also, the weight of paint on something that size must be immense, IIRC, the space shuttle's booster tank used to be painted white, but leaving it the raw orange saved a considerable amount of weight.

Is it ever elaborated how easy it is to convert the Zakus between the various variant types? Like can a small garrison out in the field convert a J-type to a cannon type if they are sent the backpack, cannon, and head (I'm assuming the different head contains targeting equipment for the cannon)?
