Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

Pretty sure BFK was talking about flight capable MS not Dodai riding MS. Taking off the legs of MS on Dodais would be a pretty bad idea. The Dodais and similar craft get shot down pretty often and if that happened to a Dodai carrying a legless MS, the MS would be screwed, provided the pilot and MS w...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

Off topic but if the A-10 is actually dropped by the Air Force I hope the Army, & Marines, can get them instead. Not that it really matters but I doubt a Zaku would bother with it's shield against aircraft all that often, only because then they lose the ability to shoot at the aircraft when it i...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

the staff tend to be so completely obsessed with Zeon-worship that they just want to show mobile suits stomping Feddies anyway. This usually seems to be the case even with MS vs MS. Atleast having the Feddies get stomped not always the Zeon-worship. :P The Federation does seem to have some well tra...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

As for the Mongoose, I don't know where MAHQ got that claim. (Like the claim that the Dolos can't deploy its mobile suits fast enough, it strikes me as fanfic invented to flesh out the profile.) Most of the Japanese sources seem to think its main liability was that the 75mm cannon just didn't have ...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

Ground attack in close support is usually done away from the friendly force, unless the friendlies are in a static defensive position that can be clearly delineated. It prevents mistakes in ID that seem obvious from the ground, but not so obvious from the air. So simultaneous attacks air & grou...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

The 08th MS may not have shrugged them off but that really doesn't mean anything when comparing fighter to fighter. I would agree that it's short range is a liability, since that forced them to remain in the Gaws until they got somewhat close to their target which would increase the chances of the G...

Re: Zeon Remnant beam resistance.

Yes beams do vary in strength and yes heavy armor does help but that was only the case with the The-O IIRC. Which had Gundarium armor and lots of it. Much more than Z'Goks and Zogoks had. Weaker beams in the OYW also worked on them AFAIK.

Re: Artillery in One Year War

Ah I see what you mean. To me it looks more like it went through the shield and blew up behind the Gouf. So maybe they have a charge that explodes slightly after penetrating rather than on impact? Provided that isn't a animation error. :P Grenades can be thrown indirectly or directly. Fragmentation ...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

Yeah that's true, I completely forgot the Fly mantas were at Odessa and Jaburo. I always thought the Fly manta was bad. Is that true or was it effective?

Re: Artillery in One Year War

Well going by the hyper bazooka the explosive blast was largely useless against the armor. IIRC there was a Zaku II that Amuro shot the right arm/shield of, and while the shield was gone and the arm was useless the Zaku was still functional. If you know the cannons shells were blocked by the shield ...

Zeon Remnant beam resistance.

In episode 4 of Unicorn I couldn't help but notice that several remnant MS seemed atleast somewhat resistant to beam weapons. The Capule blocked a Nemo's beam saber with it's hand as did the Juaggu. With a GM III's beam javelin then seeming to be slowed by the Juaggu's arm when it cut it off. Later ...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

Yeah I knew the Tincod sucked pretty bad. My posts were really talking about the Saberfish as I always assumed it was their most common fighter on earth. If it is the Fly-manta then I have no idea how it compares to a Dopp.

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

The only aspect that the Dopp is really shown to be superior in is maneuverability. It has less pilot protection, less range, less weapons, worse aerodynamics, and probably lower speed. Now that is very similar, apart from low range and aerodynamics, to the Zero fighter compared to a Hellcat or Cors...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

Wanting to get rid of the A-10 is stupid but I think trying to replace it with the F-35 is even worse as it isn't armed or armored for cas. Sensor wise the Zaku II was one of the worst. Last I checked the Zakus sensors are well under 6000m. They weren't really obsolete, the Feddie aircraft were real...

Re: Jet fighters no more, why stop using them?

Technically they didn't completely get rid off them. There are some in episode 4 of Unicorn. As they are Saberfish, IIRC, most likely they stopped developing new fighters and possibly stopped production of them. They were also likely relegated to rear line or support roles. I really wouldn't say OYW...

Re: Could Zeon have taken Jaburo without the White base?

Were it not for the help of civilians (including children), Operation V would have been greatly delayed, and there might have been no choice but to cancel Operation Star One, the attack on the Zeon space fortresses of Solomon and A Baoa Qu which was scheduled for December of that year. Operation St...

Re: Could Zeon have taken Jaburo without the White base?

Not only the Vinson plan failed to reach its target of 340 ships by almsot one third, but this particular comment indicates disappointment with the fact that many of the ships that do were built were only support ships and small combat vessels, instead of combat crusiers and battleships. And again ...

Re: Could Zeon have taken Jaburo without the White base?

Why are you talking about Garma beating Whitebase? The OP's circumstances are after Garma was killed. So there is no way he could beat Whitebase. If anything the stalemate favored the Feds. The longer a stalemate went on the longer they had to develop and build MS. Zeon could not afford to play the ...

Re: Could Zeon have taken Jaburo without the White base?

I have some concerns about the EF's production capabilities during the war: Atlhough before and after the war, the EF seems to unsurpassed production capabilities, I think these become severly affected after the colony drop, the constant rain of death on Earth's surface from the lunar mass drivers,...
