Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk IV

The power-fantasy argument doesn't make much sense. Few people able to overlook the child soldiering, sexual abuse, someone in/important to a member of Tekkadan dying every few episodes, space-slavery, warrior-nihilism, and incremental paralysis of the main character throughout the first 38 episodes...

Re: Mecha and Mufflers

Perhaps Leopard could use a muffler as an elaborate and hilariously ineffective means to reduce the noise of the hot gases produced by its weapons.

Other than that, see Kaiba's post.

Re: The Last Jedi

uh, i think you'd better go rewatch the third act of Return of the Jedi there. Luke's not following all the bullet points of Jedi dogma as it's portrayed in the prequels when he defeats the Sith, but he's unquestionably following the Jedi way, and it is by the Jedi way--letting go of his attachment...

Re: The Last Jedi

idk didn't the Jedi defeat the Sith by following those teachings??? Ah, good ol' "might makes right"... And define "defeat". My definition doesn't involve allowing a galactic civilization to descend from flawed-republic to planet-sploding empire for a few decades while your own ranks are reduced to...

Re: The Last Jedi

someone who doesn't follow all the persnickety rules of the Jedi Order when it's at its most indolent and self-absorbed ... is pretty meaningless in an era where the Jedi Order is extinct Probably not so meaningless to Luke, who's likely spent the past few decades being lectured by a host of persni...

Re: What's the deal with the Turn A's thrust power?

What I'm about to post is something akin to apples and oranges, but I don't think it's completely irrelevant. The F-22 Raptor has a total peak power/weight ratio ~52x greater than a Zumwalt -class destroyer, and comes within ~7% of Zumwalt 's total propulsive output. Despite their immediately-obviou...

Re: Pilot curriculum

Well, I don't really find a weapon that aims at a different direction that hard to work with if most of the directions you are moving towards are just empty space. It's actually pretty friggin' hard to make effective use of both your turret and your vehicle without the surprisingly-impactful advant...

Re: Pilot curriculum

I'd say that is at least one of the reason why you need a larger crew for tanks than for figher jets eventhough tanks are cheaper and you really want more of them. A much more relevant reason would be that a tank's main weapon is a cumbersome, generally direct line-of-sight cannon that is often at ...

Re: The Last Jedi

On another bit... it has been made clear to me that JJ apparently did not have any real answers to the mysteries he put into The Force Awakens, and they have convinced me with their evidence that it was merely style and blatant disregard for substance, citing his inclination for spinning mysteries ...

Re: The Last Jedi

so i'm not sure how gray a Jedi Luke can really be. and i'm not sure what it means to be a gray Jedi in the new canon anyway. Probably something about not being a self-righteous emotion-denying angst breeding-ground where rigid doctrine is sacred and consequences are ignored like the actual Jedi or...

I only got closure with Destiny thanks to the SRW games especially Z1. lol
I've never played SRW, but I found closure/catharsis in ATEoGSD.

Sounds about right. So if Snoke is the Char, who/what would be Chewie and Maz?
SpoilerShow
And I guess this means Finn is the Emma.

which is especially ridiculous because we all know Snoke is a Char

think about it
Does he become a protagonist when he wears gigantic sunglasses?

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk IV

the AV equipped Gundams had some great acrobatics in space combat especially with the Barbatos Lupus during the fight against the Dawn Horizon Corps. Rewatched this battle, and it was mostly a disjointed mess in terms of how position and information were conveyed visually. There were some neat few-...

Re: The Last Jedi

I bet they're going to have Leia's screentime, what of it had been filmed, cut down so we never again see her directly. They said they'd finished shooting her scenes before she died. They've also been encouraging speculation that Leia was supposed to die in this movie anyway, so as long as they don...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk IV

The problem is that his character arc is so abrupt that he winds up not being a useful side character from a narrative standpoint. I feel like what you're describing isn't so much a problem specific to Hush and where his character goes, but complications arising from the multitude of issues I descr...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk IV

But that how I feel Honestly, it sounds like you're just self-agitating over the fact that Hush's development played against the shounen-style "Imma be the very best ___ 'cause I'm young and mad at the world" once reality intervened. I would recommend you watch the show for what it actually is rath...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk IV

Reading through my 1800-word (!) post a few days later, it comes across as a bit more negative than I'd really intended. I've always been more comfortable in the realm of criticism than praise, but I'll try to balance the ledger with things that slipped my mind or just got buried by all the other th...
