Re: MS handgun caliber
Well, I'm speaking of rocket assisted ; projectile is fired by liquid propellant, then a rocket motor ignites in it that accelerates it constantly for a faster shot to the target. The rocket motor is usually in the projectile that leaves the barrel anyway, so it could just arm from inertia and igni...

Re: MS handgun caliber
Well I doubt their rocket powered (unless theirs fluff saying that they are?), On the RX-78, the vulcan is liquid explosive powered. thus the rounds does not need shells, they should be just the projectile, and after the projectile fits into the chamber, liquid is filled behind it and ignited. So I...

Re: MS handgun caliber
Right, like I pointed out earlier in the thread - I thought they could be some sort of high-low pressure grenade launcher system. Given the addition of a rocket sustainer I could see them being reasonably effective for low system recoil. Well I doubt their rocket powered (unless theirs fluff saying...

Re: MS handgun caliber
I'm wondering why the muzzle end is so large compared to the cartridges in that picture. Maybe drawing them 20-25mm in scale looked too small to work aesthetically? Could be why the number on paper for the Feddie head vulcans is so inflated. Barrel/Muzzle shroud, though these are ~3 barred rotarys ...

Re: MS handgun caliber
In regards to the size, while this design never had it's vulcan caliber stated, the Blue Destiny Unit 3 seems to have something around 20-25mm rounds for it's vulcan cannons, as seen here . Looks at the 20mm round sitting next to my screen (which is next to a 30mm) and the ammo in the pic, most def...

Re: MS handgun caliber
MythSearcher, as far as I know most weapons use the bullet diameter. Which is what leads the confusion from MS weapons apparently not using bullet diameter. The only weapons I can think of that use bore diameter would be those like tank cannon, as the M1 Abrams uses a 120mm barrel, but the APFSDS p...

Re: MS handgun caliber
Hm, that too! Although if the entire round is 35mm in diameter, then the actual bullet - which is what's normally used as a measurement - should be somewhat smaller. Personally, I'm inclined towards 25 or 30mm because those are the calibers normally given for the Core Fighter's machine guns. All el...

Re: MS handgun caliber
I'd imagine that, for reasons of space-efficiency, MS-sized pistols would employ a wider but shorter round than a full-sized rifle, to reduce the difference in the round's mass. Given that effective range of a projectile is moot in space (infinite until impact or gravity, IIRC) - as are the aerodyn...

Yeah, I'd expect as much. I'll probably have something done in a few days though.

Re: stunning MS and stopping power
I'm sure with chemical weapons you could probably boil the effect down to a clinically accurate analysis, seeing how much force such and such quantity of explosive exerts into the impact surface and so forth. I can see how beam weapons are probably not so easy to deal with, but realistically I don't...

Re: GM Camouf: What's it's Archetype?
The Zudah is thin enough to easily be turned into a GM Camouf because it really doesn't have any armor. I'm fairly certain a Zaku variant with as much armor stripped away would look similar! Given the desperate nature of the GM Camouf, which parallels the Panther tanks used in WW2 that were dressed ...

Re: MS handgun caliber
To give a proper answer, I think it's important to consider why handgun calibers are the way they are. There was a time where handguns were nearly identical in caliber to rifles, notably with muzzle-loading designs in the half-inch range for projectile diameter. Rifle slug diameter decreased when we...

Re: MS-06R-2 and beam weapons
Personally, I think it's just another way of artificially implying an inferior design on the part of the GMs among other factors. Economically speaking, it makes sense to just go with one. Beam sabers are backup weapons in the grand scheme of MS combat, so having one is already a contingency plan. T...

Re: General Fanfiction Discussion 2: Electric Boogaloo
Hiya. New to the site here. In general, are the writers here against fiddling with established canons? Alternate course of events sort of stories, I mean.
