Re: Capabilities of the Turn A Gundam

Fair point, but we can modify the analogy to a magnet being able to levitate a piece of metal off the ground but force required to equal gravity isn't necessarily strong enough to stop that piece of metal if it's dropped from a high enough distance. This is true, up to a point... it really depends ...

Re: Spreading Minovsky Particles

So in Mobile Suit Gundam's world building, the reason that warfare is conducted at short range is that Minovsky particles interferes with or damages unshielded electronics, rendering long range guided missiles moot and in this universe warfare is similar to WW2 ship broadsides at a long distance. M...

Re: Capabilities of the Turn A Gundam

[No I caught all that the first time, the raft of Minovsky particles is creating an upward force on the mobile suit to either equal or exceed the force of gravity pulling it downwards allowing it to hover / ascend / descend. That said my hand can comfortable hold a 35kg weight above my head providi...

Re: Bang Brave Bang Bravern

Another episode down and I am still not sure what to make of this series. Bravern's kind of a complete arsehole and Isami clearly does NOT want any part of this story, which kind of makes the whole thing a bit unpleasant to watch. That it keeps trying to have it both ways with the Human characters d...

Re: Spreading Minovsky Particles

So I'm hoping you all can help with a related question since I haven't been any to find anything conclusive yet. I'm specifically asking regarding Mobile Suits and smaller craft since I know that some Mobile Armors (Big Zam, Aspalus, Adzam) can already do this. Can mobile suit(s) or small support u...

Re: Capabilities of the Turn A Gundam

I'm not sure I'm following this one, the Minovsky Craft generating lift on a large physical object is a bit different than stopping a high velocity bullet isn't it? It's not actually generating aerodynamic lift, which is why I put "lift" in quotes... what it's actually producing is repuls...

Re: Capabilities of the Turn A Gundam

I don't recall any of the I-Fields in the show necessarily blocking physical projectiles? If you want to get technical about it, the Minovsky Craft system is a rather large-scale unconventional example... Also you mentioned an I-Field on Turn A's shield, is that confirmed in the kit manual? It's me...

Re: Capabilities of the Turn A Gundam

Yes I recall from the discussion regarding unusual weapons a ways back that the Turn A even uses I-Fields to control its Gundam Hammers. The Turn A still has thrusters though right? I recall it using some sort of propulsion when it was underground in the Corrin Nander episode. Yeah, the Turn-A stil...

Re: Bang Brave Bang Bravern

So... I started this series tonight because someone actually specifically sought me out and asked me if I was watching it and what I thought of it. I'm just gonna kind of run with the commentary while I watch. Honestly, the first thing that stood out to me is that the studio did not do a very good j...

Re: Metallic Rouge

Watching the third episode of Metallic Rouge now, and apart from the previous episode apparently being a 22 minute plot tumor with no bearing on the story going forward the writing really has not improved at all. It's not as pants-on-head idiotic as The Price of Smiles , but it ain't great. It's bac...

Re: Metallic Rouge

Watched the first two episodes earlier today, and it's doin' nothing for me. Wanting to start in medias res is a fine storytelling technique, but to make it work you have to either have a lot of time to build up to things and a story compelling enough to keep the audience around for it or be extreme...

Re: Capabilities of the Turn A Gundam

I had a few question regarding the capabilities and limits on the unusual technology in the Turn A Gundam (https://www.mahq.net/system-a99/). Here's three to start: Quite a lot of questions regarding the Turn-A and Turn-X don't have answers, because their incredible capabilities are products of the...

Re: Expanded Universe Details?

It is not just an adaptation, it got its own original stories. They have overlapping parts, but you also get more than the OVA. It is a limited example of an expanded universe, not a full fledged one. It's not in continuity with the animated material, though... so it's not really an expanded univer...

I'm not aware of any... and TBH I've never seen any art books for the series, just contemporary media coverage in hobby press.

Re: Armored Trooper artificial muscles

Having an artificial muscle system actually makes a lot of sense for the Scopedog, as its more maneuverable and actually quite a bit smaller than other real robots. From what the Master File has to say on the subject, it seems that the size of ATs is unconnected to the use of muscle cylinders. It c...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Do you think all the projects will be Kickstarters? Or will some see mass retail release? They'll all see retail release. As Chris noted, doing it by Kickstarter first is just Animeigo's way of doing things. They use Kickstarter more as an elaborate preorder system than a "fund the entire proj...

Re: Expanded Universe Details?

Tenchi first OVA and manga both started in 1994.(funny that the manga doesn't credit the anime staff at all and the author only lists the mangaka) That's not an example of an Expanded Universe work, though... the 1994 manga is an adaptation of the OVA not an original work, and Shin Tenchi Muyo! has...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Unfortunately we have yet to see any Macross products to appear oficially :( so far no Seven or Frontier or Delta or Zero spotted anywhere. We're starting to see stuff trickle in... for instance, Animeigo recently concluded a Kickstarter campaign for the Blu-ray release of Macross II: Lovers Again ...

Re: Armored Trooper artificial muscles

So, I had the chance to go and review the Scopedog Master File, and the description of the artificial muscle system is something called a "MC-PR type circuit" that is described as a type of pseudo-biotechnology for controlling the expansion and contraction of synthetic fiber bundles throug...

Re: Armored Trooper artificial muscles

I'm not very familiar with VOTOMS lore as a whole, but I do recall reading something about that in Master File Armored Trooper ATM-09-ST Scopedog. A quick skim says the section about the muscle cylinders starts around page 55.
