Re: TV Tropes lists ZoE's Jehuty as a super prototype, even though it isn't

It's not my intention to be rude when I say this, but that is literally the exact opposite of what you said in your previous reply. Either they are the initial prototypes where none of the systems have been tested in full, or they are final phase prototypes/production verification units that are fu...

Re: The obsoletion of MS-manned gun emplacements

In late UC (UC 120-150s), TMS are not a factor for Federation or League Militare unless the Victory Gundam. Z/ZZ/CCA/Unicorn/Hathaways's Flash sub flight systems are heavily used. But during the UC 120s and onward not anymore. Maybe on Earth during the 120s it might be the case because the Jegans a...

Re: The obsoletion of MS-manned gun emplacements

One little-mentioned piece of mechanics in U.C Gundam that I've always liked is the MS-manned Support Platforms - From the manuever-support like the Dodai and Flying Armor, to gun emplacements like the Burstliner, Skiure, and Mega Rider (which will be the focus of this thread.) It also makes me wan...

Re: TV Tropes lists ZoE's Jehuty as a super prototype, even though it isn't

Two issues with that, one of which I already sort of touched on. The first is that - if you're in the final phase of development and the systems are fully tested - it's not a prototype anymore... it's a trial production or production verification unit. The second is that that's not the scenario we'...

Re: TV Tropes lists ZoE's Jehuty as a super prototype, even though it isn't

But the GM II is barely much of a upgrade from the regular GM, only thing of significance outside of its generator upgrade is the 360 cockpit, and like the Hizack it was a placeholder until more stronger mass production units were made and a way to cheaply upgrade the aging MS in the Federation aft...

Re: TV Tropes lists ZoE's Jehuty as a super prototype, even though it isn't

Speaking as an engineer whose day job is the design, development, and testing of experimental and prototype vehicles for a major multinational automaker, I feel compelled to say that the only part of what you just said that ISN'T the polar opposite of an engineer's ideal prototype development scena...

Re: TV Tropes lists ZoE's Jehuty as a super prototype, even though it isn't

Real life does get surprising close to fictional prototypes if commissioned submarines can count as prototypes as in Project 661 "Anchar" Papa class to Project 705 "Lira" Alfa Class, as the former was too expensive and too fast for its own good. One of a very close examples I can think of is the Ty...

Re: TV Tropes lists ZoE's Jehuty as a super prototype, even though it isn't

Well, what we see in media is more inclining towards the ideally completed prototype. Ideal as in the Engineer's terms, where you have (almost) no limit to your budget and resources, and you can ignore if it can be mass-produced or not (the plan WAS to mass-produce your design, or IS, when you are s...

Re: TV Tropes lists ZoE's Jehuty as a super prototype, even though it isn't

A rather simple explanation will be the definition of "trope". http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Trope It's the way you use it, and super prototypes don't really have to be prototypes, they just have to be somehow different from the mass-production model and better in some sense. Also, if y...

Re: What were the Gundams from Wing, 00, and IBO?

There is a line in Page 94 of IBO Mechanics and World 2 under the "Specialty of the Gundam Frame" section (around the second or third line) that says something like the Gundam Frames were "aircraft that emphasizes on the personality of the pilot, and that each was customized to a mobile body that m...

Re: Applying the five-man band trope in a real robot anime

Click here to understand what the five-man band trope is. You know how the five-man band trope is mostly applied to combining super robot anime? Say that the trope was applied to real robot anime, instead, like what we got out of Gundam Wing, Gundam 00 (if you were to include Sumeragi Lee Noriega a...

Re: Why do people overlook the commanding officer?

Except what Zeonista said is come from context of Nadesico . It's what said in the show, his understanding is irrelevant. IIRC, pretty much the crews of Nadesico are there to "train" Omoikane. Of course, ultimately they have to keep crews on board to deal with something unexpected, but theorically ...

Re: Why do people overlook the commanding officer?

Well, as someone in Martian Successor Nadesico tells its titular cruiser's bubbly-fluffy captain to her face, in modern space warfare a captain isn't really needed anymore. The ships are heavily automated and the crew members know how to use their systems without a lot of direction. So the captain ...

Re: Gundam license plates

Haven't seen them personally, but HK's license plate can only be customized pretty recently(like 10 or so years ago?), and you need to bid for it in an auction after you applied, with the minimum price at HK$20,000 (around US$2560, later reduced to HK$5,000), and GUNDAM along with SN00PY (you cannot...

Re: GN Drive Tau particle colors?

I do seem to recall that the orange GN-Partcles emitted by later GN[T] Drives lack this effect, but I cannot recall a source... MG GN-X manual p.2 lower right section last sentence is your source. The toxicity of the early GN-drive tau is because of the compression rate, later it was improved and n...

Re: What were the Gundams from Wing, 00, and IBO?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the frames of the 5 Gundams in Wing also the same? Or at least it is what they are pushing to retcon in the newer models? It seems like they can simply use each others parts (Like Heero "borrowing" (stole) parts from DeathScythe), locations of parts are pretty much...

By the way: hasn't the whole idea of the MS-06C having NBC protection and using nukes being largely ditched/retconned by now? Using MS Igloo as particular case of an animated works depicting the battle of Loum, it seems that they decided to drop the idea of both sides (or even just Zeon) extensivel...

Re: Movable frame construction material?

I suggest checking this old thread which discussed the evolution of the EF's and Zeon MS construction philosophies: http://www.mechatalk.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=16720 In short, based on a retcon from Sunrise' Mobile Suit Museum it seems that now movable frame is essentially an evolution of Zeon MS...
