Re: Which design feature should a remote combat robot have?

I'd rather have a hovering/wing-in-surface-effect craft rather than land-use drones if air bourne ones are common. I think I am talking on Mt Stupid here, or at most in the valley of despair, thus I am quite reluctant to reply, anyway, fixed-wing drones will have pretty different looks according to...

Re: Space Colonies: How close are we to making them?

I don't think a nation that did not participate in signing the treaty itself will be able to violate the treaty in any real sense. The issue is that any major space-faring nation that doesn't ratify the OST will quickly find themselves faced by international sanctions or otherwise held to its stand...

Re: Space Colonies: How close are we to making them?

As far as the Outer Space Treaty is concerned though... doesn't that only apply to Countries that exist on Earth? (i.e. Earthnoids?) What if you really wanted to move to space and be independent? I think that's technically correct, but it's something of a paradox. If you have created a settlement o...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk

I'm just trying to better understand the dynamics between different characters, since the interactions between adults and children seems to be a major theme... I suppose that means everyone in Tekkadan is under the age of 18 perhaps? I generally assume that a given anime adheres to the Japanese per...

Re: Which design feature should a remote combat robot have?

It depends on what type of remote control structure you're interested in. Are these robots semi-autonomous (mostly able to function without remote control but needing human input for weapons use and periodically for certain tasks), direct dependent control (human continuously in the loop, robot can ...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Mecha Thread Mk I

Thanks for the prompt response, Seto Kaiba. I see. That's about when I'd expect them to start the TSU, as it's a countermeasure against the Var that we now know couldn't have been a problem before the end of Frontier . It occurs to me that the more relevant question for me to ask is: What do we abou...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Mecha Thread Mk I

Kaos was originally an interstellar communications firm, but expanded and diversified into other industries including msuic production and private military contract services. Kaos's PMC operation provided supplemental defenses for many planets in the Brisingr cluster, and also provided Var syndrome...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Mecha Thread Mk I

As seen in previous shows, just because the federal forces are calling the shots doesn't necessarily mean their troops are actually present. I haven't seen 7 yet, but were senior federal personnel present in those circumstances, seemingly serving as the captain or flag officer of a ship or flotilla...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

As far as Mikumo's concerned, I think most of the theories I've seen about her are at least partially correct. She has an air of mystery about her that she herself seems unable to explain or account for, with flashbacks showing mist-covered Protoculture structures that seem to have surfaced in moder...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Mecha Thread Mk I

Wright appears to have been Arad's CO at some point during Arad's career. Unless there's a detail about fleet composition that I'm forgetting and can't find by a few quick searches, that doesn't help us very much; do we know what particular service Arad was in? He called it the 77th Air Wing in Ep....

Man, I wish I could remember these dudes's names. Herman (the 33-year-old), Cassim/Qasim (the knight-no-longer), Theo and Xao (the hair twins, don't ask me which is which), Uroh (sp?, who died on his first flight in Ep.6) and Berger (sp?, Epsilon's Ali Al-Saachez). Gramia was also a whopping 35. As...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

I've harbored suspicions toward Arad for a while now, with Ep.18 motivating me to review past episodes to examine him further. That examination produced mixed results, but raised further questions about Johnson and Lady M. I can't help feeling like Arad, Johnson and Lady M are up to something nefari...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Mecha Thread Mk I

No word on that at present, but it's especially hard to tell in his case as the Brisingr cluster's individual worlds seem to have formed a kind of "Space NATO" alliance (the Brisingr Alliance) for mutual defense. The hints about where Wright Immelmann served all point to worlds in the Bri...

Re: Is "attack use" a misnomer?

"Strike-use" may be quite a bit more specific than it seems. "Strike fighter" is a designation used to identify small, fighter-like platforms that are designed primarily for anti-ground and anti-surface operations while still performing well as an air-to-air fighter; you can thin...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

I hate to have to break this unfortunate news but I don't think I will be able to finish this series. :( I keep feeling like the last great Macross entry was Plus and this show is too kiddy and glittery for my liking despite having several moments of darkness. I'll probably watch Zero again since I...

Re: Space Colonies: How close are we to making them?

I always thought "building" of the rings are not really that hard, "keeping" them there is. Building is simple, first you start with just a cable, at the correct orbital speed at various connection weights, form a thin ring, but don't connect them yet, start building on top of i...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

They spend 16 episodes establishing the mutual attraction between Hayate and Freyja and now they're throwing in reasons why they can't be together so Mirage can swoop in for the win. I'm on to your game, Macross Delta! You can't really call it "throwing in reasons" when certain parts of t...

Re: Space Colonies: How close are we to making them?

Outer Space Treaty The OST, and related treaties, are almost humorously arbitrary and out-of-date. For one thing, it does allow for the militarization of space, as long as such militarization does not involve the use of weapons on the moon or other significant celestial bodies (pretty much anything...

Re: Space Colonies: How close are we to making them?

If I recall right, the inner ring is much thinner than the outer ring, and the outer ring seems to be much more solid than the elevator shaft and the inner ring, which usually is shown as having a lot of space inside the shell. The outter ring also consist of multiple structures like the actual sol...

Re: Space Colonies: How close are we to making them?

From what I can find on the Orbital Elevator System depicted in 00, it would seem they were built using magic or anti-gravity technology that numerous characters have clearly indicated they did not possess. As for the main shafts, the Orbital Elevators only extend to 50,000 km, which would only be f...
