Re: Pilot curriculum

Well, computer assist and more computer assist. At least in UC, AE manufactured military MS has pretty much the same controls as small worker bots like the MMS and JMS manufactured by AE. Convinient, isn't it? I assume you can always decrease the assistance rendered by the computer, but almost anyo...

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Mecha Thread Mk I

Has the Gundam Ground Type ever been shown in Origin timeline (in the manga)? I remember reading somewhere that the Gundam Local Type, which itself is made of spare parts, contribute in the development of the Ground Type. But how? Like "The Local Type give the EFF knowledge on how to put up units fr...

Mecha Musume discussion thread

We discuss about the various Mecha Musume series here, from the classic MS Girl to modern lines such as Busou Shinki, Frame Arms Girl, etc. Including anime and light novel like Strike Witches, Infinite Stratos, Hundred, etc. So, let me started by saying that Mecha Musume designs are in stagnant righ...

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

How does anyone here think of the scene between the golden-trimmed Zaku (Royal Guard?) and the GM at the beginning of the episode? I just don't understand why didn't the Zaku pilot make a conscious retreat to the nearest cover - standing right there and shooting at an enemy you know your bullet won'...

Anyone here know when did slid-eyes designs (Like the Temjin in Virtual On) began to become popular?

Re: How can we have another long-running toy franchise?

...You somehow include Eva (1994) but neither Zoids (1982) nor Super Sentai (1975). Especially Zoids, which mostly rely on toys themselves instead of lets anime driving them. May be you should start by give definition of "long-running toy franchise". Thanks for reminding me about that. In Vietnam, ...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Say, if the Megaroad-01 is found, then how old would Misa, Hikaru, and Minmay be? I'd rather not see wrinkles on their face.

Also on the matter, how do you think of the improvements human have made with the Macross-class?

How can we have another long-running toy franchise?

Ok, I've to get this out of my chest first: Merchandises decide wether a mecha series will at least have a legacy or not. Think of Macross, Gundam, and Evangelion. With that said, how can a studio success in making a show that would launch a new toy franchise? Good storyline, good visual, good chara...

Re: Gaza A, Gaza M, Zaku III Recon Type & More From Advance Of Zeta Reboot

After being teased a few volumes ago with its torso, we are finally introduced to the Gaza A in Advance of Z Reboot: http://hobby.dengeki.com/aoz/illust/reboot12/ Also, the Gaza C gets a marine variant, the AMX-003M Gaza M, which seems to have a lot in common with AMX-008M from previous volumes. Mo...

What does Haman have to do with anything? This is set long after she's dead.
Wasn't she the one commissioned the development of the Tristan and red Zaku III custom? Or at least that is what I heard.

And anyone here has any grip with the Tristan's legs? I admit that they look unique, but god damn they are ugly. They should had gone with the Mk-II's or the Nu's legs.

Re: Pilot curriculum

Now imagine how much more complex it has to be to learn how to control a twenty-meter-tall, sixty-ton giant, humanoid robot. On top of all the stuff above, you have to worry about the even more daunting challenge of piloting what has to be, objectively, the LEAST efficient possible design for a mob...

Pilot curriculum

One aspect many mecha shows tend to overlook is pilot training - it seems to me that becoming mecha pilots is as easy as born under the right parents. Of course, we all know that is a load of bollock - If anything, mecha are way more complex than our modern tanks, APC, helicopters, etc Just imagine ...

Re: What part of the Minovsky Particle itch you?

You may want to be a bit more familiar with the settings of M particles... Anti-beam coating isn't a part of the Minovsky tech, but a nano-level abrasive coating that vapourizes when it is heated and carry away a large amount of heat energy. I'd speculate that it also forms a vapour wall that block...

What part of the Minovsky Particle itch you?

First, I want to make a comparision between Zombie Virus and Minovsky Particle. A fictional setting may need a somewhat sounded explaination for all of its out-of-this world elements. Zombie Virus fits this bill to the T - a deathly, incurable disease, capable of doing the impossible - detroying the...

Re: The charm of semi-canon mechs

Hmm... So the "gap-filling" effect does play some role in this matter. So, in that logic, can I ask this: Do you like a semi-official design with fleshed-out story better, or something that does not? I do think that thanks to Ark Performance, the semi-cannon designs in Gundam are gaining traction, s...

The charm of semi-canon mechs

Why is the mecha fandom is in love with semi-canon - a.k.a originated from spin-offs - machine? Is it because the artists are free to express their original ideas (such as with Getter Robo mangas)? Or is it because there is always little screen time for those machines and as such they become more my...

Actually, in a sequel manga to Origin, Amuro was discharged and then he decided to move back to Side 7 and assisted the reconstruction effort there. Dunno what happened next, though.

What aesthetic features you expect on mecha designs of different ages?

Anyone can tell that mecha designs can be categorized into the ages which they originate. But then, what aesthetic features that charactirize the uniqueness of an era? For example, in my opinion, the uses of overly-sharp angles began to occur with designs in the late 90s.
