Re: State of the Mecha Genre

Half the reason it's so funny is because it's so often true... though to a certain extent it's those fans trying to justify having bought three or four copies of a given light novel, manga volume, etc. to collect all the different extras the book comes with that are exclusive to a particular chain ...

Re: Space Colonies and Water

So how do space colonies get their water? its shown that the soil and metal can get harvested from the asteroids; and the plants and wildlife can be brought up in limited qualities from earth, but where does the colonies water come from? You have quite a lot of water if you are mining the Moon, 5.6...

Re: Zaku II F2 Anti-Air Weapon

As for weapons theory, no kidding they need an AA version of their gun. Most federation equipment was air at the beginning of the one year war. It'd also be effective against MS and tanks. I'm sure they tried using standard weapons to kill airplanes, and when that didn't work too well, they made th...

Re: Zaku II F2 Anti-Air Weapon

Ah that's right! The red portion of the original RX78-2 was from the Core Fighter. In that case I suppose we can still chalk it up to Gundam having that super robot influence from transforming / combining shows like Combattler V. More of a rule of cool than anything practical. I am surprised with t...

Re: State of the Mecha Genre

I love how the mecha genre is also getting a lot of attention in China: https://twitter.com/_MRXu https://twitter.com/Phoenix_BFB And I hate it how they still blatantly copy off of others when a lot of their own designs are perfectly validly cool. They especially love challenging the legal limits(ho...

Re: State of the Mecha Genre

Speaking as someone who's been watching giant robot stuff since the early '80's, I have the following to say: -GuP & Kotobuki are great, especially since Mizushima knows the genres & his Hollywood references well. It's interesting how Kotobuki was analogous to DCS in the first episode, then...

Re: Zaku II F2 Anti-Air Weapon

Absolutely agree, an escape vehicle cares more about speed than armor. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't part of the corefighter exposed after docking with the Gundam? I haven't been able to find a video of either the original RX 78-2 or the Zephyranthes docking but I could have sworn part of the c...

Re: State of the Mecha Genre

Girly Air force, lame name aside, is another basically Ace Combat with Moe Waifus. Specifically Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere. the Anima planes is Nemo with anime skins while filling in the 3 "plot" sizes. Senyoku no Sigrdrifa meanwhile is Ace Combat Zero with that one AC game with usable WW...

Re: State of the Mecha Genre

basically Ace Combat with moe waifus. Notice Gunbuster(Aim for the Top!) is Top Gun crossed with "Aim for the Ace!"(and they put the Gun part in Gunbuster, I can't believe I didn't notice this until now.) Noriko, Kazumi and Jung are waifus of that period. Ace Combat with moe waifus is per...

Re: Zaku II F2 Anti-Air Weapon

the anti air mag is shown on the line-art for the MMP-78 Machine Gun Yes, but the current merchandise design of the magazine is new.(officially claim on that product page, from what I am seeing, it is a little bit bigger than the line art and a lot bigger than the HGUC) Hmmm. That does make me wond...

Re: Zaku II F2 Anti-Air Weapon

Good afternoon everyone, I was looking at the Robot Spirits Zaku II F2 figure coming out in November and noticed something interesting. From the press release: "The Zaku Machine Gun can be changed to a new anti-aircraft magazine model". Looking at the pictures the anti-aircraft model appe...

Re: Time Needed to Finish a Space Colony

Given the circumstances it seems as though colony construction probably happens quicker that would practically happen in real life(maybe 3-5 years?). If they were six colony clusters with forty colonies each( Side 7 was the newest), then that would equate to roughly 240 colonies across the Earth Sp...

Re: Time Needed to Finish a Space Colony

And I'm to assume that colony in question isn't Laplace from Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn? Laplace is currently the first colony completed, so it technically retconned the older setting. The problem is that it is not an Island 3 type and not in L5/Side 1. So, it may not be counted as a migration(beca...

Re: SRW anime or video games?

Thanks for the info. I'll admit that I found the first series storyline very straightforward. However the second becomes easier to follow once all of the characters are introduced. I agree that there is a lot of original content to adapt to SRW anime (and the games seem very popular, plus it's alwa...

Re: SRW anime or video games?

Which one? The OVA pick up right after the end of OG2, so the knowledge is need. Divine War is adaption of OG1, no game knowledge is require (although you might miss some gag, especially the Astranagant's role) . OG2 the Animation is adaption of OG2. So you require either knowledge about OG1 or fin...

Re: SRW anime or video games?

I'd say you might want to at least know the original stories adapted from SRW 3~4 to understand what is the Divine Crusaders, because OG picks up from the end of 4.(Actually, the adaptation expansion version F and F Final) Basically the SRW story branched into the Alpha series and OG series after F ...

Re: State of the Mecha Genre

How did the show go? i dropped it around episode 7 or 8. there wasnt something missing there for me. here's something to consider, if the mecha genre is dead then why do other shows/mangas what have you makes references to OLD mecha shows. i think that nice quote was from one piece. someone truly d...

Re: State of the Mecha Genre

Deca Dence is kinda mecha.
At least a giant moving castle that has giant hands punching monsters is Super Robot mecha genre enough.
(you can also see a lot of other mecha tropes in it)

Re: Kou uraki after 0083?

It is kinda odd that we never see any of the characters from side stories again. Granted aside from Kou And Christina there's not that many who would still be in the military come later wars. I know many of the side stories came out after the series their tied to, but they could still cameo in newe...
