Re: Mecha and Mufflers

On the off-chance that doghunter meant some kind of sound suppression system for the wheels as opposed to exhaust, well... same response really: There's no point. Even the smallest mecha I can think of with that kind of propulsion (Armored Troopers) are about four meters tall and weigh six tons or ...

Re: Mecha and Mufflers

For mecha with wheels for long-distance travel, are mufflers are a necessity? Refer to the Gundam Leopard from After War Gundam X and the Knightmare Frames of the Code Geass franchise having wheels for long-distance travel. ... a muffler has nothing whatsoever to do with having wheels. Literally th...

Re: Where will one-off designs end-up?

By Victory Gundam we see old surplus EFSF units used by a Colony Military the Macedonia Army deploys RGM-109M-5 Heavy-Gun units as part of it's forces. http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/v/rgm-109m-5.htm Given the established state of the Earth Federation in Mobile Suit Victory Gundam , that'd tend t...

Re: Where will one-off designs end-up?

Thinking about real-life, I suddenly have this idea: Many armament company actually doesn't produce anything. They just buy old vehicles, guns, etc for the part then sell these to different customers, including armies whose equipment has not changed. So could it be possible that Anaheim Electronic,...

Re: Where will one-off designs end-up?

Well... if AE, SNRI, Zeonic, Zimmad, etc. work anything like an automaker or aircraft design firm, they'd probably reclaim the various one-offs and super-prototypes for a structural and systems analysis once the military was done with them. Any proprietary technology supplied by third parties like t...

Re: Gundam no Reconguista Movies Thread?

... feel like I've been living under a rock. I didn't know they were planning to do one movie, let alone two! (Or are we counting the From the Past to the Future short as one?) I'll consider it a great victory if they tidy up the plot a bit and leave Bellri holding the idiot ball a bit less... on mo...

Re: Pilot curriculum

Amuro hopped on Gundam, and is pretty bad at it. He wasted most of the 60mm vulcan magazine and didn't score a hit, went in for melee and only overwhelmed opponents likely because no body is well trained in MS close combat, much higher spec and with the beam sabre. He only survived his first battle...

Re: Pilot curriculum

I think a lot of the "Gundam hero" criticisms are confusing ability and training, which are different things. Training and enabling the average guy to become a mecha suit pilot is good. Training and enabling the guy with exceptional ability is better! That is the baseline difference between Mecha A...

Re: Pilot curriculum

I must protest. Methinks you doth protest too loudly? (In a strictly friendly-debate sense, naturally...) It's space age, the majority of people in UC lived in space for over half a century, and at least most of the earlier protagonists are pretty familiar with space before they hop onto the pilot ...

Re: Pilot curriculum

And so, what do you think about mecha pilot training? Realistically, how should it happen - For how long, starting from which age, etc. Gundam 's got a bad habit of having technically-proficient teenagers who are either natural pilots or kids who'd been playing with mobile suit simulators (or equiv...

Re: What's the deal with the Turn A's thrust power?

In the later half of the series Turn A pushes back the Willgem, a fairly sizable ship for what it is, that intends to ram through the Turn A. Are there any numbers on the kind of thrust power the Willgem or Turn A were exhibiting? Nothing I can find... it looks like the Willgem doesn't even have a ...

Re: New Macross TV series in 2018

The turnaround is unusually fast... maybe they're going to go ahead with the concept Kawamori initially pitched before the producers decided to make Macross Delta.

Re: OYW MS questions

[...]Every bit of info I get has the Zaku II being an excellent machine and that it is better than a GM. However the stats in the Mecha Profiles section it is the other way around, except for potentially the armor, but almost all later suits go to some version of Gundanium or titanium instead of th...

Re: The strength of Luna Titanium

Don't know if it might be important for the on-going discussion, but supposedly luna titanium can only be produced in zero gravity conditions. Yeah, that seems to be consistent across a fair few Gundam titles... I'm not sure gravity would really have any kind of significant impact on atomic or mole...

Re: The strength of Luna Titanium

No, no, no and nope. The best objective comparative is still in-universe, which is probably the PG manual (words are kinda hard to read on Dalong) It describe the LT as a foam metal and the foam part will be compressed when hit, absorbing the impact and look as if undamaged(but the next hit will be...

The strength of Luna Titanium

Hi folks, I've been poking at a partial translation of Master Archive Mobile Suit: RX-78 Gundam I'm doing for a friend, and one thing continues to nag at me. I can't find any attempt to quantify the strength of the Gundam's most notorious defensive asset... Luna Titanium alloy armor. To the best of ...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Mecha Thread Mk I

Was it just me or was Mirage sitting in Miriya's VF-X-11? And if so that makes no sense, Mirage wasn't even born yet when Max and Miriya were part of the test pilot team that evaluated the VF-X-11. Presumably her VF-9A Cutlass from the early years of the UN Spacy Dancing Skulls special forces team ...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Well, all things considered that does seem plausible, in my opinion. Delta is set in 2067. The original series was set in around 2009 or thereabouts. IIRC Minmay was around 19 at the time, so she would be something like 77 years old as of the time of Delta. However, if you take the time spent in th...
