Re: Just me, or does Gundam 00 still feel the most modern?

I think a lot of it comes down to the nature of the depicted conflict. Many other shows are either diametrical struggles with a third faction maybe popping up later (and these usually loosely follow WWII models) or are more complex but also a lot more fanciful. I suppose Wing doesn't quite fall into...

But why did it take so long to upscale disco guns into MS beam weaponry?

Usually scale development is the other way around.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi

My utter lack of motivation to bother posting my thoughts until now should explain what my opinion of the movie is. As to Areku, the simple explanation is that only something the size of the Raddits (or whatever it's name) can can pull off what we saw. It also DIDN'T go to lightspeed and then ram, ...

Re: The Last Jedi

So are you gonna link to the defense or at least paraphrase it? Because right now what you're saying amounts to "somewhere in the world, there's a way to rationalize it"; that is, nothing. I'm not about to scan through hundreds of topics hoping I stumble upon whatever convinced you about a...

Re: The Last Jedi

The physics break actually makes sense when studiously observing the physics involved. I'm not going to get into the debate over this in detail until Monday, but I'd be interested in seeing this strong argument for it. But I must warn you, however convincing it may've sounded to you, I sincerely do...

Re: The Last Jedi

Gonna wait a few days before elaborating and going into spoilers, but even with intentionally keeping myself unhyped for TLJ, I was still immensely disappointed by the movie, as well as distracted by countless suspension-of-disbelief wrecking balls (usually the "how are so many of the character...

Re: Can Space Colonisation discourage war?

Short answer: no. Longer answer: Regardless of the type of colonization you have in mind, there would still be cost-effective ways to wage interplanetary war, especially if you're game for total war (indiscriminate mass destruction and suppression) rather than "space-D-Day" (such as a logi...

Netflix says Little Witch Academia shows up on June 30th, so I'd expect to see ID-0 show up then or a few days later.

Re: The Official Gundam Twilight AXIS Anime Thread Mk I

Haven't been following this development closely; Youtube recommended a video, I watched it, and I honestly didn't know if it was an "episode" or an awkwardly-silent trailer until it got to "Ep 2 coming in 2 weeks".

Re: Why do MS eyes glow?

Another "~plausible~" explanation is that MS incorporate scintillation detectors in the eyes/sensor clusters and that these occasionally cause the eyes to glow when there's a sudden change in the local radiation levels and/or the sensor recalibrates to its environment, perhaps using a fast...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk IV

The power-fantasy argument doesn't make much sense. Few people able to overlook the child soldiering, sexual abuse, someone in/important to a member of Tekkadan dying every few episodes, space-slavery, warrior-nihilism, and incremental paralysis of the main character throughout the first 38 episodes...

Perhaps Leopard could use a muffler as an elaborate and hilariously ineffective means to reduce the noise of the hot gases produced by its weapons.

Other than that, see Kaiba's post.

Re: The Last Jedi

uh, i think you'd better go rewatch the third act of Return of the Jedi there. Luke's not following all the bullet points of Jedi dogma as it's portrayed in the prequels when he defeats the Sith, but he's unquestionably following the Jedi way, and it is by the Jedi way--letting go of his attachment...

idk didn't the Jedi defeat the Sith by following those teachings??? Ah, good ol' "might makes right"... And define "defeat". My definition doesn't involve allowing a galactic civilization to descend from flawed-republic to planet-sploding empire for a few decades while your own ...

someone who doesn't follow all the persnickety rules of the Jedi Order when it's at its most indolent and self-absorbed ... is pretty meaningless in an era where the Jedi Order is extinct Probably not so meaningless to Luke, who's likely spent the past few decades being lectured by a host of persni...

Re: What's the deal with the Turn A's thrust power?

What I'm about to post is something akin to apples and oranges, but I don't think it's completely irrelevant. The F-22 Raptor has a total peak power/weight ratio ~52x greater than a Zumwalt -class destroyer, and comes within ~7% of Zumwalt 's total propulsive output. Despite their immediately-obviou...

Well, I don't really find a weapon that aims at a different direction that hard to work with if most of the directions you are moving towards are just empty space. It's actually pretty friggin' hard to make effective use of both your turret and your vehicle without the surprisingly-impactful advant...

Re: Pilot curriculum

I'd say that is at least one of the reason why you need a larger crew for tanks than for figher jets eventhough tanks are cheaper and you really want more of them. A much more relevant reason would be that a tank's main weapon is a cumbersome, generally direct line-of-sight cannon that is often at ...
