It's a variant of the 4th Gundam, just like the Perfect Gundam is a variant of the -2.

Back in those days it was a monocoque design using modules for separate body parts/segments. Basically the RX-78's all used slight variations on the same basic monocoque frame concept, but not quite the same one. The Alex's frame was based on the RX-78-4's (with some obvious differences) iirc.

As for me, I've been completely disinterested in Go-Busters ... but totally entranced by Akibaranger .
