to ensure that conflicts continued into the future. By the time of...

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I

You know, if Funnel missiles become more popular and cheaper, wouldn't it bring MA back in vogue? I mean, in term of using space efficiency and the amount of things carrying internally and externally, MA has an advantage over MS.

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Anime Thread Mk I

This really, really feels like just a coincidence, but does anyone feel like there is something to muse about the monstrous designs of Xi and Penelope and their relationship to war? I always have this feeling like the Penelope is being presented as a "caged force of nature", like, everyone...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

If a few shots in that trailer are on the mark, Hayate's final VF will be a blue YF-29. :? How rich is Xaos again, presume that they built the YF-29 themselves and not "borrowing" it from SMS or UN Spacy (the YF-29B, anyone?) And personally, I'd have liked it more if they gave him a YF-30...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Almost every major model of VF has had a Super Pack of some description. The actual fighter itself is lightly redesigned, while the pack seems to be almost unmodified from the version that's used in the TV series and first movie. Yeah, I know. It's just that the design just bores me. I hope that th...

Though the glowing lines somehow makes me think of a machine controlled by brainwaves. Secondly, anyone think that the robotic voice of the trail...

Connection between the Jegan A2 (Unicorn) and Jegan Type A (F91)

Until today I had thought that the reason they named the Jegan A2 as it was is because they want to avoid confusion with the Jegan Type A. But now I realize how similar their backpacks, shoulder and leg thrusters are. Do you think there is a real connection between these two models? Do you feel like...

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

Also, if anyone want to talk about successful mass production of a Gundam, what about the F91? It really shows how well designed that machine is that the mass-production version could still go toe-to-toe with Jupiter MS decades later.

Re: Amuro and the Zeta Series

According to this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7NvccyHaHc) and a few other related ones from the same channel, the Federation government was stingy to Londo Bell because they worried the organization would become too powerful like the Titans. Furthermore, it seems like in the Beltorchika'...

Speculating what happened to Char between 0089 and 0091

IMHO the thought of creating Neo Zeon was not in Char's mind when he escaped the Hyaku Shiki. He probably thought to just lay low for a while and see where things would go. (Char has always been an opportunist. Just look at the way he took his time to kill the Zabis.) This is when things went south....

Re: Some observations and questions about 80s cartoons

Broadcast standards and practices aren't entirely self-imposed... there are some FCC rules and guidelines that are also involved which can lead to fines and other punishments for violators. Like the Comics Code Authority and the Entertainment Software Rating Board, the TV networks established Broad...

Re: Some observations and questions about 80s cartoons

Oh, the kids TV shows got shades of "moral guardian" outrage too... but they got less of it, because they were already in sort of a self-censorship mode due to American broadcast content regulations. So you could have kids shows that had violence, but in many time slots you couldn't get a...

Some observations and questions about 80s cartoons

I recently talked to a French-Vietnamese who went to America in 1980s to study, and among other things we talked a bit about 80s cartoons. He raised some good points and questions that I would like to bring up here: 1. There was a lot of entertainment for children in the 80s, but there was also a de...
