Re: The Last Jedi

I am still hyped about this movie, if only to see where it is going in explaining the new Not-A-Jedi order that will surely be created. Luke is now the sensei in Obi-Wan Kenobi's previous role. How and what can he pass on to rey to let her continue her balance. Or maybe, the move to a balance of the...

Re: Why do people overlook the commanding officer?

Well, as someone in Martian Successor Nadesico tells its titular cruiser's bubbly-fluffy captain to her face, in modern space warfare a captain isn't really needed anymore. The ships are heavily automated and the crew members know how to use their systems without a lot of direction. So the captain i...

Re: Made in Abyss

I watched this one, and it was one of the more original anime series of 2017. The character design seemed so out of step with the story, but I got used to it and the design made sense as a counter-image of the exploring children versus their dangerous surroundings inside the Abyss. As a D&D-style ga...

Re: Gundam 0083 Rebellion manga

Yes. Reading something quite literally gave you cancer. I'm glad that the short stint of a minor mecha had that profound of an impact on your life. C'mon Deacon, didn't you know that bad cartoon robot designs can give you cancer? It's just like how bad sequels/adaptations can reach back in time and...

Re: Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross

Actually, that makes me even more intrigued. I think I'll just dive right in and give Southern Cross a chance. I haven't seen Robotech in a really long time so my memory's hazy about the second season, but I figure I ought to see it's original form, just like I did for SDF MAcross, which I ended up...

Re: Best designed warship in UC

The Musai class, of whatever UC story variation. It is a no fuss, no muss, combat space ship. It is laid out in a straight line, every thing in its place with no wasted space, fast & manueverable, great fields of fire for the main armament, and (most of all) the MS can launch without hindrance or ex...

Re: Pilot curriculum

An issue I think is being ignored in this discussion is human adaptation. No surprise, the gearhead element must represent! But I want to address the issue of the human component that this theoretical curriculum is supposedly addressing. Part of this is the anthropomorphic frame, natch. But the key ...

Re: Knight's & Magic

On the fifth episode, ( spoilers ) we finally got mecha versus mecha action, and it kicked much booty. Interesting result, since Ernesti & friends did not completely Save The Day. The clever redhead from the Copper Fangs got away with a prize for her patron. The mission nicely grounded the anime, si...

Re: Knight's & Magic

The show is still holding up, and holding its course. Ernesti should be lucky he has some female friends to look out for his general welfare. :) The weapons upgrades were good, and I think the small armors so armed could do some good in patrols to drive back the monsters and allow for better use of ...

Is it just me are the new mecha created in this episode looks like a Guncannon with those extra arms holding those staffs over the shoulders?
I am certain that is what is intended, albeit in a "weapon arm" extended mount instead of a heavier artillery mount.

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Well, I suppose we are going to have a third set, since nothing was truly resolved. Good high action & drama ending, with Io & Darryl passing in the night (of fire) so to speak. Darryl's relief at escaping a tight fight and successfully evacing his team was offset by that jerkass just passively watc...

Re: Knight's & Magic

Episode 3 was good, sidelining monster hunting for tech building. Ernesti won the trust of a king, got permission to build, and then it turned into a Velocity Channel program. :) Good look at what passes for mecha tech, and a shape of things to come. Also, Helvi-senpai. 8)

Re: Why do the bad guys usually have more different models than the good guys?

I think we are getting off topic here. This is supposed to be a discussion on morphological frequency, not a rehash of quality/quantity. Besides, everybody knows that in question of Zaku versus GM the Kampfer Amazing is #1. :P In addition to the mundane matter like pleasing the sugar daddies at Namc...

This needs to be animated. That's really all I have to say.
Cat-eared girls, cat-eared mecha, BEM opponents, in-joke names galore.... Yes, this must be made into a PC game and/or 12-part anime. Make it so, Commander.

AH. Only twelve episodes? /pouts/
Summer shows tend to be short, so I am presuming they have 12 episodes to cram in as much fun as possible. Certain summer anime have gone on to great things, so you never know!

Re: Knight's & Magic

The best part of Episode 2 though was Ernesti gleefully hijacking & hacking Dietrch's robot to fight the battleship-sized giant monster and find a way to defeat it. (How many mecha games did this guy play in his previous life? ALL OF THEM!! ) The shiny-eyed disregard for Absolutely Destruction...

Re: Knight's & Magic

My work here is done. 8) I do think the main hero's passion is the same as before. To me he has an "awakening" at a pivotal scene and everything returns as part of the moment, so to speak. Having the accumulated life experience as a computer programmer and mecha fan is a big help. Apparently the oth...

Re: Why do the bad guys usually have more different models than the good guys?

The early classic mecha anime like Macross and Gundam were made with rather conventional marketing support. It was still supposedly "kids' stuff" aimed at boys. So there would be a few easily identifiable hero designs, maybe a few more good-guy grunt suits that were sort of like the hero mecha but n...

Re: Megazone 23

The character designs pay great face to the original, no doubt as intended. Komino Masahiko has been in the biz for a while, so he is familiar with classic and current tastes for appealing characters. The #1 characters though, Eve/EVE & the Garland itself, still need to make an appearance though. If...
