Re: What were the Gundams from Wing, 00, and IBO?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the frames of the 5 Gundams in Wing also the same? Only one of them was able to transform, and there were some pretty significant structural differences in the other four... like Heavyarms having rotary cannons in the chest, or Shenlong's extensible arm. It seems ...

Re: What were the Gundams from Wing, 00, and IBO?

Which is weird, because E08 said that the Gundam frames from Iron Blooded Orphans were not custom models. The actual Mobile Suit is basically the frame, in that case... so they're not custom-built Mobile Suits so much as custom sets of armor and equipment bolted to a limited production MS. Also, th...

Re: What were the Gundams from Wing, 00, and IBO?

Then they're limited production models, right? More a set of Ace Custom units off a common frame... the base frame was a limited production frame, but the hardware hung on it was seemingly unique to each unit. And the Gundams from Wing and 00 are limited production models, too. Right? "Limited" in ...

Re: What were the Gundams from Wing, 00, and IBO?

In previous message boards, I've been told that the Operation Meteor and Celestial Being Gundams were not prototype or custom models. Rather, they were just specialized mobile suits that spawned from two different prototypes, including Wing Zero and 0 Gundam, respectively. Is this true? Essentially...

Re: The Macross Valkyrie Thread

Well, I just got my copy of the new Macross Variable Fighter Designer Notes book and there's lots of good stuff in here. For example, Wow, so according to some of the pre-production lineart the VF-25 was going to have the mother of all BFGs. You could blow up space colonies with this thing! Serious...

Re: Propellant: What is in an MS's Tank?

(Still, why are they letting all that heat go to waste? Why doesn't the reactor use thermoelectric converters to supplement its MHD output?) They probably can't. ... that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Everything I can find on the subject of how Mobile Suits convert the energy of the thermon...

Re: 6 Reasons why Starship Troopers is the new Art of War

Apparently the novel is being used as a teaching tool at West Point and similar places. The teaching can be distilled into six main points MAHQ fans might understand. Has been for a good while now, actually... despite many MANY criticisms surrounding the book's rather ugly, fascist worldview. Mind ...

Re: Propellant: What is in an MS's Tank?

I wonder if there would be an issue of a suit overheated to a point where the insulation fails and the hydrogen detonates, i suppose worse things would be happening by that point. Now THAT one I can answer... if the performance of the Zimmad EMS-04 (or EMS-10) Zudah and the RGM-79s in the Mobile Su...

Re: Propellant: What is in an MS's Tank?

Ah, that makes a fair amount of sense... they're monopropellant rockets using heat diverted from the fusion reactor to flash-expand the propellant to provide thrust instead of relying on combustion. (Still, why are they letting all that heat go to waste? Why doesn't the reactor use thermoelectric co...

Re: Propellant: What is in an MS's Tank?

I think i've seen it stated as hydrogen, but that would require cryogenics and isn't very dense. Which would make it awkward to carry an appreciable amount in an MS, [...] They're already carrying cryofuels... the minovsky ultracompact fusion reactor runs on a mixture deuterium and helium-3, and cr...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

I'd wager they were working on it before the announcement since they specified a release date in february. A very safe bet. Odds are they were working on it before the final episode of the series even aired. Also, I wonder if we should make another Delta thread after this one or move to an official...

Re: Why was the Guncannon Detector was made?

From what I can find on the Japanese wikis, the Guncannon Detector seems to have been made to address a need for a long-range fire support MS with high mobility to suit Karaba's guerilla warfare tactics.

Re: The need for prototypes to surpass the mass-production models

Another good example of a prototype that doesn't technically exceed the performance of a production model would be in Nobunaga the Fool . Leonardo da Vinci's Vittoria Absolute Mark Dieci is a prototype, but the actual performance doesn't exceed that of any other giant war armor in the series... thei...

Re: Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross

Southern Cross had no chance of surviving following one of the greatest mecha anime of all time in SDF Macross. [...] Oh, in more ways than one... both MOSPEADA (1983) and Southern Cross (1984) are generally acknowledged as fairly weak attempts to get a piece of the action Macross was enjoying in t...

Re: Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross

Actually, that makes me even more intrigued. I think I'll just dive right in and give Southern Cross a chance. I haven't seen Robotech in a really long time so my memory's hazy about the second season, but I figure I ought to see it's original form, just like I did for SDF MAcross, which I ended up...

Re: The need for prototypes to surpass the mass-production models

So essentially, the Arbalest was more like a custom model than a prototype model. Right? For all practical intents and purposes, yes... parts-wise, apart from all the systems that support lambda driver functionality, it's a Geotron M9 with cosmetic alterations to its composite outer armor. If its d...

Re: Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross

What I'd like to know is whether Southern Cross is worth tracking down the original subbed version. Is it a good enough show on its own, or is the Robotech version a superior story? That's... that's a REALLY tough call. Neither the original version nor the Robotech adaptation could be charitably ca...

Re: The need for prototypes to surpass the mass-production models

So why develop the need to make prototypes surpass mass-production models, when military combat revolves around strategy and teamwork, rather than the one-man army fantasy that super prototypes create in their respective series? Well, from a production (real world) standpoint it gives you an obviou...

Re: Why do people overlook the commanding officer?

So as the title said, why do people overlook the commanding officer as a major factor to real robot battles, and not just the pilots alone? Can't honestly think of a series where they overlook the commanding officers in charge... Like Bright Noa from the Gundam series, or Holland from Eureka Seven....
