Re: naval combat, mechs and sonar
Just curious, if you are giving out an IFF signal, wouldn't it essentially like broadcasting your existence to the whole world? I have little knowledge in this field, want to learn more about this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_surveillance_radar en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identification_friend...

Re: naval combat, mechs and sonar
Was just thinking that so far we know that minosky particles are supposed to disrupt radar sensors. And it is said that when zeon took over the california base they decided to focus the output of those naval yards into producing submarines, since EFF were so dominate in surface warfare. So, when it...

Re: Best sites to buy Gunpla/MSiA / information
Anyone stateside figure out if its cheaper to order from www.1999.co.jp or HLJ when shipping is factored in or to order from a stateside company? Back when I first got into gundam I always ordered from HLJ and it seemed like it was cheaper, but it has been a long time since I ordered overseas, and m...

How long until models are sold via 3-D printer download?
Seems like these would be pretty easy to make using a 3-D printer. Imagine going on bandai and buying 20 3-D models downloads for the price of say 5 models shipped to you. Taking those on a flash drive down to your 3-d printer shop (or in your own house if you have one) and paying a fee for them to ...

MG transformables....any better these days?
I bought the zeta, zeta plus and Re-GZ back in the day when they were released. Turned out there were poorly balanced, flimsy and were awkward to transform. They are all in peices these days and I can not even get the Zetas back together. Now a lot of their old designs went through an 2.0 upgrade si...

Food and water production for the colonies.
Anyone wonder how the manage to feed those massive colonies of millions of people? I do not believe they are large enough to contain all the farm land needed to go so much food and I have not seen any agrarian green house buildings either. Also I can only assume that they are getting the massive amo...

Re: You know Char's plan in CCA is actually kind of stupid.
Is there a fight between char and Amuro that I missed? Last I saw in zeta gundam they were all pretty chummy with eachother as if they had finally got over lalah. Did they have a falling out in ZZ? You really need to watch Char's Counterattack , like right now. :) I have seen it several times, it s...

Re: Zeon an allegory for japan?
by way of example, look at how the Confederacy in the American Civil War is remembered--yet i don't think anyone would say Tomino based the Zeons on them . True, the confederacy is still an issue with ignorant southerners who like to frame the issue as being about "states rights" and not ...

Re: Benefit/Effectiveness of a 0079 Remake?
Better animation, better dialogue (bandai seems to be doing better with translations these days and making them sensible in english instead of the awkwardness of the original), less 80ish cartoony look. The original is good, but it is certainly dated. I think the whole reason why gundam wing was so ...

Re: zeta gundam and feminism
Let's not forget Henken and how he got himself and his whole crew killed in his attempt to save Emma from Yazan. And when it comes to females making blunders due to their emotions, the only characters who fit that description were Reccoa and Sarah. The others behaved no differently than the men did...

Re: Zeon an allegory for japan?
Look at Uchuu Senkan Yamato. I think Leji Matsumoto tried to recount WW2 with it. But this time the japanese are the good guys. It always suprised me that the crew of the Yamato consisted only of japanese people (okay, Gundam 0079 is also partly guilty of this), but now that I think about it is cle...

I thought they dropped it on the midwest grain supply in america so that the people of earth would be unable to feed their whole population and must instead reside in space.

lack of discipline in the gundam series
one consist theme through all the series is the constant trouble with a ship ful of angsty teens and adults doing whatever they want whenever. On top of that you have unprofessional romances between officers and enlisted, insubordinate attitudes and our right disobedience of order which often cross ...

Dare I post in this time-bomb before the flaming trolls start charging out of their decrepit lurking places? I never saw any feminist overtones and I certainly don't know how you can say that about someone like Emma Sheen. Also, how in the world can you possible even begin to explain Haman Khan? No...

Re: Zeon an allegory for japan?
Sure their are strong links between zeon and the nazis. For instance zeons whole message is that humanity must evolve and become newtypes, and they try to force all of humanity into this through genocide on a massive scale via dropping colonies and asteriods on earth. Zeon was practicing eugenics mu...

zeta gundam and feminism
Rewatching the series you can see there are clear feminist overtones to the series that coincide with the female empowerment movements of the time. However it seems as if zeta gundam does more harm to notion of equality between the sexes with its characterizations of overly emotional female characte...
